Help!!!!! I think my Cats are sick?
My cats, Wolfgang, Sadie, and my kitten Neitzche all have crusty, gummy, yuckies in their eyes and they look awful.......does anyone know what to do for them other than a VERY expensive trip to the vet??
Thank you all in advance.

My only advice would be to go to a reputable pet supply store in your area and ask someone if they know about symptoms like that. In my area the SPCA also offers low cost health care for animals...you might try something like that too.

Zenngrl,
The eye boogers are always normal, but if they look "unnormal" it is a sign of sickness. Are they coughing and sneezing? Also, if you just call and ask tell your vet the symptoms, they should be able to give you a clue as to what it could be. Good luck!

most of the time this is normal if there are no other symptoms. right now is also the time for upper respitory infections in cats not fatal unless untreated symptoms include coughing, sneezing, wheezing, listlessness, and a general unhalthy look. if no other symptoms, what i do is wash their eyes with boiled water (make sure you let it cool before use) and cotton balls i make sure all the gunk is removed several times a day and they usually clear up in about a week. good luck

Just a little addition to what sbernado said.....salene solution is what my vet always said to use to clean eyes.....not too much salt tho or it will burn.

i have used neosporin in my cats eyes , its the same thing as the tiny little tubes of eye ointment the vet would give you , also you can purchase injectable pennicillin from a farm store if the cats are realy sick, i have done this when i couldn't afford a vet, hope this helps.

never use penicillan for a respitory illness it'll drop em faster than anything. if your sure it's not respitory penicillan will work fine if not you can also get amoxacillan from farm store it is ok for use with respitory illnesses. the dosage is only about 1 mm, shot wise. tablets are harder to give to cats and don't work as quickly.i don't mean to rain on anyones parade because pennicillan is good but i've been to vet tech school and seen what penicillan can do if it is respitory. it is a horrible strangling death, just awful, so try to be careful.

My cats and kittens(I have about 15 stray cats at my house)had a cold and their eyes were all matted up and I went to the farm supply and got some amoxicillin pills and neosporin ointment for them...I crush the pills up and mix it with tuna in water...That seems to do the trick!!
Also you might want to give them a vitamin(animal not human)around this time of year especially to keep their immune system up!... Hope this helps
