Snopes lists this as Obama's Fifty Lies with mixed results

Obama's Not Exactlys:

1.) Selma Got Me Born - NOT EXACTLY, your parents felt safe enough to have you in 1961 - Selma had no effect on your birth, as Selma was in 1965. (Google 'Obama Selma' for his full March 4, 2007 speech and articles about its various untruths.)
This one is included in a seperate listing : http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/saywhat.asp

Quote:
2.) Father Was A Goat Herder - NOT EXACTLY, he was a privileged, well educated youth, who went on to work with the Kenyan Government.
This is listed as "inconclusive" with a longer article attached : see snopes.

[quote]3.) Father Was A Proud Freedom Fighter - NOT EXACTLY, he was part of one of the most corrupt and violent governments Kenya has ever had.
Quote:

Quote:
4.) My Family Has Strong Ties To African Freedom - NOT EXACTLY, your cousin Raila Odinga has created mass violence in attempting to overturn a legitimate election in 2007, in Kenya. It is the first widespread violence in decades. The current government is pro-American but Odinga wants to overthrow it and establish Muslim Sharia law. Your half-brother, Abongo Oba ma, is Odinga's follower. You interrupted your New Hampshire campaigning to speak to Odinga on the phone. Check out the following link for verification of that....and for more

Obama's cousin Odinga in Kenya ran for president and tried to get Sharia
Muslim law in place there. When Oding a lost the elections, his followers have burned Christians' homes and then burned men, women and children alive in a Christian church where they took shelter.. Obama SUPPORTED his cousin before the election process here started. Google Obama and Odinga and see what you get. No one wants to know the truth.
No one can seem to find the truth about the "cousin" and his half brother is discussed here : http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/kenya.asp
There are different and indeed conflicting information given.

Quote:
5.) My Grandmother Has Always Been A Christian - NOT EXACTLY, she does her daily Salat prayers at 5 am according to her own interviews. Not to mention, Christianity wouldn't allow her to have been one of 14 wives to 1 man.
The article points the reader in the direction of his maternal grandmother : and does not address his paternal grandmother, who is Muslim. http://www.usatoday.com/news/politic...agrandma_N.htm

6.) My Name is African Swahili - NOT EXACTLY, your name is Arabic and 'Baraka' (from which Barack came) means 'blessed' in that language. Hussein is also Arabic and so is Obama.Barack Hussein Obama is not half black. If elected, he would be the first Arab-American President, not the first black President. Barack Hussein Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother's side and 43.75% Arabic and 6.25% African Negro from his father's side. While Barack Hussein Obama's father was from Kenya, his father's family was mainly Arabs.. Barack Hussein Obama's father was only 12.5% African Negro and 87.5% Arab (his father's birth certificate even states he's Arab, not African Negro). From....and for more....go to.....http://www.arcadeathome.com/newsboy.....25%25_African
See snopes .... too long to post here.

[quote]7.) I Never Practiced Islam - NOT EXACTLY, you practiced it daily at school, where you were registered as a Muslim and kept that faith for 31 years, until your wife made you change, so you could run for office.4-3-08 Article 'Obama was 'quite religious in Islam'' http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=60559
[quote]

Topic covered elsewhere : http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp

Quote:
8.) My School In Indonesia Was Christian - NOT EXACTLY, you were registered as Muslim there and got in trouble in Koranic Studies for making faces (check your own book).February 28, 2008. Kristoff from the New York Times a year ago: Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it'll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as 'one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.' This is just one example of what Pamela is talking about when she says 'Obama's narrative is being altered, enhanced and manipulated to whitewash troubling facts.'
Obama attended two schools in Indonesia, one public which included Islmaic instruction and one Catholic. So it ould be more accurate to say "ONE of the schools I attended in Indonesia was Christian."

Quote:
9.) I Was Fluent In Indonesian - NOT EXACTLY, not one teacher says you could speak the language.
See snopes .... they found it "Inconclusive"

Quote:
10.) Because I Lived In Indonesia, I Have More Foreign Experience - NOT EXACTLY, you were there from the ages of 6 to 10, and couldn't even speak the language. What did you learn, how to study the Koran and watch cartoons?

Inconclusive .... go read the snopes article.... too long to post here

Okay -- I did the first ten ... someone else do the next ....

Has anyone else noticed Obama has started to wear an American flag pin on his lapel ? When did this start ? Wasn't that a pet peeve of his - "faked patriotism" ? I might not agree with his position on the matter, but I respected the fact that he was willing to stick to his ideals ....

Obama "puzzled" by Iraq comment frenzy
By John Whitesides, Political Correspondent
Sat Jul 5, 6:19 PM ET

ST. LOUIS (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said on Saturday his plan to end the Iraq war was unchanged and he was puzzled by the sharp reaction to his statement this week that he might "refine" his timetable for withdrawing U.S. combat troops.

"For me to say that I'm going to refine my policies I don't think in any way is inconsistent with prior statements and doesn't change my strategic view that this war has to end and that I'm going to end it as president," Obama told reporters on his campaign plane.

Obama, who based his drive to capture the Democratic nomination on his early and ardent opposition to the war, said earlier this week he might alter his plan to bring combat troops home within 16 months of taking office if conditions on the ground changed.

The comment drew heavy coverage and sharp criticism from some on the left and the right, with Republicans saying it showed he was vacillating on Iraq. "I was a little puzzled by the frenzy that I set off with what I thought was a pretty innocuous statement," he said on a flight from Montana to St. Louis. "I am absolutely committed to ending the war. I will call my joint chiefs of staff in and give them a new assignment and that is to end the war."

Obama will face Republican John McCain, a staunch advocate of the war, in a November presidential race that is certain to focus heavily on the future of U.S. troops in Iraq. "What's really puzzling is that Barack Obama still doesn't understand that his words matter," said McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds.

Obama said he did not make a mistake with his earlier choice of words in describing his Iraq position -- even though he called a second news conference a few hours after his initial comments to clarify his stance.

He laid the blame with reporters. "I'm surprised at how finely calibrated every single word was measured. I wasn't saying anything I hadn't said before, that I didn't say a year ago or when I was a United States senator," said Obama, who is still a senator from Illinois.

'VERY CONSISTENT'

"If you look at our position, it's been very consistent," he said. "I am unwavering in the belief that this has been a strategic mistake and that this war has to end. It would be a further strategic mistake for us to continue with an open-ended occupation of the sort that John McCain has promised."

Obama said his willingness to consider changing conditions on the ground and the potential ramifications of the pull-out plan was a strength -- and a sharp contrast to Republican President George W. Bush's stay-the-course strategy in Iraq. "The tactics of how we ensure our troops are safe as we pull out, how we execute the withdrawal -- those are things that are all based on facts and conditions," he said.

"I'm not somebody who, like George Bush, is willing to ignore facts on the basis of my preconceived notions. I want to pay attention to what is happening on the ground."

Under heavy pressure from McCain, who criticized his failure to visit Iraq since 2006, Obama plans to travel to Iraq and Afghanistan. The dates have not been announced for security reasons but the trip is expected within the next month.

While Obama would not admit a mistake in describing his views on Iraq, he said he had plenty of room for improvement as a presidential candidate. "One of the things I've always tried to do is learn from mistakes and try to get better," he said. "There is a learning curve and growth being a presidential candidate. I think I'm a much better candidate now than I was six months ago or 12 months ago. I think I'll be a better communicator and even more effective six months from now."

11.) I Am Stronger On Foreign Affairs - LIAR, except for Africa (surprise)
and the Middle East (bigger surprise), you have never been anywhere else
on the planet and thus have NO experience with our closest allies. You
seek to disarm America while our avowed enemy, Iran, will not subject
itself to a nuclear ban. Top Hamas politica l adviser Ahmed Yousef said
the Hamas terrorist group 'supports Obama's foreign policy vision'.
<BR><BR>
12.) I Blame My Early Drug Use On Ethnic Confusion - LIAR, you were quite
content in high school to be Barry Obama, no mention of Kenya and no
mention of struggle to identify - your classmates said you were just fine.

13.) An Ebony Article Moved Me To Run For Office - LIAR, Ebony has yet to

saying, live on TV, that you would not have enough experience by then, and
you are all about having experience first.
<BR><BR>
16.) Present Votes Are Common In Illinois - LIAR, they are common for YOU,
but not many others have 130 NO VOTES.
<BR><BR>
17.) Oops, I Misvoted - LIAR, only when caught by church groups and
Democrats, did you beg to change your misvote.

<BR><BR>
19.) I Was A Constitutional Lawyer - LIAR, you were a senior lecturer ON

<BR><BR>
21.) The Ethics Bill Was Hard To Pass - LIAR, it took just 14 days from
start to finish.
<BR><BR>
22.) I Wrote A Tough Nuclear Bill - LIAR, your bill was rejected by your
own party for its pandering and lack of all regulation - mainly because of
your Nuclear Donor, Exelon, from which David Axelrod came.
<BR><BR>
23.) I Have Released My State Records - LIAR, as of March, 2008, state
bills you sponsored or voted for have yet to be released, exposing all the
special interests pork hidden within.
<BR><BR>
24.) I Took On The Asbestos Altgeld Gardens Mess - LIAR, you were part of
a large group of people who remedied Altgeld Gardens. You failed to
mention anyone else but yourself, in your books.
<BR><BR>
25.) My Economics Bill Will Help America - LIAR, your 111 economic
policies were just combined into a proposal which lost 99-0, and even YOU
voted against your own bill.
<BR><BR>
26.) I Have Been A Bold Leader In Illinois - LIAR, even your own
supporters claim to have not seen BOLD action on your part.
<BR><BR>
27.) I Passed 26 Of My Own Bills In One Year - LIAR, they were not YOUR

to assist you in a future bid for higher office.
<BR><BR>
28.) No One Contacted Canada About NAFTA - LIAR, the Candian Government
issued the names and a memo of the conversation your campaign had with
them.
<BR><BR>

29.) I Am Tough On Terrorism - LIAR, you missed the Iran Resolution vote
on terrorism and your good friend Ali Abunimah supports the destruction of
Israel. You state you will open friendly communication with the Leader

But if he runs on HIS ideals he won't win. Image over substance is what it takes now to win.

And if wearing an American pin is faked to him I wonder why it would be faked. Most Americans are proud to wear an American pin anytime. You don't say you are against the current administration by being against America totally, just the administration. He doesn't get this?

I think his point was - and a valid one - was he did not wear an American flag pin prior to 9-11 and he did not start wearing one after just because it was suddenly the "in thing" to do.

I see his point. Like the New Orleans Saints... for years they were so bad that the joke went that first prize for a radio contest was two season tickets for the Saints; second prize was FOUR season ticket. People used to wear paper bags over their heads when attending games ( seriously. ) Then the suddenly had a great season ( same year as the NFL Strike ... ) and suddenly - EVERYBODY is a Saints. NOW it is the "In Thing". ( Not me - I am still a Steelers fan )

If you are not doing something because it is in your heart - because you feel strongly about it - but only because it is the "In Thing" the fashionable thing... then it is faked. How many people had to go purchase an American flag after 9-11 because they didn't own one ? How many are still flying them outside their homes, on their cars ? How many flew them until they got faded or tattered then took them down without bothering to replace them ? THAT is "faked patriotism" ... and I really respected his position because of that.

I just do not understand why he wasn't wearing one before 9/11. And yes I would support the nation in times of trouble. They did in WWII. People got out and did whatever they had to do to help the country.

Back then Hollywood was on the side of flag waving, now they aren't. They make movies against the country. Whatever sells but it also sells us down the river at the same time.

NY election mix-up: 'Osama' on the ballot
By RICHARD RICHTMYER, Associated Press Writer
59 minutes ago

TROY, N.Y. - Who is running for president? In an upstate New York county, hundreds of voters have been sent absentee ballots in which they could vote for "Barack Osama."

The absentee ballots sent to voters in Rensselaer County identified the two presidential candidates as "Barack Osama" and "John McCain." In the United States, the best-known individual named Osama is Osama bin Laden, leader of the al Qaida terrorist group behind the 2001 attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center in New York City.

The typographical terror error was first reported by the Times Union of Albany.

The elections office faxed a statement in which the two commissioners, Democrat Edward McDonough and Republican Larry Bugbee, said they regret the error but never acknowledge what the error was.

"It's human error, it's very unfortunate, it's an embarrassment to our office, obviously," McDonough said in a later phone interview. "We wish we could turn back the clock, but we can't."

When they discovered the mistake, officials shredded the remaining "Osama" ballots and mailed correct versions to the roughly 300 people who had already received them. McDonough said the "Osama" mistake was made in only one of the 13 ballot versions mailed throughout the county, located east of the state capital of Albany.

Voters who received both versions will be allowed to send in either one and have it counted, McDonough said.

Obama spokesman Blake Zeff said the campaign is "glad officials are working to correct this error and we assume it won't happen again."

AP Writer Devlin Barrett in Washington contributed to this report.
