Man charged in wife's slaying
Tragedy marks city's second domestic slaying in 2 weeks
By MARK HICKS • The Leaf-Chronicle • March 8, 2009
Clarksville police on Saturday night charged a 28-year-old Clarksville man in the slaying of his wife.
Khaleefa Lambert, who gave a 231 Pin Oak Drive Apt. D address, was charged with first-degree murder. He is being held without bond at Montgomery County Jail.
His 18-year-old wife, Ashley Cecelia Barnes-Lambert, was found dead in his 2007 Mercury Mariner when a state trooper stopped it on Interstate 24 on Saturday.
It is the second domestic-related slaying in Clarksville in little more than two weeks. The bodies of a 30-year-old mother and her two children were found inside their North Clarksville residence on Feb. 19. Her ex-boyfriend has been charged in the homicide.
Police say Lambert told them Saturday morning he waited outside the Microtel Inn where his wife had been staying. When she came out, he approached her, and he admitted he "hurt her with a knife" before putting her into the vehicle he was driving.
Police spokesman Jim Knoll would not elaborate on the relationship between the couple.
"He went to the motel and did what he did, that's all we are putting out right now," he said.
At approximately 10 a.m. Saturday, Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Krystal Mathis was parked on the interstate's eastbound shoulder beneath the Exit 1 overpass when the Mercury SUV nearly struck her patrol car.
Mathis pulled over the vehicle and found Lambert crying with a towel wrapped around his hand, according to a news release. He told the trooper "he didn't mean to hurt her."
Mathis then saw Ashley Lambert, who was a member of the U.S. Army, in the back floor of the Mariner.
Detective Alan Charvis is continuing the investigation.

Yeah when you stab someone you're not trying to hurt them.

Yeah, he was probably just trying to talk some sense into her.
He's a waste of oxygen.

You know I don't advocate violence but if I had a boyfriend or husband that was stalking and trying to kill me. I'd have to get a gun and shoot first. No one should be hunted down like an animal and killed. They said she was military. She should have put that training into action. I would before I let someone kill me. I can understand if they don't give you any warning just walk up and kill you but if they're threatening to do it. I'd be ready for them when they tried to get close to me. If I go to prison then so be it but at least I don't have to live in fear of my life or my families.
