“No Meat on Mondays in Los Angeles”

I wonder what color the ribbons will be? http://cnsnews.com/news/article/no-m...ys-los-angeles

By Susan Jones November 12, 2012

(CNSNews.com) - The Los Angeles City Council is urging all residents to observe "meatless Mondays" from now on.

A resolution adopted on Oct. 24 reads: "Be it resolved, that the Council of the City of Los Angeles hereby declares all Mondays as 'Meatless Mondays' in support of comprehensive sustainability efforts as well as to further encourage residents to eat a more varied plant-based diet to protect their health and protect animals."

Councilwoman Jan Perry, who introduced the resolution, also wants to ban new fast-food restaurants in South Los Angeles.

"While this is a symbolic gesture, it is asking people to think about the food choices they make. Eating less meat can reverse some of our nation's most common illnesses," press reports quoted Perry as saying.

The resolution makes 15 points in support of meatless Mondays, including U.N. recognition that "livestock are one of the most significant contributors to today's most serious environmental problems."

And if that's not enought, the resolution also mentions the growing obesity epidemic, the importance of reducing "our carbon footprint," health disparities in low-income communities, and animal cruelty.

The resolution plugs a vegetarian diet, noting that a nonprofit group in Los Angeles called Compassion Over Killing "encourages people to choose vegetarian foods as a way to help build a kinder, cleaner, and healthier world, and works with businesses throughout Los Angeles County to ensure vegetarian meals are readily available to consumers."

Los Angeles now becomes the largest city to endorse "meatless Mondays." The Washington, D.C., City Council also has designated "Meat Free Mondays," San Francisco has designated every Monday as "Veg Day," and a number of colleges and public schools also have adopted meatless Monday policies.

Follow the bouncing ball, people. Your health care is now controlled by the federal government. Who worries very deeply and in a compassionate and very very moral way about your diet. And the environment. And what your diet and your weight are doing to that environment. Not to mention what those things are doing to animals bred specifically for food, animals who in many Disney movies are deeply complex creatures with hopes and dreams. Whereas potatoes only seldom are. Therefore, it is only sensible that the government have a say in what it is you put into that body they’re responsible for, in order to protect the earth over which they lord as wise and caring stewards.

After all, “free” health care has to have at least some conditions, right? And John Roberts and 4 liberal SCOTUS Justices ruled that if the government wants to mandate a “you need to eat your broccoli” tax, well, of course that’s consonant with the Constitution’s intent.

I warned you all years ago: at the end of all this is Heavily Encouraged morning calisthenics run by a benevolent police state.

So let me just end with what is quickly becoming a new tag line for this place: what the freak country is this?

Supposedly, it is the dreaded SoCons that want to control people’s lives (that the accusers conflate moral advice with making laws is rarely pointed out)

I’m finding it difficult not to make jokes about meatless Monday in Los Angeles where they voted that porn actors must wear condoms.

    ..

I heard Savanah Guthrie say on The Today Show this morning, and I paraphrase, “this doesn’t make it illegal to eat meat yet,” giggle giggle.”

The operative word being, you guessed it, yet.

    ..

….meatless Monday in Los Angeles where they voted that porn actors must wear condoms.

    - That would be proposition 69, requiring all citixens to cover their meat.

    - Mr. Potato-head was not available for comment,

    ..

If the people can’t afford meat, convince them that meat is a degenerate marker of the bourgeoisie. “Rice, beans and pasta: the Correct Foods for a Productive Proletariat!”

Though they’ll probably update the language a bit.

    ,...

You almost have to admire how they were able to tie together their pet causes of income equality, climate change, obesity epidemic, and animal cruelty into the simple act of eating al random meal containing meat. Blair’s Law in action, baby!

I’m envisioning that the next step will be (because coercive force always follows) leaning on restaurants to not serve meat on Mondays and new “blue laws” prohibiting the sale of meat products in grocery stores on Mondays. Because they care.

    ..

It really is a religon for them…..did they suggest fish?

I wonder if they did at one point consider Fridays and what the subsequent discussions sounded like.

    ..

The government can't get crack junkies to quit crack. They can't get playas to quit beating women. They can't get the breeders of children to marry their sex partners giving the children a name. But they are going to dictate dietary constraints. Time to overthrow the government.

    ..

No meat on Mondays in Los Angeles, as the radical demands of the UN Agenda 21 disciples of sustainability, the RED to the core "Gore green eco-fascists", who won't be happy until we're all herded into cities under force of unjust law so that we may be better controlled, must be met, no questions asked, moreover, no questions allowed.

A look at the litany of "padded cell 'whereas' here shows where the lunatic fringe wants to take us!

These communist types won't stop until they control every aspect of our lives that they're intentionally making miserable while their politiburo lives and eats "High on the HOG" - the modus operandi of the Marxist Socialists worldwide who are owed nothing but our contempt with their dictates immediately put in File 13 where they belong!

    ..

Absolutely agree. For excellent info re: UN Agenda 21go to http://www.democratsagainstgenda21.com/

    ..

Makes sense. They've had brainless weekdays for many years now. Look for new rules prohibiting meat in school cafeterias next. Good to see the sh*tty council is so concerned with important issues like jobs, reduced taxes, illegal immigration, etc.

    ...

When the City Council buys my meal it can choose the menu. So when are EBT cards going to limit purchases by date, so no meat can be bought on a Monday?

Los Angeles City Council endorses 'meatless Mondays'

From the City Council that declared war on trans-fats and fast-food restaurants comes the latest way to make residents feel, well, guilty about what they eat. The Los Angeles council, in a 14-0 vote on Friday, adopted a resolution urging residents to adopt a personal pledge to have a "meatless Monday."

While it does not have the force of law and police will not be checking what you brought to work for lunch, city officials said they hope it will start a trend, make residents healthier and reduce the impact on the environment. "This follows the `good food' agenda we recently adopted supporting local, sustainable food choices," said Councilwoman Jan Perry, who has called for a ban on new fast-food restaurants in South Los Angeles to fight obesity.

"We can reduce saturated fats and reduce the risk of heart disease by 19 percent," Perry said. "While this is a symbolic gesture, it is asking people to think about the food choices they make. Eating less meat can reverse some of our nation's most common illnesses."

Councilman Ed Reyes, who joined with Perry in proposing the resolution, said one of his sons has been diagnosed with diabetes. "The issue is how does a local municipality engage in this and how do we create change," Reyes said. "If we do it one plate at time, one meal, one day, we are ratcheting down the impact on our environment. We start with one day a week and then, who knows, maybe we can change our habits for a lifetime."

The proposal was developed by the Food Policy Council, which has a goal of "creating more and better food jobs" and encouraging food companies and small food enterprises as part of a bigger agenda to encourage healthy foods in the city.

    This scares me…a lot:
    comprehensive sustainability efforts
    .

Expect much mischief to be made in the name of “comprehensive sustainability efforts.” That has a very Orwellian ring to it.

    Soylent Green anyone?

    ....

Comrade, you are not allowed to question the system. Do what they say and all will be well.

    It’s begun.

    ...

I'd go meatless on Mondays for the rest of my life if politicians will agree to get drug tested once a month from the President on down.

    ...

When a governmental body is even thinking about what people eat on Mondays, things have gone a little too far. These guys get almost $180,000 per year, and this is the "product" they produce?

    ..

Okay, I will go veggie on Mondays. But what should I eat the rest of the week? I'm lost. City Council, please send me a menu for the other 6 days, or I may starve. Please tell me also where to shop and how much to buy. If you could send a guide on how to prep the meals that would help too. OMG, I'm so glad you're there.

    ..

Please protect our plants that produce oxygen and reduce our carbon dioxide emissions, eat meat! Don't kill any more plants!

    ..

I am surprised they endorsed this. This would mean all the illegal food trucks and taco carts across the city would have to shut down for the day. What will the poor immigrants do?

    ..

How is it any concern of the city council what people eat on any day of the week? And the council members are not exactly fitness models themselves.
    ..

Now that LA has fixed all the Budget issues, Looming layoffs, Traffic snarls, Homeless areas, Rising crime rate, Immigration issues, and discussing yet another sales tax increase... They can take some time off to "symbolically" advise us what to eat.
