I called my Uncle to ask him about it since he is on the board for Yum brands - he was the one that sent me the link before it the show was even on that day. He said that the problem with the coupons is the same as Quiznos had - that corporate didn't inform a lot of the franchise holders and they don't get reimbursed by corporate unless it is a corporate store. I don't care what BS corporate puts out - they should have told the franchise holders and reimbursed them for the cost of the promotion - labor, food, paper supplies and other items.

THAT'S not right!!! All of the stores around us are francise... I wonder if they know that they won't be reimbursed ????

Not cool at all.

Guess we won't be redeeming ours then -- just out of principle.

OK, I just read somewhere else that if it was a black and white print of this coupon then it is a fake because they can't see the yellow dots in the background of the expiration. I had printed 4 of these as we were allowed, and used the first 2 taking me and my bf to lunch here in town. They had no problems with it. The one in the next town said it was photocopied because it was missing the spots. But I'd estimate 80% of the people in line had theirs printed in black and white, therefore they were exactly like mine, yet they still got their food.

Wow, this is also posted to the KFC website...how could they not anticipate the overwhelming response to FREE CHICKEN ?!

We are so sorry, but due to the overwhelming response to our FREE Kentucky Grilled Chicken™ meal coupon, we can no longer redeem the free coupon at this time. But we will honor our commitment to giving you a free Kentucky Grilled Chicken meal.

Please visit a participating KFC restaurant for a rain check form. Complete the form, attach your original coupon , and give it to the KFC restaurant manager or postmark per the form’s instructions, by May 19, 2009, and we’ll send you a rain check for your free Kentucky Grilled Chicken meal at a later date, plus a free Pepsi with our compliments. Your participating KFC restaurant will provide you with the form you need.

Please note that the redemption periods of the rain checks will vary. All other terms and conditions of the original free Kentucky Grilled Chicken coupon will apply.

Thank you for your understanding,

Roger Eaton
KFC® President

My husband went last night and there was a lot of people there. They were telling everyone they were out of it and that they would give them a rain check. People weren't very happy.

Interesting. This was posted to their website yesterday? We just went and use 2 last night with no problems.

May 7, 2009
AMERICA HAS OVERWHELMING RESPONSE TO KENTUCKY GRILLED CHICKEN™ OFFER; KFC OFFERS APOLOGY AND RAIN CHECKS FOR INCONVENIENCED CUSTOMERS
LOUISVILLE, KY - Following an unprecedented and overwhelming response to a free offer of a Kentucky Grilled Chicken meal, KFC has announced that it can no longer accept the free coupon at this time, but that it will introduce a rain check program to take care of inconvenienced customers.
http://www.kfc.com/about/newsroom/050709.asp

“We would like to apologize to our customers who have been inconvenienced by the overwhelming response to our free Kentucky Grilled Chicken offer,” said Roger Eaton, President of KFC U.S. “The lines of customers wanting to redeem their coupons have been out the door and around the block, so we’re unable to redeem customer coupons at this time.”

The offer, which was featured on “The Oprah Winfrey Show®” on Tuesday, May 5, resulted in millions of coupons being downloaded and lines of customers waiting outside KFC restaurants from coast to coast. While the Kentucky Grilled Chicken introduction was already the largest in KFC history, the overwhelming response of the free meal offer drove restaurant traffic to levels not seen in the brand’s 50-plus year history.

While millions of free meal coupons have already been redeemed over the past three days, customers holding a coupon will now be issued a rain check. Those customers may visit a participating KFC restaurant to receive a rain check form. They will then receive via mail a rain check coupon for the free two pieces of Kentucky Grilled Chicken (manager’s choice), two individual side items and a biscuit. The rain check coupon, which will be redeemable at a later date for a two week period, will also entitle the holder to a free Pepsi to go with the free meal, as a way of apologizing for the inconvenience.

All rain check requests must be accompanied by an original coupon and returned to a participating KFC restaurant or postmarked by May 19, 2009.

“We know that when people taste their free Kentucky Grilled Chicken, they’re going to love it,” Eaton added. “We apologize to those who have been inconvenienced, and we thank them for their understanding and patience.”

This is a FIASCO!

Almost worth boycotting KFC altogether.
