Long life of Indonesia's penis growing grandma ends

JAKARTA (AFP) - An elderly Indonesian woman famed nationwide for supernatural skills in lengthening penises has died, reports said Thursday.

Reclusive Mak Erot, famed for penis extension treatment incorporating traditional herbs and Islamic prayer, died last week in Caringin village on the western coast of Java island, the Kompas daily's website reported.

Mak Erot -- who reports aged anywhere from 101 to over 130 -- prompted legions of imitations of her famous clinics, many using her famously craggy and birthmarked face to lure in anxious men.

While her legacy has been closely guarded by male descendents intent on maintaining the purity of the treatment, Mak Erot has become a pop-culture icon in everything from advertisements to teenage romantic comedy films.

Reports of he death prompted a flurry of bemused online comments from Internet users in the world's largest Muslim-majority country.

User "Jengkol" wrote on news website Detikcom: "Oh no, I didn't have the chance to go to Mak Erot and now she's dead. I'll just have to buy a vacuum. Maybe that could be the solution to my problem."

Ex-lawmaker in bribery scandal poses nude

BOGOTA (Reuters) - A disgraced ex-lawmaker who threw Colombian politics into turmoil by saying President Alvaro Uribe's re-election was tainted by corruption added body to the scandal on Tuesday by appearing naked on the cover of a magazine.

Yidis Medina was found guilty last month of taking illegal favors from government officials in return for voting for the constitutional amendment that permitted the 2006 re-election.

Monthly men's magazine SoHo showed a curvaceous Medina posing nude while in jail, her hands covering her breasts in one shot as she looks peacefully into the distance. The 12-page photo spread is titled "Body of Crime."

In the accompanying interview, Medina doesn't explain why she posed for the magazine but says she is ready to leave politics behind. "What I want is to get out of political life, which has brought me so many unwelcome things," she said.

Medina was sentenced to nearly four years of house arrest but will remain in prison while she is investigated as part of a separate kidnapping case.

She says she went public with her tale of corruption after the government failed to deliver favors -- including being able to name her friends to local commissions in her home province -- that it had promised in exchange for her vote.

The case ignited a political firestorm in which Uribe angrily called for a rerun of the 2006 vote.

Stripper arrested for subway pole dances

SANTIAGO (Reuters) - A stripper who danced on the poles of Santiago subway trains to challenge the prudishness of Chilean society was arrested on Thursday during one of her lightning performances.

Monserrat Morilles, 26, surprised subway riders all week stripping to skimpy underwear, but she refused tips. She said she was protesting a lack of tolerance in Chile, one of Latin America's most conservative societies where the first generation since the Pinochet dictatorship is reaching adulthood.

"This is just a beginning. We are starting an idea here that will grow and be developed further," she told Reuters as police and subway guards surrounded her.

The professional pole dancer worked quickly all week to avoid arrest, getting on at one station, finding a subway car with no children on it and stripping in time to exit at the next station.

Chilean media dubbed her "La Diosa del Metro" or Subway Goddess. She called her performances "happy minutes."

"Chile is still a pretty timid country," said her manager Gustavo Pradenas. "People aren't very extroverted and we want to take aim at that and make Chile a happier country."

Roller girls give chase in Louisiana version of "running of the bulls"

NEW ORLEANS - It's the running of the bulls, New Orleans style.

Hundreds of men, women and children, most in white with red scarves around their waists and red bandannas around their necks, gathered outside a French Quarter bar Saturday morning to be chased down Bourbon Street by members of New Orleans' roller derby league. "Roller skates and a stampede through the Quarter — what could possibly go wrong?" said accountant Jason Medonia.

The run, in its second year, featured 33 roller girls in horned helmets from teams with names like Confederacy of Punches and Crescent Wenches.

A few minutes after the runners started, the skaters whacked their plastic bats on the street and took off. Behind them putted Elvis impersonators on motorized scooters.

It all started last year when a friend of organizer Mickey Hanning dressed as a Spanish bull runner for Mardi Gras. Hanning thought it would be fun to get some friends together and have their wives and girlfriends chase them.

Another friend's girlfriend suggested bringing in the roller girls, and a new tradition was born.

This year's crowd included Russ Schlievert, who came from Montana to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina and loved New Orleans so much he and his wife retired here.

He will miss the annual "Running of the Sheep," an event he organized in 1989 in Reed Point, Mont., but said he was impressed with Saturday's event. "I was surprised at the turnout," he said. "I was surprised that everybody dressed. But this is New Orleans."

Women arrested in sex competition

ATHENS (Reuters) - Nine British women were facing prostitution charges after being arrested at the weekend for taking part in an oral sex competition in the Greek holiday island of Zakynthos, police said on Monday.

Six British and six Greek men, including two bar owners, were also charged in the incident, which took place at Laganas beach in the south of the Ionian island, which lies off the west coast of mainland Greece, police said.

The women, who came to the popular resort on holiday, had been paid to take part in the competition, which was video recorded and was to be posted on the Internet, police said.

The men were charged with encouraging obscene behavior.

In recent years, Laganas has established itself as one of Greece's most popular destinations for twenty-something holidaymakers and is known for its wild party scene.

Around 15 million people -- a fifth of them British -- visit the eastern Mediterranean country each year, drawn by its soaring summer temperatures, azure waters and sandy beaches.
