Obama Could Debunk Some Rumors By Releasing His Birth Certificate.

Having done some Obama-rumor debunking that got praise from Daily Kos (a sign of the apocalypse, no doubt), perhaps the Obama campaign could return the favor and help debunk a bunch of others with a simple step: Could they release a copy of his birth certificate?

Reporters have asked for it and been denied, and the state of Hawaii does not make such records public.

The campaign cited the birth certificate in their “Fact Check” on William Ayers, so presumably, someone in the campaign has access to it. (Apparently the lack of birth certificate, which would state the time of birth on August 4, is driving the astrologers nuts, as they need his birth time to calculate… whatever it is they calculate.)

There are several (unlikely) rumors circulating regarding Obama’s birth certificate.

Rumor one: Obama was born in Kenya. Rather unlikely, as it would require everyone in his family to lie about this in every interview and discussion with those outside the family since young Obama appeared on the scene. However, if it were true, it would probably raise a major question of “does he qualify as a natural-born citizen”? If Obama were born outside the United States, one could argue that he would not meet the legal definition of natural-born citizen under because U.S. law at the time of his birth required his natural-born parent (his mother) to have resided in the United States for “ten years, at least five of which had to be after the age of 16.”

Ann Dunham was 18 when Obama was born – so she wouldn’t have met the requirement of five years after the age of 16.

(Interestingly, apparently there isn’t much paperwork on Obama’s parents’ marriage. Obama: From Promise to Power, page. 27: “Obama later confessed that he never searched for the government documents on the marriage, although Madelyn (Obama’s maternal grandmother) insisted they were legally married.” Also note that Obama’s father apparently was not legally divorced from his first wife back in Kenya at the time, a point of contention that ultimately led to their separation.)

Rumor Two: Obama’s middle name is not “Hussein” but “Muhammad.”
As Politifact notes, all available public records going back to 1991 refer to the candidate as “Barack H. Obama.”

It is theoretically possible, if not plausible, that Obama changed his name at some earlier point in his life, as he was sorting out his issues of culture and identity. But this would mean that Obama recognized how emotionally-charged the name “Muhammad” would become in American life long before the 9/11 attacks. And if you’re going to change your middle name from that of the central figure in Islam because you fear controversy, picking the last name of the highest-profile anti-American dictator in the Middle East (Saddam) doesn’t seem like a huge improvement.

Rumor Three: His mother did not want to name him after his father, and his birth certificate says “Barry.” Perhaps the most plausible of the rumors, as Obama was known by that name through much of his childhood and young adulthood. If true, this would spur a new round of “When Barry Became Barack” stories – a minor headache for the campaign, but hardly a major scandal.

If the concern of the Obama campaign is that the certificate includes his Social Security number or some other data that could be useful to identity thieves, that information could easily be blocked out and the rest released. (Although I wonder if identity thieves would find Obama a tougher than usual target, since using the name on purchases would almost inevitably bring closer scrutiny.)

Lest the Obama campaign start whining about this issue being an unfair “distraction,” John McCain underwent intense scrutiny of his citizenship status because of his birth in the Panama Canal zone, leading the Senate to declare him a natural-born citizen in April.

I haven't found a whole lot about him talking about his white grandparents...

Throw Grandma Under the Bus

Quote:
Yet Obama cravenly compared Wright's racist invective to his actual grandmother, who "once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe."

Rev. Wright accuses white people of inventing AIDS to kill black men, but Obama's grandmother -- who raised him, cooked his food, tucked him in at night, and paid for his clothes and books and private school -- has expressed the same feelings about passing black men on the street that Jesse Jackson has.

Unlike his "old uncle" -- who is not his uncle -- Obama had no excuses for his grandmother. Obama's grandmother never felt the lash of discrimination! Crazy grandma doesn't get the same pass as the crazy uncle; she's white. Denounce the racist!

I found an article talking about his "poor grandmother in Kenya" -- who isn't all that "poor". You'd think if it was all that bad for her - with the income he and Michelle are pulling down, he would help the poor woman out .... I'll look for that tommorrow.... past my bedtime :nitenite:

Honestly, what kind of people start these ridiculous rumors? This kind of hate-mongering is evil. I believe you know a person by his or control voters' minds by starting these kind of lies!
I have a question, I have not read all things posted, there is alot to read but had a quick question, if he was raised by white woman and is not a racist why does all that come out of his mouth how proud he would be to become the first "black" president! why isn't he saying he would be proud to be the 1st byracial president? just a thought!

IMO he identifies more with the black community. I was listening to a talk show and they pointed out how MSN and the other news are fixated on his being black when he is bi-racial really. I don't see him correcting them.

Rumor 4: He is not only not an American citizen but he isn't even an Earthling. He was born on the planet Marklar.

Rumor 5: His real name isn't Barak, it's Susie May and he is, in fact, a white woman from Kansas.

Rumor 6: His father wasn't his real father and he is actually Dick Cheney's love child.

Last I heard in this country if you have ANY minority in you, you are required to take that stance.
So he's getting blasted for what every other partially minority person does, will do, has done, all of that.

No one is REQUIRED to take a stance on any race. Anytime the "race" question is asked there are numerous answers, including "other" and "prefer not to answer".

So, I would think that if a person was biracial then they could choose "other" or they could choose whichever particular half they relate more with. Or like some, pick the answer that would serve them best as a minority. My son is half hispanic, he either does not answer the question or he puts caucasion. This is because being raised my me, he relates better with his "white" side than his latin.

Well excuse. Maybe "require" is the wrong word.

How about this "If you take your minority side and thrust it out there for all to know you'll get better and preferential treatment". How bout that?

I could care less if the man wants to call himself polka dot. The race issue is not a deciding factor for me and for many. If he wants to be black, so be it if he relates better to that side of his ethinticity. The deciding factor for me is the man is a racist and you can claim all you want that he isn't. You cannot be affiliated with a person such as his pastor and church for that number of years and NOT know they are a racist. And if you go to a church where the pastor is spewing hate, wouldn't you leave unless you agreed with it?

There is also the fact that Mrs. Obama hates this country. The only thing she can find to be proud of is the fact that her husband has become the Dem nominee? We aren't perfect but there are plenty of good things about this country.

And, let us not forget the most important factor. Experience, he doesn't have any.

I see so many biracial couples anymore with their children. What kind of influence does he have on these kids? They are only to connect with their black side? Ignore the white side? I don't think most biracial parents want that for their child. I'm sure they want equality. I thought he was going to bring equality to the campaign.
