Very Sad!!

I will start this post by saying the following:

Around Christmas 2007, my dh, daughter and I went to Toledo, and we went to Sofo's meat market (DBD should know where I am talking about.)

We were coming out of the store, and towards our car with a cart full of stuff (easy to do here!!)...and this guy NOT LOOKING WHERE THE HELL HE WAS GOING, just started backing up his car!!

He rolled OVER my basket and we are banging on his back window to stop!
He gets out...AND DOESN'T PUT HIS CAR IN PARK!!! IT KEEPS ROLLING BACKWARDS!!!

OMG, my DH lost it!

The dude was in his 80's, and didn't want to "wait for the cops" to show up, but we got our van and parked him in so he couldn't leave, and I filed a police report against him.

We went to court and he was charged with negligent something or another and his license was revoked! (GOOD!!).

**********so now comes this tragic story******************

Mother Struck, Killed In Parking Lot

POSTED: 6:08 pm EDT March 18, 2008
UPDATED: 7:07 pm EDT March 18, 2008
STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. -- A routine trip to the grocery store ended with the bizarre death of a mother of three.

Roxanne Mouat, 36, of Sterling Heights, was killed when a driver struck her in the parking lot of a Sterling Heights grocery store located at 17 Mile and Dequindre roads.

"When she (the driver) backed up fast, she hit her," said Omar Schamon, who witnessed the accident. "She stepped on the gas in reverse and took her (Mouat) across the parking lot."

According to Schamon, who works at the grocery store, the driver hit Mouat twice but she was able to move her son and daughter out of harm's way.

"He was just saying mommy, mommy, mommy," Schamon recalled. "I just couldn't take it. He was crying. A little daughter was crying."

The children, identified as 13-year-old Sarah and 10-year-old Nicholas, were walking just a few feet behind Mouat at the time of the crash.

"The lady would have gotten the kids and the mother if the mother hadn't pushed them out of the way, Schamon said.

The driver has been identified as a 69-year-old woman from Berkley. Police said it is still unclear if the driver will face charges.

As the investigation continues, Mouat's father said the family is just trying to make sense of the tragedy.

"It's all gone now. She's in a better place," said Mouat's father, Daniel Winiemko. "Nothing I can say anymore. It just hurts. It just hurts."

*************************

I say if you are old enough to drive and you hurt or kill someone, you BETTER face charges!

omg so sad..we had an older man pull out in front of us and I hit the brakes and how I didnt hit him god only knows but I probably would of killed him..We had to sit there and get our **** together for a few min and he just drove off...He was probably in his early 80s...I believe they need to start pulling the DL when they get at a certain age...Seniors are very dangerous out there....

It should be MANDATORY that drivers 65 and older get not only a written test, but an actual driving test every year!

So sad.... So tragic & just to think it could have easily been prevented!

"Police said it is still unclear if the driver will face charges."

WHAT? Unclear? She should get vehicular homocide or manslaughter...that
makes no sense to me at all.

The lady we bought our house from 3 years ago still drives, she is 92 years old and seems as sane as you and me. It all depends on the person.
