Baby Drowns in Tub; Mom Gets Probation
Baby Drowns in Tub; Mom Gets Probation
Updated: Friday, 25 Sep 2009, 2:02 PM MDT
Published : Friday, 25 Sep 2009, 2:02 PM MDT
Forrest Day, a 16-year-old mother from Avondale was in court for a short time Friday morning for her sentencing.
In February, Day left her 8-month-old son in a bathtub and left the room.
She later pleaded guilty to child abuse in connection with her son's drowning death.
The felony carries a minimum sentence of 2 1/2 years in prison. Day could have received up to seven years behind bars, but a judge ruled she will not get any jail time - only probation.
Day is also pregnant again.

You ppl act like you have made NO mistakes as a parent. Should she have known better? Yes... but ppl walk away to get the phone or check on another screaming child all the time. Accidents DO happen sometimes.

Why ddd she plead to child abuse in his drowning if it was just an accident. I wouldn't say I did it intentionally if I didn't.

Nope, I bring the phone in the bathroom with me. This baby was 8 months old... There is NO excuse for him to be alone for one second....

Not a chance in hell, my two youngest are 4 and almost 3 and I still dont leave them alone in the tub, there is always someone who can get the phone or bring in a toy or sit with them if I need to leave the room, I will not give this girl the benefit of the doubt no way no how. An accident would be tripping and falling with your child NOT letting them drown to pick up the phone

I may have made mistakes parenting, BUT my neither of my children have died from it. My kids are 10 and 13 and I still worry about them everytime they take a shower/bath.
