Obama says kids won't be doing any more interviews
Obama says kids won't be doing any more interviews Wed Jul 9, 2:57 PM ET
WASHINGTON - Don't expect to see more of Barack Obama's young daughters on television any time soon.
The Democratic presidential candidate and his wife, Michelle, allowed the syndicated program "Access Hollywood" to interview their daughters, Malia and Sasha, as Malia celebrated her 10th birthday. The four-part interview began airing Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Obama said he had second thoughts after seeing how much attention the interview had received. The Obamas had been keeping Malia and 7-year-old Sasha out of the media spotlight.
"It was an exception, it was Malia's birthday, we were in Montana, everybody was having a good time," he told "Good Morning America" on ABC. "I think we got carried away a little bit. Generally what makes them so charming is the fact that they're not spending a lot of time worrying about TV cameras or politics and we want to keep it that way."
Asked if he regretted the interview, Obama said: "A little bit of pause, Michelle and I, particularly given the way it sort of went around the cable stations. I don't think it's healthy and it's something that we'll be avoiding in the future."
In the "Access Hollywood" interview, Malia said she sometimes finds her father embarrassing, such as when he shook a friend's hand instead of waving to her or saying hi. Asked what makes their parents angry, Sasha said whining and Malia cited arguing with each other.

On one hand - as a one time thing it is not a big deal - but I agree, the kids are too young to be subjected to this type of media pressure.
On the other hand... having seen how the media pounces on the least little thing the parents do... and it being "Access Hollywood" ... I don't see how they could have expected anything different.
Saw a piece of the interview ... the kids are too cute. Every 10 year old finds her parents "embarrassing" and ALL parents dislike their kids whining and fighting with each other . LOL

Its always nice to see and hear from the children of the candidates a little bit, especially when so young. I do hope they are shielded from most of the "crap" that happens with it.

Obama daughters keep hectic schedules of their own
By WILL LESTER, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - The rules in the Obama household for Malia and Sasha are clear-cut:
_ "No whining, arguing or annoying teasing," their mother, Michelle Obama, told People Magazine.
_ Make the bed. "Doesn't have to look good, just throw the sheet over it," said the mother of 10-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha.
_ Set your own alarm clock. "They get themselves up, get their own clothes," said their grandmother Marian Robinson.
_ And the allowance from Dad for doing chores is $1 a week. Barack Obama conceded that "I'm out of town for weeks at a time, so Malia will say, 'Hey you owe me for 10 weeks.'"
The likely Democratic presidential nominee and his wife are determined that his bid not disrupt the normal, happy childhood of their daughters, who would be two of the youngest residents of the White House in 30 years if Obama wins. Amy Carter was 9 when she moved in the White House in 1977.
Malia and Sasha visited the White House in 2005 and were bored until President Bush's dog Barney showed up and they romped with him on the South Lawn, Michelle Obama said.
While the candidate is on the road, the Obama girls keep a hectic schedule: soccer, dance and drama for Malia, gymnastics and tap for Sasha, piano and tennis for both. Michelle Obama tries to fit in three 90-minute workouts each week and hits the campaign trail two or three days a week — a role that has brought criticism from political opponents.
"When some folks were attacking Michelle, Malia just asked, 'What was that all about?' and we talked it through," Barack Obama said, adding that it was fortunate that "she's completely confident about her mommy's wonderfulness."
"They have a wonderful life in Chicago," Barack Obama said. "So I'm sure there's a part of them that won't be heartbroken if things don't work out."
The Obamas rarely allow their daughters to be interviewed. After the television show "Access Hollywood" aired a report on the Obama children earlier this month, their father expressed regret for having agreed to it. "I don't think it's healthy and it's something that we'll be avoiding in the future," he later said.
The cover story appears in People Magazine's latest issue, on newsstands Friday.

Leave Obama’s kids alone
…except when POTUS & FLOTUS need them for Obamacare
Many times over the last two years, Barack Obama has admonished the press to keep his daughters out off their radar screens — only to parade them in front of Hollywood gossip cameras http://www.accesshollywood.com/previ...article_10226? and People magazine photogs http://www.people.com/people/article...214569,00.html http://www.people.com/people/article...261257,00.html when it suited them.
Just a few weeks ago, the White House wagged its finger at the media to stay away from Sasha and Malia because they are “not public figures.” http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2009/08...ia_and_sa.html
But last week, both POTUS and FLOTUS shoved daughter Sasha into the limelight to sell Obamacare.
JWF notes the contradiction in tale-telling — POTUS said baby Sasha was diagnosed with meningitis, FLOTUS says she was not: http://jammiewearingfool.blogspot.co...ing-truth.html
Quote:
Who are we to believe? I know the Obamas detest our medical profession, but can they please provide us with the medical diagnosis so we can sort out the truth? I know, I know, this is racist for me to ask, but since this was only seven or eight years ago, I’m sure these records are still on file, so we ask the Obamas to please provide the public with the medical records so we can get to the bottom of this mystery. It’s pretty simple. Your daughter either was diagnosed with meningitis or she wasn’t. If she was, one of you are lying. If she wasn’t, one of you are lying.
Please clear this up for us. No doubt on one of the five news shows Barack is appearing on Sunday someone will ask for a clarification, right?

None did.
And don’t count on David Letterman http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/21/bu...rman.html?_r=1 to ask when Obama visits for an interview tonight on his increasingly politicized late night talk show (take a look at my recap of Letterman’s whitewash of John Holdren for a reminder http://michellemalkin.com/category/czars/john-holdren/ ).
Mr. and Mrs. Obama: Take your own advice. Fight your own health care takeover battles — and leave your kids alone!

President who sealed college transcripts blabs about daughter’s test scores
November 5, 2009 09:44 AM
Compare and contrast:
September 2008… http://www.nysun.com/new-york/obamas...mystery/85015/
Quote:
Senator Obama’s life story, from his humble roots, to his rise to Harvard Law School, to his passion as a community organizer in Chicago, has been at the center of his presidential campaign. But one chapter of the tale remains a blank — his education at Columbia College, a place he rarely speaks about and where few people seem to remember him.
Contributing to the mystery is the fact that nobody knows just how well Mr. Obama, unlike Senator McCain and most other major candidates for the past two elections, performed as a student.
The Obama campaign has refused to release his college transcript, despite an academic career that led him to Harvard Law School and, later, to a lecturing position at the University of Chicago. The shroud surrounding his experience at Columbia contrasts with that of other major party nominees since 2000, all whom have eventually released information about their college performance or seen it leaked to the public.

Today… http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2...ching-example/
Quote:
Obama Uses Malia’s Test Scores as a Teaching Example
President Obama marked the first anniversary of his election on Wednesday by calling on states to toughen their education standards – and wound up calling on parents to toughen theirs, too, as he confessed that his 11-year-old daughter, Malia, recently got a 73 on her science test.
(Note to parents: In Malia’s defense, the story has a happy ending: she studied hard and came home on Tuesday with a grade of 95.)
… Then, to a chorus of oooohs from the crowd, he said that Malia, a sixth-grader at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, had come home with a 73 on her science test not long ago. He recounted how, a few years ago, she had come home with a grade in the 80s, believing that she had ‘’done pretty well.’’ He and his wife corrected her, telling her that their goal was “90 percent and up.’’
“So here’s the interesting thing: she started internalizing that,’’ the president said, adding that when she came home with a 73 on the science test ‘’she was depressed.’’ He asked her what happened, and she said the study guide didn’t match up with the test. So she vowed to study harder.
“So she came home yesterday, she got a 95,’’ Mr. Obama said. “But here’ the point: She said, ‘You know , I just like having knowledge.’’
