From the Desk of Governor Jan Brewer

I’m appalled to learn the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has begun to release hundreds of illegal aliens from custody, the first of potentially thousands to soon be freed under the guise of federal budget cuts. This is pure political posturing and the height of absurdity given that the releases are being granted before the federal ‘sequestration’ cuts have even gone into effect.

This represents a return to exactly the kind of catch-and-release procedures that have long made a mockery of our country’s immigration system. The news is especially concerning when coupled with DHS’ acknowledgment today that it may not be able to maintain operation of 34,000 immigration jail beds, as mandated by Congress.

Everyone knows the federal government must get a handle on spending, and it is well past time that the President begin working with Congress to find real budget solutions. But we cannot let public safety and the rule of law be collateral damage of the President’s failed leadership to pass a budget.

Big Sis Napolitano releases “low-priority” illegal aliens.
NYTimes finds out what “low priority” means …

    [Darleen Click]

Californians are familiar with the “punish the proletariat” tactics of politicians who, when told “no” to their addiction to free tax money start cutting where it will directly hurt voters — e.g. teachers, road repair — rather than their crony bureaucracies.

So promises Obama if he doesn’t get another round of tax increases (after getting what he wanted 8 weeks ago). For example, warnings have gone out to 238 airports about possible tower closures. http://wearegreenbay.com/1fulltext-news?nxd_id=181492

And Janet has decided to release illegals out of detention. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/27/us...dget-cuts.html

The government has not dropped the deportation cases against the immigrants, however. The detainees have been freed on supervised release while their cases continue in court, officials said.
    :::wink wink nudge nudge:::

So, just who is Big Sis releasing?

Among those released in the past week was Anthony Orlando Williams, 52, a Jamaican immigrant who spent nearly three years in a detention center in Georgia. “I’m good, man,” he said. “I’m free.”

Mr. Williams, in a telephone interview from Stone Mountain, Ga., said he became an illegal immigrant when he overstayed a visa in 1991. He was detained in 2010 by a sheriff’s deputy in Gwinnett County, Ga., when it was discovered that he had violated probation for a conviction in 2005 of simple assault, simple battery and child abuse charges that sprung from a domestic dispute with his wife at the time
Oh my, Williams, wife-beater and child-abuser, sounds like a wonderful guy who can be utterly trusted back into American society and to show up for his deportation hearings!

    Heck of a job, Barry!

    ...

Big Sis has also said she would start furloughing Border Patrol agents. Nice one-two punch with releasing “undocumented” immigrants.
No word on whether or not they’ve totally given up on selling arms to Mexican drug cartels, though.

orangeman opines : Reason for mass release of illegal immigrants “hard to believe,” Boehner says
    ByLindsey Boerma

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, Tuesday in an interview with CBS News blasted the "outrageous" move by federal immigration officials to OK the release of hundreds of illegal immigrants as a way to save money ahead of Friday's fast-approaching sequestration.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) earlier today announced it had released on probation "a number of detained aliens" around the country "in order to make the best use of our limited detention resources in the current fiscal climate, and to manage our detention population under current congressionally mandate levels."

The deep and across-the-board sequester cuts that will go into effect barring an 11th hour act of compromise on Capitol Hill would mean fewer border security agents and less money to house detained illegal immigrants.

"This is very hard for me to believe, that they can't find cuts elsewhere in their agency," Boehner told "CBS Evening News" anchor Scott Pelley. "I frankly think this is outrageous."

Boehner's indignation has been matched throughout the day by fellow Republicans who have called it a political gambit by the White House administration. President Obama has been touring the country sounding the alarm on the dramatic impact of the cuts and calling on Congress to pass an alternative before the March 1 deadline that combines spending cuts with additional revenue by way of tax increases. "I'm looking for more facts," Boehner continued, "but I can't believe that they can't find the kind of savings they need out of that department short of letting criminals go free."

Asked by Pelley on what he thinks is going on, Boehner replied: "I think that the administration is trying to play games -- play games with the American people, scare the American people. This is not leadership."

The speaker also added: ["The White House is] out there making a lot of noise. What they really ought to be doing is coming up to the Hill and working with the Senate Democrats to pass a bill that can replace the sequester, and begin to deal with our long-term spending problem."

ICE in a statement stressed that it will continue to supervise the released detainees and prosecute them in immigration court - "and, when ordered, will seek their removal from the country." Detaining "serious criminal offenders and other individuals who pose a significant threat to public safety," the statement said, remains a priority.

why detain them? just send them back across the border and use the money in their pocket to pay for it. Mexico get about $25 BILLION american dollars from many of these people..so imagine if you add in chile, guatemala, england, russia, australia, israel, ireland, caribbean etc. how much money is sent out of this country by people who are here illegally and who do not pay taxes but still get free services at our expense! (and even if they do get deported they still get back in)

Obama’s Dangerous Illegal Alien Exodus: Past Released Detainees Murdered 19; Raped 142

By John Hill on February 27, 2013

A spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, an arm of the Department of Homeland Security, said the thousands of detainees selected for release over the past week – among an estimated 8,000 – 10,000 scheduled for release – were “noncriminals and other low-risk offenders who do not have serious criminal histories.” http://standwitharizona.com/blog/201...g-budget-cuts/

This is a blatant lie. The aliens released by DHS are criminals, who will put families and communities at greater risk from coast-to-coast.

According to Jessica Vaughan of CIS, here are some categories of detainees who were released from ICE detention over the last week: http://cis.org/vaughan/ice-detainees...-are-criminals

    •Aliens convicted of drug offenses, theft, identity theft, forgery, and simple assault;
    •Aliens who were arrested and charged with local crimes, but turned over to ICE for deportation in lieu of prosecution;
    •Aliens who were bonded out on local criminal charges and were placed in ICE custody as a result of a detainer (typically a public safety or flight risk); under new ICE detention priority purposes, these are “non-mandatory, non-criminal detainees”, because aliens are not considered to be dangerous or criminal until they have been convicted;
•Repeat immigration offenders (despite ICE leadership claims that these are “enforcement priorities”); and
•Recent border crossers (also supposedly an “enforcement priority”).

And DHS just released “thousands” of them, including 500 in a single weekend in a single Arizona county – without even informing the Sheriff. http://standwitharizona.com/blog/201...g-budget-cuts/

So what can we expect from the criminal aliens Obama released this past week? Well unfortunately the statistics over Obama’s first term do not paint a pretty picture.

According to a study by the Congressional Research Service, nearly 47,000 illegal aliens flagged for deportation between 2009 and 2011 were instead released by the Obama Administration, and 16% of them went on to commit further crimes, including 19 murders, 3 attempted murders and 142 sex crimes, according to CRS and the House Judiciary Committee.

“The Obama administration could have prevented these senseless crimes by enforcing our immigration laws,” said Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX). “But President Obama continues to further his anti-enforcement agenda while innocent Americans suffer the consequences. His unwillingness to enforce immigration laws puts our communities at risk and costs American lives.”

When illegal aliens are arbitrarily released into communities, Americans suffer the consequences.

And why were these potentially dangerous criminal aliens released? Merely to score political points against Republicans in the battle over “sequestration”.

Which just goes to prove what Stand With Arizona and its allies have said all along: the DHS is far too politicized to be trusted to implement either the Obama or the ‘Gang of 8′ immigration reform plans - both of which give complete deference to Janet Napolitano to determine whether the border is “secure”.

This latest reckless “budget amnesty” proves that immigration and border security will simply be used as a political weapon by DHS – another reason for politicans of both parties to reject “comprehensive immigration reform” – amnesty – legislation currently being proposed.

to those who are guarded 24/7 these 'criminals' do not pose a threat....to them. it is quite obvious that we do not count in the eyes of the government who takes our hard earn dollars and uses it for their own cause, a cause that is not constructive but destructive and they do not care who is in their path of destruction.

Immigration detainees' release causes outrage in Arizona
    By Cindy Carcamo ~ February 28, 2013, 6:00 a.m.

TUCSON — The release of more than 300 people from immigration detention centers in Arizona — part of a mass release across the nation in anticipation of looming federal budget cuts — sparked outrage among activists on both sides of the political aisle.

Anti-illegal immigration groups and others accused the Obama administration of playing politics, while an immigrant rights group said the incident showed the administration had detained people they shouldn’t have in the first place.

John Hill, executive director of the Phoenix-based anti-illegal immigration group Stand With Arizona, said the Department of Homeland Security was using immigration security as a political weapon. "The shocking, lawless actions of DHS in releasing thousands of illegal aliens from detention merely to score points on sequestration proves what we have said all along: The DHS is far too politicized to be trusted to implement either the Obama or the 'Gang of 8' immigration reform plans," Hill said in a statement.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said the release of “several hundred” detainees since last Thursday from deportation centers across the nation was in anticipation of spending cuts linked to the so-called budget sequestration, which mandates across-the-board cuts starting Friday unless Congress reaches a compromise. "As fiscal uncertainty remains over the continuing resolution and possible sequestration, ICE has reviewed its detained population to ensure detention levels stay within ICE’s current budget,” ICE spokeswoman Amber Cargile said in a statement. “Over the last week, ICE has reviewed several hundred cases and placed these individuals on methods of supervision less costly than detention."

Agency officials emphasized that those freed were on supervised release, with telephonic and electronic monitoring.

Cargile, based in Phoenix, said all of the released detainees remained in removal proceedings. She said priority for detention remained on serious criminal offenders and other individuals who are believed to pose a significant threat to public safety.

United We Dream, a youth-led network advocating for the legalization of 11 million people who are in the country illegally, said it took a “manufactured crisis to reunite families.”

“Every day I get calls from families being torn apart with a loved one about to be deported,” Carolina Canizales, coordinator of United We Dream’s End Our Pain Program, said in a statement. “Low-priority individuals — people who pose absolutely no risk or danger to society, but rather are upstanding members of their communities and families — should not have been locked up to begin with.”

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said she was “appalled” by the mass release, adding that it had been done “under the guise of federal budget cuts.”

Immigration officials said they had released 303 detainees since last Thursday from four Arizona facilities: Florence Detention Center, Eloy Detention Center, Pinal County Jail and Central Arizona Detention Center. An estimated 2,280 immigration detainees remain in custody in those facilities.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu criticized the move, saying it was harming public safety. “These are illegals that even President Obama wants to deport,” Babeu said in a statement on the sheriff’s department website. “This is insane that public safety is sacrificed when it should be the budget priority that’s safeguarded.”

Homeland Security official resigns after illegal immigrants released ahead of sequester
    3:33 PM 02/27/2013

Update, 10:00 p.m.: Mead, the director of enforcement and removal operations, had announced his retirement weeks ago to senior leadership in Homeland Security, according to ICE officials, who are pointedly insisting the move was entirely unrelated to the illegal immigrants’ release. ICE representatives have described the AP report cited below on Mead’s resignation as “inaccurate and misleading.”

    Read the original story below:

The Associated Press reported Wednesday that an official with the Department of Homeland Security has resigned amid questions over why the Obama administration released illegal immigrants across the country ahead of March 1 budget cuts: http://dailycaller.com/2013/02/27/ho...n-budget-cuts/

The Associated Press has learned that the Homeland Security Department official in charge of the agency’s immigration enforcement and removal operations has resigned after hundreds of illegal immigrants were released from jails because of government spending cuts.

In an email obtained Wednesday by the AP, Gary Mead told coworkers that he was leaving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the end of April. Mead is the head of enforcement and removal operations at ICE.

Mead had told co-workers of his resignation in the email sent Tuesday, hours after U.S. officials had confirmed that a few hundred illegal immigrants facing deportation had been released from immigration jails due to budget cuts.

President Barack Obama’s spokesman said Wednesday the White House was never consulted but described the immigrants as “low-risk, non-criminal detainees.”
According to an earlier report by the AP:

A spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Gillian Christensen, says the immigrants were being held around the country and being released and “placed on an appropriate, more cost-effective form of supervised release.” She did not say how many immigrants were released or how they were selected.
As the AP noted, the White House has sworn off any involvement in the decision, with spokesman Jay Carney telling reporters Wednesday that releasing the illegal immigrants was done “without any input from the White House.”

“This was a decision made by career officials at ICE without any input from the White House, as a result of fiscal uncertainty over the continuing resolution, as well as possible sequestration,” Carney said.

Arizona Governor on Release of Criminal Illegal Aliens: ‘Who’s Running This Country’?
By John Hill on February 28, 2013

Americans are furious over the outrageous, lawless release of thousands of criminal illegal aliens from ICE detention – hundreds in Arizona alone – endangering families and communities from coast-to-coast.

As the controversy swirled today, an angry Governor Jan Brewer (R-AZ) appeared on FoxNews’ Neil Cavuto show to react to both the detainee releases, as well as to two days of finger-pointing and avoidance of responsibility on the part of the White House and DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano.

The American people are fed up. We have all of this outrageous activity going on. And, they’re releasing illegal criminals. Because these are not arrest and release people. These are people who have been held for a reason… No one from the administration has contacted my Homeland Security Division. No one has contacted my office. No one has reached out. And, obviously they don’t know what the heck is going on because they didn’t know anything about it either. Well, who’s running this country?“
As Stand With Arizona reported yesterday, past released detainees deemed “low-priority” have committed thousands of violent crimes between 2009 and 2011, including 18 murders, 3 attempted murders and 142 sexual assaults. Brewer’s frustration reflects the chaos this Administration has created at the very center of the illegal immigration crisis: Arizona.

I think we should all be fearful of what’s taking place and what’s going on. And that we have a situation where no one’s in charge. No one knows what anybody else is doing,” she heatedly said. “It’s outrageous. It’s appalling, and we need some communication. We need some straight talk.”
Below is the full video of Governor Brewer’s appearance… http://vimeo.com/60803851

So what would be deem "high priority" - caught voting Republican ??
