BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - It took one more night than Tiger fans had hoped for.
But LSU fans gathered in livings rooms, sports bars and, for the lucky ones, Rosenblatt Stadium Wednesday night to watch the Tigers claim the sixth national baseball title in LSU history.
The Tigers clinched the best-of-3 series against the University of Texas Longhorns by a final score of 11-4.
LSU won Monday night's game after eleven innings of play. The Longhorns easily won game two on Tuesday night. But then, the Tigers dominated the final game of the series to take home the title.
The win marked the first national baseball title for LSU under Head Coach Paul Mainieri and the team's first title since the year 2000.
Jared Mitchell was named tournament MVP.
A celebration to welcome the team back to Baton Rouge is scheduled for 4:00pm Thursday at Alex Box stadium. The gates will open at 2:00pm for the free event.

Tiger fever invades Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - All day Tiger fans have been on the prowl for commemorative gear. Not only are they grabbing up everything purple and gold, and baseball related by the hand full, but fans are also comparing what they believe to be the best moments of the game.
It's the talk of the town. The moment Tiger fans everywhere were waiting for.
"Nobody remembers 2nd place, they will remember 1st. So LSU Tigers, coaching, fans, thanks for the memory," says Mike Lee.
With that win, nine years in the making, the fan frenzy is on.
Registers are spitting out receipts as fast as cashiers ring up the goods. Covered in LSU gear, making their way through the shops, purple and gold fans are shelling out the green in their search for the newest Tiger Baseball National Championship shirt.
"Looking for shirts and hat, whatever else i can find. Anything with Tigers on it, I'll buy," says Dave Lankford.
Dan McNamara, with Bayou Apparel, is responsible for printing the sought after shirts. He says after the 7th inning, he hit the start button and the orders keep coming.
"Oh we've got probably about 15 more stops to make then we'll continue through the night and morning," Dan says.
"I have five so far and I'm not finished," says another shopper.
As they load their arms with shirts, they are remembering the highs. "The best part was the 1st homerun that got them started," says Judy Easterly.
And the lows. "Well I was yelling at the TV last night when we were tied four to four...But I would have died last night if we lost."
Last year, these same fans watched the Tigers short stay in Omaha. This year, they say they watched as the true champions were named.
"They showed character, they stuck together, they played as a team and they won it," says Mike Lee.
"Congratulations and you showed real well for the State of Louisiana," says Kim Pilcher.
Dan McNamara says late Wednesday night, he'll have printed 20,000 shirts. And if you're still looking for baseball gear -- Dan will be making runs to Tiger Mania, Athletic Department, Purple and Gold Sports, and Tiger Town in Shreveport.
