Re: time for vigilante justice

And why would you consider killing these dogs as vigilante justice? Back in the day if a stray dog came onto your property there was no big deal if you shot it. Or if they harmed your property there was no problem killing them. Now if you do it, it is considered a crime.

I just think it is a damn shame that animals have more rights than humans.

We live next to pit bulls and so far so good, but I'm scared to death of them.

Re: time for vigilante justice

Where I live, ANY dog that attacks a human or another animal is put down, no querstions asked, and the owner is not only fined. they are NOT allowed to ever own another dog. I feel bad that you usually only hear about pits - ALL dogs will attack.

I think it's a damn shame people aren't taking care of their animals - then things like this wouldn't happen. The people that owned the dogs are to
blame.......

So what would you do? Just let some stray dog destroy your property or kill you pets or livestock? And I am sorry, maybe it is the owner's fault, but that is actually besides the point. The fact is that a stray animal is on your property causing damage or physical harm. I never said anything about shooting a dog for getting into the garbage. I think my post was very self explanitory.

I love animals, I have a zoo to prove it, but I stand by my original comment, it is a damn shame that an animal has more rights than a human.

Re: time for vigilante justice

I love animals too... have 3 now and grew with animals all my life. But here you can also shoot an animal for distroying property or life or JUST being on your property. I have right now 3 dogs that come in to our yard and several kitties. Now my kids know who they belong to and their names. Hubby is still a little skittish of having kids around them because you just don't know what an animal who is lost or scared will do. They haven't done anything to our property so we leave them alone, well hubby scares them away sometimes. Oh a couple of the cats come up to a certain window and taunt our kitties, which I think is cute lol. ANYWAYS, if one dog got into our garage and started destroying things and we got growled at trying to shoo it I would maybe do the unthinkable, but most likely wait till it leaves if not destroying to much. BUT It would be our legal right for sure. And if any animal messed with or bit my kids in my yard I would DEF do it, no if ands or buts. Now letting your animals go wonder is very irrisponsible. The people around here speed like crazy and many animals have been hit by cars.

No, t's not "actually besides the point". Why can't a person be held responsible for their actions.? Oh - excuse me, isn't that what
laws were suposed to do? Or at least they used to do......

There is a difference between someone taking care of their animal and it's getting loose on occaision and someone neglecting it
and letting it run all the time.

Why can't/shouldn't people be held responsible for their actions? If an animal is not fed, not taken care of, it's
going to run. Who is responsible for that? The animal or the owner? Hmmm, seems simple to me.......
Or is it - oh, never mind, it;s just an animal they are negelecting.....

I don't agree with running dogs being able to hurt someone seriously and being left alone, but
go find the cause and deal with the person that was the real cause of the whole thing. Otherwise, they (the people)
are just going to do it again.

If you know who they belong to, why not talk to them about taking better care of their animals?

And when they don't and the animal returns with and just doesn't growl at your children or doesn't just dump your trash? What then? The person that you responded to said that if a stray came into her yard and showed agression toward her children she would take care of it herself. You disagree with this? Do you also agree with the OP or do you think her opinion is wrong also?

I was raised in a rural farming community. Stray dogs were not a good idea.

if your dog wasn't threatening me, my children, or animals then the only thing i'd do in this situation is to ask you nicely to come clean the trash up and keep your dog in your yard or house. if you refused then you'd have a yard full of trash but that's a whole nother post, but seriously...i ain't cleaning up after someone else's dog. the only way i'd kill any dog is if me, my kids, or my animals were threatened or attacked.

edited to add. i'd also kill a dog if not just me or my family or animals were being attacked. if i saw any person or other animal being attacked and i could get a shot in, then i would. i've seen kitties torn apart by pitt's, it aint fun.
