Palin's E-mail Account Hacked, Posted Online
Web Site Posts Screen Grabs Of Governor's Contacts

POSTED: 5:26 pm EDT September 17, 2008
UPDATED: 6:04 pm EDT September 17, 2008

Hackers broke into the Yahoo! e-mail account that Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin used for official business as Alaska's governor, revealing as evidence a few inconsequential personal messages she has received since Sen. John McCain selected her as his running mate.

McCain campaign manager Rick Davis issued the following statement concerning reports about Gov. Palin's e-mail: "This is a shocking invasion of the Governor's privacy and a violation of law. The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these emails will destroy them. We will have no further comment."

The disclosure Wednesday raises new questions about the propriety of the Palin administration's use of nongovernment e-mail accounts to conduct state business. The practice was revealed months ago -- prior to Palin's selection as a vice presidential candidate -- after political critics obtained internal e-mails documenting the practice by some aides.

Quote:
Gawker.com posted family photos and alleged e-mail exchanges the Alaska governor had with colleagues. Gawker claims the e-mail account has since been shut down, but it will leave the images up on its site for all to see.

On its site Gawker offers up screenshots of the e-mails and says "they were saved before the account went dark, along with the contact list. It's newsworthy and we will not be taking it down!"
**THIS IS JUST WRONG!!! Shut down the website and prosecute the owners for illegally obtaining stolen property, and malicious use of stolen property**

One person whose e-mail to Palin apparently was among those disclosed, Amy B. McCorkell, declined to discuss her correspondence. "I do not know anything about it," McCorkell said. "I'm not giving you any comment." Wired.com said McCorkell later confirmed that she did send the e-mail to Palin.

Another of the e-mails apparently revealed Wednesday was an exchange in July with Alaska Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell discussing a talk show host who had been critical of Parnell. Parnell declined to discuss the matter.

Palin herself used "gov.sarah" in her e-mail address, and her husband used "fek9wnr" in his address. "Fe" is the representation for iron, and "k9" is an abbreviation for canine. Todd Palin was the winner of the grueling Iron Dog snowmobile race, and "fek9wnr" also is Todd Palin's vehicle license tag in Alaska.

It wasn't immediately clear how hackers broke into Palin's Yahoo! account, but it would have been possible to trick the service into revealing her password knowing personal details about Palin that include her birthdate and ZIP code. A hacker also might have sent a forged e-mail to her account tricking her into revealing her own password.

Yahoo accounts aren't that hard to hack.

To me it wouldn't matter if it was Obama or McCain or Biden that this happened to...

I still say shut down the website now holding hostage the emails, all the personal photos, EVERYONE'S EMAIL ADDRESSES (that they have publicly posted) and prosecute the schit out of them.

How is what Gawker is doing now any different than anyone of us posting someone else's information on the net? It's the same -- STALKING.

That was a business account. Let's hope she has her personal email somewhere other than yahoo.

actually I went over there to look -- it has all her personal emails, between family members and friends ... not really mixed with "business" type stuff...and all her pictures ... plus it has all her email contacts.

Just call them the Associated (With Hackers) Press.

http://michellemalkin.com/2008/09/18...-palins-fault/

A reader e-mailed AP reporter Ted Bridis yesterday after Bridis’s article on the Palin e-mail hacking disclosed that the AP was refusing to cooperate with the feds and suggested that Palin was to blame for the crime.

Bridis’s report states: “The Secret Service contacted The Associated Press on Wednesday and asked for copies of the leaked e-mails, which circulated widely on the Internet. The AP did not comply. The disclosure Wednesday raises new questions about the propriety of the Palin administration’s use of nongovernment e-mail accounts to conduct state business. The practice was revealed months ago — prior to Palin’s selection as a vice presidential candidate — after political critics obtained internal e-mails documenting the practice by some aides…”

Here’s the e-mail exchange:

Hi,

You think that this story “raises questions” about *her* use of her own email? Questions from whom? You?

This isn’t really the point of the story. It appears that you are using the theft of the mail to put forth your own anit-Palin feelings. It’s a trend.

Perhaps you should tell us what happened, and not try to give us your opinion on what questions it raises. Alright?

Did the AP steal the mail? “Questions have been raised about whether the Associated Press stole Gov. Palin’s private email…”
And here’s the response my reader received from Bridis:

Quote:
From: “Bridis, Ted” TBridis@ap.org

Subject: RE: Palin’s email theft

If Gov. Palin hadn’t been using a consumer-level Yahoo! account (more than one, actually) this crime wouldn’t have happened because the hacker exploited the service’s “forgot-my-password” mechanism, which is inherently insecure.

Previously disclosed e-mails indicate her administration embraced Yahoo! Accounts, among other reasons, because of questions over whether personal e-mail accounts are covered under Alaska’s Open Records Act. Palin’s critics in Alaska were poring over records they had obtained from the governor’s office of official internal e-mail communications and causing political hay.

The issues are inextricably linked.

The AP publicized Palin’s other personal e-mail accounts, as well as her husband’s, which were derived from information obtained illegally by the hacker. Bridis says having Yahoo accounts is an open invitation for hackers and that the victims are to blame for invasions of privacy.

By refusing to cooperate with the federal investigation into the hacking crime and publicizing the Palins’ other personal Yahoo e-mail account information, the AP openly invited hackers to break into those family accounts as well and endorsed illicit activity to raid private family photos.

The issues are inextricably linked, to borrow a phrase, and raise questions about the propriety of AP’s continued flacking for Barack Obama under the guise of objective journalism.

What complete BS!!!

The hacker wanted her personal emails to find something embarassing. He wasn’t looking for the offical stuff. The crime happened because she was a candidate not because she used it for work-related emails.

If the victim hadn’t been wearing a skin-tight blouse, this crime wouldn’t have happened because the rapist exploited the blouse’s “zipper feature” which is inherently insecure.”

Got it, the victim is at fault.

Ya gotta love the liberal excuse on this: “She was dressed like she wanted it.” Isn’t that like saying that if a carjacking victim hadn’t had a car, they wouldn’t have gotten carjacked?
