Arizonans see UFO, NASA says it's research balloon

PHOENIX – NASA officials say it wasn't an alien spacecraft people in Arizona and New Mexico spotted floating far above them in the clear blue sky, just a giant research balloon.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says he got calls about the object all afternoon Monday.
Bill Stepp of NASA's Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility in Palestine, Texas, says the mysterious flying orb was a 4,000-pound NASA research balloon used to measure gamma ray emissions.
Stepp says the balloon usually floats at 130,000 feet and can be seen for about 170 miles on a clear day.
Jennifer McCoy, who runs a UFO-themed Store in Sedona with her husband, says it "looked like the gigantic bubble from the Wizard of Oz."

My sister told me my oldest sister saw one thirty years ago. She was going to town when something was flying low over her and ten other cars. They all stopped and got out of their cars. She said it was right over them but it wasn't making engine noises at all. It sat there for about ten minutes then took off really fast. She said she went home but didn't say anything because she didn't want people to think she was crazy. She listened to the news but never heard anything. Shes always wondered if any of the other people reported it. She said with it right over them she could still hear bird sounds because it didn't make any sound. I don't know if its true but thats what my sister said she told her.

I've seen two in my life... one about 6 years ago, and the other about 5 years ago. Both were exactly the same, but, flying in different directions. The second one was mid-day, with a jet crossing right by it... it was at least 10 times longer than the jet, a perfect cylinder, blunt on both ends, and spinning really, REALLY fast. It was shiny silver... my 22 year old nephew saw it too, we both watched it until it was out of sight. The only reason I even saw it was that my nephew was on the roof of the garage cleaning out the gutters for me, and I was looking up, or I never would have saw it.
I don't know what it was... both times, although, on some of the UFO shows, I have seen footage of the exact same 'craft'. I don't believe in 'little green men' or anything, but, something THAT HUGE, it wasn't anything known to me. The 'jet' that was flying near it was a huge passenger jet, larger than military craft, and, if the jet were an 'ant', this thing was a 'whale' ! Not a blimp either, lots of those around here... they are cigar shaped, this was a perfect cylinder."We had to get rid of the kids, the DOG was allergic!"

My sisters a very proud person I don't think she'd make up what she saw. She said she wasn't afraid of it just couldn't believe she was seeing it. She said she still can't believe something that big could have no engine sounds. Be really quiet.

But, I know what I saw, and what my nephew saw.
It takes ya back, it really does.
It had no sound either, but, was WAY high up, I don't know if we would have heard it if it had sound. The first time I saw it, the DH saw it too, around midnight one night. We finally lost it behind some clouds. Although, it 'was' light, it's light didn't shine through the clouds, like the moon sometimes does. It just 'went out', like turning off a light in your house.
There were others that reported it when I saw it the second time... it was on our local news, they said that people had reported it, but, they (the news crew) had no idea what it was, since they had'nt seen it."We had to get rid of the kids, the DOG was allergic!"

I used to live in 29 Palms in CA, which is a HUGE marine base. We were literally about 5 miles from a gate entrance. Anyways, we would see UFOs above the base all the time, and like a previous op said, they were quiet absolutely no sound at all. They could hover before the jets came out to do that, and could travel vertically and horizontally as well as diagonally very quickly

we've all seen ufo's.. lol ufo doesn't mean an alien craft.. it means UNIDENTIFIED flying object... doesn't say anything about alien

The idea that there may be intelligent life out there somewhere is not nearly as frightening as the thought that with the vastness of the galaxy in the incomprehensible immenseness of the universe WE are as smart as it gets. Now THAT'S scary!
