I don't see the harm in a phone. But a phone is not a necessity IMO.
I think a lot of this is because there was a generation of people who where 'spoiled'....things were 'given' to them by hard working people (usually their parents)....therefore, the 'thinking' is that there are some things that are 'basic needs' which should be a 'right' and expected for all without putting in an effort to earn or achieve these things for themselves....... We create our own monsters....

I see it with my own children.....they don't know how good they have it but think they are 'deprived' and 'deserve' 'it'..(whatever 'it' may be at the time).....

I think pretty much the 'only' thing that is a 'right' for all to have is 'opportunity'.....

I almost totally agree but I think this whole country has a smug sense of 'entitlement' .

I'm not opposed to giving them a phone and a place to stay to help someone find a job. I'm not at all opposed to helping people out when they are having a tough time.

But it seems no matter how much you do, it's never enough. My friend came over yesterday and she was so mad because someone she knows is about to lose their house. And the reason is because they can't get a job? NO. The reason is that they REFUSE to work for less than 14.00 per hour. HUH?

It comes down to this, if you'd rather refuse a job than to keep your house, so be it. This is America and this country offers that choice if that's the one you want to make. Myself, I'd take the 12.00 per hour job to pay the bills for a while and hope to find a better job in the future.

Sometimes, it's all about choices.

That is basically what I meant in my statment as well. I don't see the harm in them having a cell phone. HOWEVER if you are homeless I would think you should worry about other priorites. And the problem is so many in American don't.

I was just telling me Dh this tonight. How I think its pathetic that Obama wants to help these people save them with their mortgages when alot of them either took out bad mortgages, mortgages they could NOT afford, or would NOT give up things (like cable/internet and other non necessities) so that they may be able to afford to pay their mortgages.
Everyone thinks they should be able to have everything NOW. Why do you think so many of those pay weekly stores are in business?
