US Attorney Whitaker resigns
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - U.S. Attorney Matthew Whitaker says he has tendered his resignation to President Barack Obama.
In announcing his decision Friday, Whitaker said he will remain in his post until a successor is appointed to head the federal prosecutor's office for the Southern District of Iowa.
Whitaker says being the U.S. attorney is the greatest professional experience and honor of his life. He added he is proud of what the office has accomplished since his appointment in June 2004.
Among the significant cases prosecuted while he headed the office was Operation Wirebreaker, an investigation into the trading of child pornography. He also pointed to the Swift & Co. immigration case in which 30 people were convicted of immigration and identity theft charges.
Whitaker says he will become the partner in a Des Moines law firm when he steps down.
Another one bites the dust.......
