DEERFIELD, ONEIDA COUNTY -- Updated at 9:45pm:
Investigators in Oneida County say a decorated Utica Police Detective stabbed his wife to death and then fatally wounded himself in the couple's home on Cosby Manor Road in Deerfield.
Police say the victim, 38 year old Kristin Longo, was found dead by one of the couple's children who had come home from school. The Longo's have four children between the ages of 9 and 17. The first officers on the scene say they found Kristin Longo dead of a knife wound, then found her husband, Detective Joseph Longo bleeding and in need of emergency medical help. Police confirm he died at St. Elizabeth's Hospital a short while later. The officer who first responded to the scene says Longo admitted to stabbing his wife.
Investigators spent all Monday afternoon and into the late evening at the Longo family home at 10508 Cosby Manor Road, Deerfield.
The couple's children are being cared for by other family members. A knife was recovered from the scene.
