If he doesn't get the death penalty then I wonder what it takes to get it. Those people were horribly tortured and raped. What more do you need to do to get it. But I bet he wont because some will say how bad he was treated as a child and he'll probably get life and be out in ten years.

Everyone involved needs to be punished to the highest extent of the law. I don't care if they prove he killed them or not. He was there, he took part in torturing them, knew they were going to be killed, etc. People who can do this to another human being hold no place in society, IMO.

Lord I wish I never read this but I couldn't stop My heart is breaking for this couple and their family members left behind. I am sitting reading this crying and wondering how could anyone do this to another human being. I hope that these monsters get the death penalty. I feel that a person who takes a life like these people did don't deserve to sit in prison being taken care of for the rest of their lives. They deserve to be treated just like they did their victims. It doesn't matter race or sexual perference because if they are evil enough to do this to another person then they aren't human at all. They need to go back to h-ll where they came from. Murder and other crimes are evil no matter who comments them. I am glad that this couples family will at least get justice for their children.

I am sad to report that murderer Letalvis Cobbins got life without parole (which is more likely 25 years or so, or less if state budget constraints dictate otherwise…see California’s recent decision to release nearly 200K inmates) instead of the death sentence he deserved.
Channon Christian and Chris Newsom were unavailable for comment.
…I hope and pray that Lemaricus Davidson (the ringleader) gets found guilty and gets the death penalty at his trial later this year. What a disgrace…

Three more trials to go. What agony for the families of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Boy, we have to be humane, and make sure we give him a place to live, 3 squares a day, DVD’s to watch, weights to lift, medical and dental care, free laundry service. Out-frigging standing!
Fortunately, he’ll finally find religion in the pokey
…unfortunately, it will be radical Islam. Great![/i]

LOGAN, W.Va. - A woman was sexually abused, beaten and humiliated while being held captive in a home for at least a week, sheriff's officials said Monday after making six arrests and calling the FBI to investigate it as a possible hate crime.
Those arrested, including a mother and son and a mother and daughter, are white. The victim, a Charleston woman who was being treated at a hospital Monday, is black. "The things that were done to this woman are just indescribable," Logan County sheriff's Sgt. Sonya Porter said.
Deputies found the 23-year-old victim Saturday after going to the home in Big Creek, about 35 miles southwest of Charleston, to investigate an anonymous tip. One of the suspects, Frankie Brewster, was sitting on the front porch and told deputies she was alone, but moments later the victim limped toward the door, her arms outstretched, saying "help me," the sheriff's department said in a news release.
Besides being sexually assaulted, the victim was stabbed four times in the left leg and beaten, Porter said. Both of her eyes were black and blue. Deputies said the woman's wounds were inflicted at least a week ago.
During her capture, the victim was forced to eat rat and dog feces and drink from the toilet, according to the criminal complaint filed in magistrate court. The woman also was choked with a cable cord and her hair was cut, it alleges.
One of those arrested, Karen Burton, is accused of cutting the woman's ankle with a knife. She used the N-word in telling the woman she was victimized because she is black, according to the criminal complaint.
Deputies say the woman was also doused with hot water while being sexually assaulted.
"We have called the feds," Chief Deputy V.K. Dingess with the Logan County Sheriff's Department said Monday. "They may pick this up as a hate crime."
A call seeking comment from the FBI was not immediately returned Monday.
Connection to suspects unknown
The six suspects were arrested Saturday and Sunday. Deputies were still trying to determine whether the victim knew her assailants and how she came to be at Brewster's home, Porter said.
Frankie Brewster, 49, is charged with kidnapping, sexual assault, malicious wounding and giving false information during a felony investigation. Deputies said she was the woman on the porch.
Her son, Bobby R. Brewster, 24, is charged with kidnapping, sexual assault, malicious wounding and assault during the commission of a felony.
Burton, 46, of Chapmanville, is charged with malicious wounding, battery and assault during the commission of a felony.
Her daughter Alisha Burton, 23, of Chapmanville, and George A. Messer, 27, of Chapmanville, are charged with assault during the commission of a felony and battery.
Danny J. Combs, 20, of Harts, is charged with sexual assault and malicious wounding.
All six were held Monday in lieu of $100,000 bond each, and all have asked for court-appointed public defenders.

[b]Woman in W.Va. torture case now says she lied
Wed Oct 21, 9:34 pm ET
COLUMBUS, Ohio – An attorney for a black woman who claimed torture by a white group in West Virginia says his client fabricated the story to get back at a boyfriend who had beaten her up.
Megan Williams' attorney, Byron Potts, said at a news conference Wednesday that Williams came forward because she no longer wants to live a lie. Potts encouraged West Virginia authorities to re-evaluate the case.
Williams told authorities in 2007 that she had been beaten, raped, forced to eat animal feces and taunted with racial slurs for days. She now lives in Columbus.
Seven white men and women were convicted in the case, and most are serving long prison terms.
Prosecutors in West Virginia have dismissed Williams' new claim, and lawyers for the defendants aren't discussing their plans.

Caretaker: Woman has changed torture story before
by MATT LEINGANG and TOM BREEN, Associated Press Writers
28 mins ago
COLUMBUS, Ohio – A black woman who recanted 2007 allegations of being kidnapped and tortured by a group of white people in West Virginia has mental issues and has changed her version of what happened more than once, her caretaker said Thursday.
Valencia Daniels of Columbus said that Megan Williams "goes back and forth, back and forth" about the allegations of being beaten, raped and tortured. Williams sometimes says the story is true and other times says some of it didn't happen, Daniels said.
"I really don't know what to believe," Daniels, 47, told The Associated Press. Seven people pleaded guilty to charges in the case. Six are serving lengthy prison terms.
Daniels' comments came one day after an attorney for Williams held a news conference to say Williams was recanting the whole story.
The attorney, Byron L. Potts, said Wednesday that Williams fabricated the story to get revenge on an ex-boyfriend and all her wounds except facial bruises were self-inflicted. He said Williams was coming forward because she no longer wanted to live a lie.
Williams, 22, and her 21-year-old sister, Shayla, have lived with Daniels in Columbus for more than a year. Daniels, who described herself as a community activist, said Megan Williams is receiving psychological counseling and needs constant supervision.
Daniels said she tried to talk Williams out of recanting because of inconsistencies in her story, but Williams insisted.
Potts said Thursday that Daniels and Williams came to his office earlier in the week. The only time he saw Williams exhibit strange behavior is when she backed out of appearing at the news conference about an hour before it was scheduled to begin, he said.
He said he doesn't want to move forward with the case until medical professionals determine Williams' mental state.
Earlier Thursday, Malik Shabazz, founder of the Washington, D.C.-based Black Lawyers for Justice, said he believed that Williams was being manipulated and that she really was tortured.
"I think it's a joke and I stand with the prosecutor and evidence that was presented in this case," he said.
Daniels denied that she is manipulating Williams and rejected any assertion that she is seeking publicity. Daniels had approached media outlets in recent months, handing out fliers that stated the truth needed to come out.
Williams had said her captors, including boyfriend Bobby Brewster, beat her, raped her, forced her to drink urine and eat feces, poured hot wax on her and taunted her with racial slurs in a trailer in Logan County, about 50 miles from Charleston. Williams was rescued after a passer-by heard cries from the shed where she was kept and an anonymous caller tipped off sheriff's deputies.
Brian Abraham, the Logan County prosecutor at the time of the 2007 incident, has dismissed Williams' new story as "absurd," and said the convictions were based on the defendants' own statements and physical evidence rather than what Williams said.
Shabazz was occasionally at odds with Abraham over the handling of the case. Frequently speaking on behalf of Williams and her family, Shabazz repeatedly urged authorities to pursue hate-crime charges against the accused. Ultimately, one of them, Karen Burton, was convicted on a state hate crimes charge.
Shabazz also organized a march and rallies in Charleston on Williams' behalf, and said those events and other fundraising earned more than $20,000 for her.
"I love Megan Williams, and I'm embarrassed," he said. "This case could have a lot of negative consequences for our people and the legal system in West Virginia, and our people who organized and marched through the streets. I must come forward and tell them they were not duped."
There is no practical legal effect of Wednesday's announcement, according to Philip Morrison, executive director of the West Virginia Prosecuting Attorneys Institute.
"She hasn't recanted," Morrison said. "A lawyer can't speak for an individual. The individual has to speak for herself. That's step one."
If Williams does give a formal statement, then it's up to the six convicts to file writs of habeas corpus to have their cases reopened, citing newly discovered evidence, Morrison said.
Lawyers for the six have either not responded to requests for comment or have declined to talk. The Associated Press has asked, via prison officials, to speak with the six. So far, Bobby Brewster has declined comment and the others have not responded.
Whatever the outcome of the legal process, the ripple effects of a high-profile and racially tinged case could result in future skepticism toward victims of shocking crimes.
"It can cause law enforcement and others to be more skeptical and resort to stereotypes about victims, and that can make it more difficult for victims to come forward," said Jeff Dion, director of the National Crime Victim Bar Association. Shabazz had the same concerns.

Man convicted in Tennessee couple's slayings
Duncan Mansfield, Associated Press Writer – 1 hr 20 mins ago
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The man accused of being the ringleader of a carjacking that turned into the rapes and murders of a Tennessee couple was convicted Wednesday of the most serious charges and now faces the death penalty.
The jury, which deliberated a little more than 8 hours before returning the verdict against Lemaricus Davidson, 28, was scheduled to begin hearing evidence later Wednesday on whether to sentence him to death.
Davidson was tried on 38 counts, including premeditated murder, felony murder, robbery, kidnapping, rape and theft in the 2007 deaths of University of Tennessee student Channon Christian, 21, and her boyfriend Christopher Newsom, 23.
The only not guilty findings were on three counts relating to the rape of Newsom, and Davidson was found guilty of the lesser crime of facilitation on those counts.
Davidson showed no emotion as he heard the jury's verdict. Newsom's family followed the readings closely but showed little reaction, while Christian's father rocked back and forth and occasionally pumped his fist as guilty verdicts were announced.
Prosecutors contended Davidson was the ringleader in the attack. The defense portrayed him as a drug dealer and bystander to the crimes but not the killer.
The prosecution presented six days of testimony that linked Davidson to the crime through DNA evidence from semen on Christian's body and fingerprints in her vehicle, on her paycheck stub and on the trash bag where her body was found.
Jurors saw a videotape of police questioning Davidson in which he blamed the murders on others. "Selling dope, that's what I do. I don't kill people."
Christian and Newsom were carjacked by several gun-wielding men during a Saturday night date as they left a friend's apartment. They were taken to Davidson's rental house, beaten, raped and killed over several hours.
A few days later, his naked, bound and shot body was found partially burned along some railroad tracks. Hers was found hog-tied and stuffed in a trash can in Davidson's house. She suffocated in the trash can.
Davidson, who moved to Knoxville after serving a prison sentence for carjacking in western Tennessee, was arrested within days in an abandoned house 10 minutes from the crime scene. Police found Newsom's silver athletic shoes in the house and a .22-caliber pistol.
The bullets were the same type that killed Newsom with an execution-style shot to the head, but forensic experts cannot say the pistol was the murder weapon, Eldridge said.
Davidson's brother Letalvis Cobbins was convicted in August of murder and related counts and sentenced to life in prison without parole. He testified during his trial that he participated in the carjacking and raped Christian but claimed he was going along with the crime out of fear of Davidson.
Another conspirator, Eric Boyd, was convicted in federal court of being an accessory after the fact and sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Two others, George Thomas and Vanessa Coleman, of Lebanon, Ky., are awaiting trial in state court on murder and related counts.
The 2007 killings became a racially charged case: The victims were white and middle class, and the defendants poor and black. Some conservative Internet commentators and white supremacist agitators claimed it didn't get the same attention as white-on-black hate crimes. Authorities said race didn't appear to be a factor.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091028/...s_couple_slain
Go back and read the source material if you don't think "race was a factor" - the defendants convicted themselves with their own testimony on THAT count.

Man sentenced to death in Tenn. torture slaying
Duncan Mansfield, Associated Press Writer – 32 mins ago
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – A Tennessee man convicted of kidnapping, rape and murder charges in the fatal carjacking of a couple on a date has been sentenced to death.
The defendant, 28-year-old Lemaricus Davidson, showed no reaction Friday as jurors announced the death sentences for the murders of 21-year-old college student Channon Christian and her 23-year-old boyfriend, Christopher Newsom.
Davidson was found guilty of abducting the couple in Knoxville during a 2007 carjacking by several armed men.
Both were raped, Newsom was fatally shot and Christian suffocated after she was choked and stuffed in a garbage bag and trash can.
Davidson's brother was convicted in the same attack in August and is serving life in prison without parole. Two other defendants from Kentucky are awaiting trial.
(This version CORRECTS lead to reflect that Davidson was convicted of kidnapping, rape and murder charges in the case, but was not convicted of raping the male victim.)
