Need advice about a sick kitten

My daughter got a kitten about 2 months ago and we brought it home. It had a slight cold when we got it and I am thinking alright, I will take it to the vet and get a checkup. Well, vet told me it was just a cold and it should run its course in about a week. Now, two months later it still has this cold. Wheezing, sneezing, not gaining any weight and actually looks like its lost weight but it eats all the time. It can't meow, but it tries.
I just feel sorry for it but I am hesitant about spending another $100 for another vet visit. Husband about had a corinary from that one because he doesn't like cats anyway. Does anyone know how to make a cat cold better?

All I know to tell ya is to just call your vet and tell him what the kitten is doing. But be careful, cause my moms cat and my sisters kitten both had those same symtoms and it was Phemoneoa (SP?) You will probably have to take it to the vet. Maybe see if you have a clinc for animals in your town? '

Hope your kitty feels better soon {{{{{Kitty**********

Your vet is too stupid. If he gave it a shot of penicillin and some meds the cat should be well by now.

If you don't want to pay a lot maybe you can find a country vet. My sister did and he just does what she wants done and doesn't charge a lot. He also tells her what it will cost before he does things. He is also a good vet with her animals and they get well.

Keep the kitten in out of the cold so it has a chance to get well. My cat hasn't been allowed out yet and he is seven months old. He was also sick when I got him. Same symptoms. He may be an indoor cat if I decide that's best. No fleas--etc.

Take the poor thing to a vet again. It should be well by now. Ask what things will cost. My vet has a sign that says to ask about costs. Good luck. Once the kitten is well it should make a wonderful pet for you.

Take that poor kitten to the vet immediately! Colds do not last for two months in humans or in animals unless they're a symptom of something worse. The fact that your kitten's losing weight although eating is very worrisome. Was this kitten a stray? If so, did the vet test for diseases and parasites? If the vet didn't- find a different vet, because that should be the first thing they do.

The vet we take our cat to has signs in the exam rooms that say to ask about fees up front if it's a concern. No decent vet will refuse medical treatment to a sick animal, and should work something out with you if the cost is an issue.

Cat history: We got her from a pet sanctuary thats close to us. She was sick then. All kinds of animals running around the place, no structure or segregation of the animals. They were all running around together. She was also the runt of the liter, strike 2, and I talked to the man who runs the sanctuary and he said that when he receives any animal, especially sick ones he gives them the medication they need. Ok then, why is she not better, I ask. He told me to bring her back and he would give another shot. I did that yesterday. He told me that its possible she has feline lukemia. So, reguardless of hubbys complaining kitty is going to vet again today. I will let you know how it turns out.

First..if it was feline luekemia..it would have died by now...

I own 16 cats...My baby "Rose" has been very sick for 2 weeks..She was also the runt of the litter...I am known at the vets office because I have so many animals...called vet and they put Rose on Clavamox for 10 days..after 10 days she was still snotty faced, sneezing, but she ate and went to the bathroom..it all was respiratory(sp?) I took her in on Monday and to my surprise...my cat has chlamydia ...no not the human chlamydia..here is a link to an article..if it describes what your cat has you may need to ask your vet for some antibiotic ointment to put in her eyes..Rose is on Terak. Just an ointment that is put directly into her eyes...

here is the link..

Good Luck...Hope your furry friend feels better soon.

I admire anyone who tries to help animals but if the man who has the santuary lets all the animals run around infecting each other and breeding he is not helping. He needs to run it like the humane society. Incubate the sick ones and keep the ones who are in heat away from the males so no more kitties that are unwanted.

He needs cages, cages, cages and bedding. Not sure if I would trust his meds. If he is not a vet how does he know what they need?

He may be doing a much needed job but if you see abuses you or someone needs to talk to him. He just may need help from the community.

Oh I forgot. Most people are sick this time of year. We have the hospitals here working overtime with all the people with upper respitory problems. Aminals do catch what we have so it's no wonder kitty is sick. Just get it the help it needs.

I just wanted to tell you, about a year ago
my cat kept sneezing and at times sounded
like she was wheezing and I took her to the
vet., he said that she had a Upper Respiratory
Infection, he gave her a shot and gave us
medicine to give her and it cleared her up.
I think that it cost me around $65.00 if
I my mind serves me right!

It does sound like feline flu...if it is, it is contagious to other cats....we lost 3 stray cats out in the field because of it and had to have a few more of them put to sleep...the rest of our cats got shots...good luck with your kitty!! Hope it gets better!!
