Ashes of Pringles can designer buried in his work
Mon Jun 2, 12:19 PM ET
CINCINNATI - The man who designed the Pringles potato crisp packaging system was so proud of his accomplishment that a portion of his ashes has been buried in one of the iconic cans.
Fredric J. Baur, of Cincinnati, died May 4 at Vitas Hospice in Cincinnati, his family said. He was 89.
Baur's children said they honored his request to bury him in one of the cans by placing part of his cremated remains in a Pringles container in his grave in suburban Springfield Township. The rest of his remains were placed in an urn buried along with the can, with some placed in another urn and given to a grandson, said Baur's daughter, Linda Baur of Diamondhead, Miss.
Baur requested the burial arrangement because he was proud of his design of the Pringles container, a son, Lawrence Baur of Stevensville, Mich., said Monday.
Baur was an organic chemist and food storage technician who specialized in research and development and quality control for Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble Co.
Baur filed for a patent for the tubular Pringles container and for the method of packaging the curved, stacked chips in the container in 1966, and it was granted in 1970, P&G archivist Ed Rider said.
Baur retired from P&G in the early 1980s.

Man accused of strolling in thong, fake breasts
Mon Jun 30, 8:22 PM ET
MANCHESTER, Conn. - A Manchester man has been arrested after he allegedly strolled along Interstate 291 wearing nothing but a thong, fake breasts and a wig. Police say they received several calls about the man, which prompted an hour-long search over the weekend.
Police said they found the suspect Saturday fully clothed and collecting cans behind a business in Manchester. Police said they also found a wig and fake breasts in the man's car.
The man, 42, was charged with disorderly conduct and simple trespass. He's free after posting $2,500 bail.

5-Year-Old Leaves Day Care, Goes to Hooters
Last Edited: Thursday, 24 Jul 2008, 5:52 PM CDT
Created: Thursday, 24 Jul 2008, 1:57 PM CDT
DENTON, Texas -- Denton police say a child was able to sneak out of his day-care center without anyone noticing and take a perilous walk that ended at a Hooters restaurant.
The 5-year-old boy reportedly walked out of the Imagination Station day care in the 2300 block of San Jacinto Boulevard on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said he walked a long way in 100-degree heat crossing at least two busy streets.
He went to a Pep Boys, where he swiped some gum, according to a store worker. The boy then hiked to a RaceTrac gas station where he stole a soda, according to investigators.
His walk then led to a Hooters restaurant where employees gave him a coloring book and soda pop to drink and called police.
The child was not hurt and he was released to his father.
Imagination Station would not comment on the situation.
According to the Department of Family and Protective Services, the day care has had several violations including one in April in which inspectors determined that staff was not properly supervising the children.
The state agency is now investigating this case.

Fish Pedicures Go Belly-Up In Texas
Texas Regulators Ban Procedure
POSTED: 9:53 am EDT October 9, 2008
AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas state health officials feel there's something fishy about fish pedicures.
Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation announced Wednesday that the procedure was banned in the state.
Using a lot of little fish to nibble bits of dead skin off people's feet is the hot thing in the spa world. But health experts are concerned the fish have the potential to spread infections.
A spokeswoman with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation told The Dallas Morning News that because the foot baths and holding tanks are home to live fish, they can't always be properly cleaned and disinfected.
However, officials noted they know of no actual cases of fish pedicures causing health problems.
The Zen Luxury Nail & Beauty Bar in a Dallas suburb bought $2,500 worth of the fish. The co-owner told The Dallas Morning News she's not sure what they're going to do with the 500 guppy-like creatures now that fish pedicures are banned.
Last week, the state of Washington also banned the procedure.
