The Wreath
A freind sent me this - I wanted to share with you ...
Merry Christmas !
THE WREATH
Several days before Thanksgiving, a friend called and asked if I was available for a day of shopping, lunch, and visiting. Three of my favorite things, so how could I refuse? We made our plans and met as agreed for a day of fun.
I really had no shopping to do, so I let my friend select the stores we visited. One of the stores she wanted to visit was a major craft supply store -- a place I never go because I just can't do crafts. My grandmother, my parents, friends, everyone has tried over the years to teach me to create with my hands, and I just can't. Trust me, I have tried and tried again. Every few years I would decide I could do something crafty and tried my best but the item just looked
awful.
So here I was wandering through this store just looking at all the Christmas items when I came to a wall of artificial wreaths -- all looked alike and not very interesting. I stopped to look because I needed a new wreath this year but hadn't decided exactly what I wanted. As I looked over the wall of wreaths, one caught my eye. It looked so different from the rest. I moved closer and saw it was made of about 4 different kinds of greenery, had some pinecones that had been sprinkled lightly with silver glitter, and looked like all it needed was a big red bow. It was the only wreath like that so I figured someone had placed it there by accident. But when I checked the price, it was on sale for $9.99. How could I go wrong? Surely even I could add a big red bow to make the wreath look perfect.
I put the wreath in my cart, looked around, and found a couple of stems of miniature silver wrapped packages that were reasonably priced. Then I searched for a bright red Cardinal, but couldn't find one.
My friend and I finished our shopping, had a great lunch, visit, and she headed back home. I went home to dig through my boxes of Christmas decorations for anything that I could add to the wreath.
I found a little sack of decorations of varying kinds -- items saved
from Christmas arrangements and package decorations. I save anything that might possibly be used again and now was glad I had.
I laid the wreath on the floor, straightened up the greenery and started adding things like different kinds of red berries. Then, I found a beautiful red Cardinal that was the perfect size for my wreath. I was feeling so good and things were going so well, it was almost scary. I had added so much I was losing perspective so I hung the wreath on an inside door to add the finishing touches. I was so pleased with the results, but couldn't believe I had created something I would be proud to hang on the outside door.
My wreath looked so good hanging on this white door that I really didn't want to hang it outside, when the time came to decorate for Christmas. Each day I would stop and make some minor adjustment, but mostly I just admired the beauty. I decided not to add a big red bow -- it just didn't need it. I prefer a wreath that reflects the winter season so mine is a Cardinal sitting amongst the greenery and pinecones with plenty of red berries to eat while the snow is on the ground.
I guess this time, when I tried to create something with my hands, it must have been meant to be. All I know is that I have a beautiful wreath hanging on my front door and the sight of it makes me happy each time I come and go.
Maybe that is what creating is all about. -- Jeanne M. Spangler
MY CYBER WREATH
I made a wondrous cyber wreath
It's super-huge and green
I've colored it with screen names
of the friends I've never seen.
It encircles all my online friends
from Chicago to L.A.
It weaves through Boston and New York
and your town along its way.
It expands to Honolulu
and through England it entwines
It's an awesome wreath of netting
that I see when I'm online.
The lights--oh, how they twinkle
on and off both day and night,
And your presence on the internet
helps to make this wondrous sight
So... keep your bright light shining
as Christmas Day draws near
Let's decorate the internet
with PEACE, GOOD WILL, and CHEER.
