Alcoholism is a mental disease.. And there's no such thing as a former alcoholic.

So all former alcholics are mentally ill and cannot be trusted. Then we have trust in many people who shouldn't have it.

I didn't say anything about trust. Mental disease does mean mentally ill to some capacity. I never said they cannot be trusted. I was just pointing that it's a mental illness and there is no such thing as a former alcoholic. You're always going to be an alcoholic battling a mental illness

So recovering alcoholics are mentally deficient? I think everyone suffers from some type of 'mental issues'...not just alcoholics....and they function fine in society and judgment. But if any were 'under the influence' (be it alcohol or meds), I might question their judgments....especially when operating heavy machinery....but possibly writing a letter....?

*sigh...
Yes recovering alcoholics are mentally deficient in some capacity.. Alcoholism is a mental disease....
Anyone with an addiction has a mental illness.
So are people with depression, and anxiety. That's why there is medication for it. That is why there is counseling (AA, NA etc)) or psychiatry that goes along with this stuff..
I never said anything about anyone being trusted.. Like I said (again) I was pointing out that alcoholism IS a mental illness and there is NO such thing as a former alcoholic.

I do understand what you are saying there....but how is it being related to function and the matter at hand? That's where the confusion comes in.
By definition, everyone has 'mental issues' therefore are 'mentally deficient' (granted many different degrees)...how is his and his judgment so far 'off' from the rest of us 'mentally deficients'?
*or were you just 'defining' the 'afflection' without relation to the subject matter? *

Beck did not write the letter, the letter was sent to him by a woman. He just read it on his show.
If we ruled out all those who ever drank to excess or takes meds who would be left? I don't fault those who are on meds, it's the ones who don't get help that are the danger.

No I don't think you do...
I never said anything else on this subject other than try to point out to Janelle that alcoholism is a mental illness and there is no such thing as a former alcoholic..
I do not have an opinion on anything other than pointing that out to her..I did not say jack about his judgment or anything else.I am not arguing Glenn Beck as a person or anything other than what I said.. Hell I am not arguing at all....

Sorry El, didn't want to put words in your mouth. Yes, I am glad you pointed out alcoholism is a never ending disease. Thanks and hugs.

I grew up Mormon, I guess you would diss me also because of my religious affiliation? And your idiotic comments about things you only think you know about.....Why not check out what the 'We surround You" is all about. It's pretty cool actually, there are pictures of me an my family in that mosaic.
