Obama Census Plan: No Illegal Alien Left Behind
This column today spotlights the radical re-shaping of the electoral landscape by the Obama and Company census conspirators. The immediate agenda of the left-wing census volunteer groups: freezing immigration raids. The long-term goal: Exploiting the massive population of illegal aliens to redraw the political map and secure a permanent ruling majority.
As it has been long argued, shamnesty as the letter of the law and shamnesty in spirit endanger us in bottomless ways. The very policies of non-enforcement that are suicide for the Republican Party are the very policies of non-enforcement that led to 9/11 and needless deaths across the country thanks to catch-and-release/sanctuary/the deportation abyss. Yesterday in the House, open-borders activists attacked Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio for his staunch commitment to enforcing immigration laws. Ray Tranchant testified for the minority. I have published his full testimony here and urge you to read it. http://michellemalkin.com/2009/04/03...orders-agenda/
Attention, GOP: Public relations campaigns aren’t going to solve the problem.

Obama Census Plan: No Illegal Alien Left Behind
April 3, 2009 09:41 AM
I have seen the electoral future, and it is rigged. With fraud-prone, ideologically-driven interest groups swarming the census-gathering process, the Left is solidifying its chances of a permanent ruling majority. Lax immigration enforcement is the not-so-secret key to the Democrats’ power grab. And the Obama administration is all too happy to aid and abet.
At a meeting to mobilize volunteer trainees assisting with the decennial national head count, Commerce Secretary Gary Locke encouraged the government’s partners to spread the word that privacy rights of census-takers would not be violated and that accuracy and fairness would be ensured. Locke assured the activists: “We all recognize what is at stake.”
But do you?
The volunteer groups Commerce Secretary Locke is entrusting to protect accuracy and fairness include the race racketeers and voter registration con artists of tax-subsidized ACORN, the amnesty activists of Voto Latino, and the labor mobsters of the SEIU. The fate of $300 billion in federal funding – and, most importantly, the apportionment of Congressional seats – rest in their hands.
As for “privacy rights,” it’s not your privacy rights they care about. It’s the privacy rights of millions of illegal aliens whose advocates have enshrined for them a sacred right never to be questioned about their immigration status. Obama’s census partners are using the process to pressure homeland security agents to halt interior enforcement efforts and workplace raids so that illegal alien cooperation with the national survey is maximized. Inclusion of the massive illegal alien population has resulted in a radical redrawing of the electoral map.
The Census is used to divvy up seats in the House as a proportion of their population based on the head count. More people equals more seats. More illegal immigrants counted equals more power. This is not hypothetical. The Center for Immigration Studies determined that in the 2000 election cycle, the presence of non-citizens (including illegal immigrants, temporary visitors, and green-card holders) caused nine seats in the House to switch hands. As the think tank’s analysis reported: California added six seats it would not have had otherwise. Texas, New York, and Florida each gained a seat. Indiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin each lost a seat. Montana, Kentucky, and Utah each failed to secure a seat they would otherwise have gained.
Translation in plain English: Open borders have profound consequences. And they don’t end with congressional apportionment. The redistribution of power extends to presidential elections because the Electoral College is pegged to the size of congressional delegations.
Under the Carter administration, the men and women who enforce our immigration laws were ordered not to do their jobs during the census count; non-enforcement was the unspoken policy during the Clinton administration in 2000. The policy, in other words, was to put political interests above security interests and leave No Illegal Alien Left Behind. The Obama Department of Homeland Security is already continuing the tradition – reversing the work of investigative agents who have uncovered massive document fraud at illegal alien worksites and cutting immigration and customs enforcement operations at the knees.
During the eight years of the Bush administration, groups such as ACORN received millions of dollars in subsidies for their racial and corporate shakedown activities. The pro-amnesty faction of the GOP pandered to unions such as the SEIU and ethnic lobbying groups such as Voto Latino seeking to boost their membership rolls.
Now, Republicans can only stand by helplessly while the political opponents they helped fund use the census to help wipe them off the electoral map. You reap what you sow.

Taking a stand against the open-borders agenda
April 3, 2009 09:39 AM
The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing yesterday on local enforcement of immigration laws. As the GOP minority pointed out: “Although they’ve given it a creative title, the Democratic majority called this hearing to fulfill its pledge to investigate Sheriff Joe Arpaio. (More on the witch hunt here. http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepu...?%5C&wired ) The move follows a petition drive by ACORN, in which the organization asked for a Justice Department investigation. The Democrats did not invite Arpaio to testify. Instead, their witnesses claim to have had their civil rights violated by Arpaio’s officers or other local law enforcement agencies, or have third-hand knowledge of the alleged abuses.”
Ray Tranchant stood against the amnesty mob to force the Democrats to confront the tragic consequences when local law enforcement does not work with federal authorities.
You may recall two years ago, his daughter and her best friend were killed by an illegal alien drunk driver in the sanctuary city of Virginia Beach. The killer had been arrested twice prior, but local sanctuary laws prevented local officers from reporting the illegal immigrant to federal authorities. The illegal immigrant who hit the girls’ car at 70mph was severely drunk. While the girls were killed instantly, the illegal immigrant walked away from the accident unharmed.
Here is Mr. Tranchant’s full testimony:
Quote:
First I want to thank you distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen for allowing me to share my testimony with you. I am not here personally for sympathy, but may offer a couple of solutions to the Elected Officials from my perspective, a man that for 2 years has intensely studied the problems and consequences of lax and opposing Immigration Laws.
Two years ago this week, my 16-year old daughter, Tessa, and her best friend, Ali, were killed as they were sitting at an intersection waiting for a red light to change. They both had their seatbelts on and were doing nothing wrong.
They were wonderful girls with bright futures.
But their lives ended suddenly and unnecessarily when a drunken illegal immigrant hit them at more than 70 miles an hour. Alfredo Ramos, whose blood alcohol level was almost three times the legal limit, didn’t see the girls’ car or the red light and couldn’t because of his intoxication. The crash killed Tessa and Ali instantly. Alfredo Ramos walked away unhurt.
At first, my focus was on mourning my daughter and her friend. Our community, friends and family stood with us, honoring their memories.
But anger and a feeling of betrayal took over when I discovered at the trial that Alfredo Ramos could have been — should have been — deported long before he ran that light. In fact, this accident wasn’t the first time that Alfredo Ramos walked away from a drunken incident. It wasn’t even the second time.
Alfredo Ramos had been arrested twice before — for driving under the influence (DUI) and public intoxication. He had a fake driver’s license from Florida and could not speak English.
But because of Sanctuary policies in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake, Virginia, nobody – not the judge in a prior DUI case or the police who arrested him in the prior incidents – questioned him about his immigration status. Instead of being deported to his home country, he stayed on the streets of Virginia Beach to drink, drive, and take two innocent lives in a way that displayed a wonton disrespect for the laws of our land.
He seemed invisible to the system. I’m not sure if your American kids or relatives would have had the same opportunity to fail. They probably would have been incarcerated, legitimate license suspended, insurance payments would go through the roof, and they would have had to pay large attorney’s fees. Ramos pays nothing, has no driver’s training, no insurance, no lawyer, no license, and now the American People have to spend approximately $30,000/ year for 40 years ($1,200,000) to rehabilitate - then deport him. The Taxpayers have to pay for it!
The deaths garnered local and national media attention: The Virginia Pilot, The Washington Post, The American Chronicle, MSNBC, CNN, Fox News, and many others wrote and talked about Tessa and Ali.
Their stories shed light on the tragic consequences of lax immigration policies.
Gladly, some important things have changed in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake in the last two years. Virginia Beach now requires that police check the immigration status of all arrested. Virginia Beach and Chesapeake passed measures requiring that companies doing business with the cities pledge not to hire illegal immigrants. Last July, a statewide law took effect which requires local jails to contact federal authorities to check the immigration status of all foreign-born inmates, irrespective of whether they are in the country legally. And, local police officers are working more closely with federal authorities than ever before.
But a threat remains!
Despite recommendations from the state’s Attorney General and the Virginia State Crime Commission, Virginia’s Governor has yet to ask federal authorities for a 287 (g) agreement; and ICE may not have the resources to support such a request. The 287(g) program would allow the state to enter into an agreement with the federal government so that state law enforcement officers can assist in the investigation, apprehension and detention of illegal immigrants. Opponents of 287(g) cite a supposed “chilling effect” on cooperation between immigrant communities and police, the cost of the program, or the potential for racial profiling as reasons to reject it.
As I testify here today, I expect to hear many of these arguments.
While I sympathize with those arguments, I am not compelled. I know about chilling experiences. They happen on the average of twice a month with Illegal Immigrants in America, transparent criminals in a broken system that lets them kill or injure honest citizens.
A family should not have to mourn the death of a loved one just because of an unrelated policy or the political correctness of not offending or inconveniencing a few people. This prevents us from making our communities safer, a Constitutional right to all citizens of the United States.
Newsweek columnist Robert J. Samuelson recently wrote:
“We face a choice between a society where people accept modest sacrifices for a common good or a more contentious society where a group selfishly protect their own benefit.”
I believe this to be true.

Arpaio allies outraged by feds' actions
by JJ Hensley - Mar. 12, 2009 12:00 AM
The Arizona Republic
She was fighting mad.
The woman had seen enough of people speaking out against Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's enforcement of immigration laws.
So, despite the presence of nearly 50 protesters and a phalanx of media outside the Sheriff's Office on Wednesday morning in downtown Phoenix, she made her way to the front of the scrum and let loose.
"He's the only one who upholds the law. . . . If you don't believe in the law, change it," said the woman, who was on her way to court and who would identify herself only as "a U.S. citizen."
Arpaio's supporters, from politicians to police officers to members of the public, were defending their sheriff, one day after the U.S. Department of Justice announced it was launching an investigation into allegations that sheriff's deputies rely on racial profiling to root illegal immigrants out of the Valley. On Wednesday, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, D-Mich., also announced he would hold hearings into the complaints against the sheriff.
Arpaio's critics say the problems are with deputies unlawfully detaining U.S. citizens, not with the practice of handing over illegal immigrants for deportation.
"Up until this investigation, who was holding Arpaio accountable? Nobody," said Randy Parraz, an organizer with the Maricopa Citizens for Safety and Accountability.
Sen. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, predicted nothing will come out the Justice investigation, in part because Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials reviewed and approved Arpaio's use of the program that trains deputies to enforce immigration law.
The entire affair, Pearce said, is politically motivated.
"It stinks from high heaven," Pearce said. "This is outrageous conduct on the part of the federal government. They're violating their own laws. When you impede the enforcement of their own laws, it's a violation of their own laws."
Even those who question Arpaio's tactics were hard pressed to disagree with the notion that politics are playing a role.
Thomas Attwell, a Mesa resident, said that Arpaio played the politics card first and that his opponents are responding in kind.
"It means the Democrats are running Washington," Attwell said. "Isn't Arpaio the one who made it political? It's not like he went about his job quietly."
The way Arpaio goes about his work has won plenty of support in Maricopa County, where voters elected the sheriff to his fifth consecutive term in November by a wide margin.
The sheriff's efforts against illegal immigration are working, said Mark Spencer, a Phoenix police officer and Arpaio supporter who is president of a group that has pushed Phoenix police to adopt policies similar to Arpaio's.
"We do pro-active enforcement in all sorts of areas, whether they're narcotics or prostitution," Spencer said. "Just as important are maintaining and protecting a person's civil rights. If there are valid complaints that a department and/or an officer are violating a person's civil rights, I think that warrants attention to make sure that type of conduct ceases."
Arpaio has promised to not change his tactics, no matter who is calling for inquiries or conducting an investigation, a prospect that leaves critics with the prospect of learning to live with his brand of enforcement.
Donovan Morgan, who moved to Maricopa County from Gary, Ind., in the past year, said police there use "gang ordinances" to detain people who dress a certain way.
"You see a certain demographic and you pretty much go after them a certain way," said Morgan, 23. "They pull you over in Gary for wearing your hat cocked."

Vitter's census idea refused by Senate
Posted by Gerard Shields | Capitol News Bureau
Novemeber 5, 2009
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Senate voted Thursday afternoon to block an amendment by Republican U.S. Sen. David Vitter that would have required that next year’s census to identify non-citizens in their nationwide count.
The 60-39 vote was along party lines with all Democrats supporting an effort to put aside the Vitter amendment and all Republicans present backing the Louisiana senator. Democratic U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu voted for cutting off debate on a spending bill that Vitter wanted to amend. The Landrieu vote helped provide the Democrats with the two-thirds needed to effectively kill Vitter’s measure.
Vitter reasoned that by counting non-citizens, states like California and Texas would benefit from their high immigrant populations for congressional representation. States like Louisiana would lose clout through the elimination of a House seat, he said.
Landrieu called the requirement unconstitutional and would have cost the federal government $1 billion to implement while derailing next year’s count.
