i couldn't do it either to tell you the truth unless it's in attack mode, but who has antifreeze on hand lol at a time like that maybe you could try talking to the owners.

atleast the person would be breathing and in trouble with the law verses maimed or dead

Re: time for vigilante justice

I Know I'm kinda late in responding to this, but I just found it. I'm the mother of the son that was attacked by the two pitbulls in North Carolina. I know it sounds so easy to say that you would just shoot the dogs, but you have to understand what happened. I immediately took my son to the emergency room, I was NOT going to make him wait while he was bleeding severely and in pain so I could go shoot the dogs. I did not later come back and shoot the dogs because I would have then gone to jail myself. And with my husband overseas at the time, where would my son go? I instead decided to fight the non existant laws in my county, and did finally win. There are now strict laws regarding dangerous dogs here. I do not blame the dogs, however I do think these two dogs should be put down before they do it again. I blame the owners for being irresponsible. I don't think any particular breed is worse than the other, I think there are particular types of people who are worse than others. These are the type of people that won't respond to any phone calls, even from animal control. I just wanted to put my two cents in. Thank you.

i'm glad the laws have changed, and that fast in hoke county??? good for you and potential victims in the future. i found it to be so backwards that they were allowed to continue to roam free. i don't know that i could have waited for justice to play out legally...your kid is in the house recovering from wounds and meanwhile, the dogs are running the neighborhood (atleast that's what the news report made it sound like). how is your son now?

Re: time for vigilante justice

My son is doing well now, he has some scars that will pry be there for a long time. Yes, the dogs were given back with no penalty. The woman that owns them did put them in a fence, so there was no way of getting to them. Some of my neighbors still walk past her house daily to make sure they are not loose again. She knows if anyone around here sees them they'll kill them. It took three months for them to change the laws, this happened back in October, and they just voted for the laws this past Monday. I wouldn't let them take any longer, I was pretty much in their face's at all times. There are pending issues still. It has been found that the animal control director not only lied to me but also lied to the health director who is in charge of this type of thing. The DA here is on it now. So there will be more to happen. I'll try to keep everyone up to date.

i'm glad he's doing well. the physical scars will fade...hopefully he wasn't too traumatized that it'll be a bad issue for him in years to come. the woman who owns them at the very least should have to pay for his hospital bills? did she? i'm sorry, but if i were the owner of the dogs (which would be impossible cause i'm deathly afraid of them and rottie's), i would have had to put them to sleep. that goes for my little yorkie and weiner dog as well......if they ever bit a child and cause damage, they are either going to someone with no kids (if someone would take them) or have to be put to sleep.

i don't know if your from hoke county or not so i hope not to offend you but that does not suprise me about the lying/corruption. i think alot of people in charge in that area don't have much education past a high school diploma...and then the school system there don't have a good rep either. (Im from fayetteville is how i know this). the county is run on the good ole boy network.

thank goodness you did not let them get away with it.

Re: time for vigilante justice

I live in Hoke county now, because I married a military man. I am not from here. I totally understand what you said about the education level around here. In fact, I live in Raeford and send my son to a school in Moore county. As of now, the owners have not had to pay for anything, we have gotten a lawyer to help us with that. The owners in fact lied to us about the dogs being updated with their shots. They haven't even said they are sorry. I agree, if it were one of my dogs that did this, it would automatically be put down, no questions asked. I have a rott, and he is great. Very gentle, as most rotts are. Rotts are not violent by nature, unfortunatly because they look mean, people have started training them to be mean. Yet, I know and understand the potential of my rott, and take very good care of him. I know that any dog has that potential to turn mean, and if my rott did do that he could cause massive damage. Therefore, I take the procautions to make sure that doesn't happen. Again, if falls on the owner. If I neglected my rott or abused him chances are he would turn mean. Dogs by nature want to be loved by people. Unfortunatly again, people don't want to love them as they should. A big dog is something to be admired and respected. Just like anything else that could be dangerous, if you don't respect it, you get hurt.

Re: time for vigilante justice

Were we live we have no leash law and we have lived here 21yrs in that time we have had attacks on my kids and animals by pit bulls, chows, and german shepard. One time i let my lab out and a pitbull and chow got ahold of her pulling her apart i took a tire tool along with a neighbor and got in the middle to break them off her she ended up with 20 different places that had to have stitches or glued with drainage lines. That could of been one of my kids the same chow did attack my daughter and thank god she had a cast on her hand that is what he grabbed but after repeating to tell the owners to keep it out of our yard my dh had to shot it one day as it attacked again. I know here we are trying to get leash laws but since we live in country we may not beable to do anything. If we ever get our community as its own little town then we can finally do something.

Re: time for vigilante justice

It doesn't matter that you live out in the country. I also live in the country on 5 acreas. I had to go to the commissioners meetings and throw pictures of my sons wounds at them....lol....but it got the job done. Usually inside of the city there are some kind of laws, but out in the country unfortunatly there aren't. Go to your county commissioners meeting and demand to be heard. It's not an easy fight, but it can be done. I'm proof of that. If I can be of any help, let me know.
