Former CIA contractor speaks out about Benghazi attack
By Lilian Kim Monday, May 23, 2016

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (KGO) -- A former CIA contractor who helped fight off terrorists in Benghazi four years ago was in the Bay Area on Sunday. Kris Paronto shared his story in a book, which was released into a movie earlier this year.

Paronto spoke to a group of Marin County Republicans about what happened in the critical moments before Piedmont native Chris Stevens and three other Americans lost their lives.

"I was the ranger," Paronto said.

Paronto is one of the few people who really knows what happened in Benghazi four years ago.

On Sunday night, he spoke at the Marin GOP Lincoln-Reagan dinner in San Rafael.

"The State Department failed us. They did. That's not a political statement. That's just a fact," he said.

Paronto's story was told in the book "13 Hours," which was later turned into a movie released earlier this year.

He was among a group of former special ops soldiers hired by the CIA to provide security for the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya - the same group that defied orders to stand down when the consulate was under terrorist attack on September 11, 2012.

"If you want to get down to the exact words, wait. Five minutes into it, stand down was told to us 15 minutes into it, then another wait, twenty-five minutes into it and that last one was when we, the team, made a team decision to say, 'Hey, we need to go,'" Paronto said.

To this day, Paronto has no idea why his team was told to stand down. He believes if they'd been dispatched from the beginning, some of the Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, would be alive today.

Paronto visited Stevens' grave last year in Grass Valley. "He should not have died. He was left out to dry and he was, that guy was a patriot and the Benghazi people loved him," he said.

The house committee that's investigating the Benghazi attack says it will release its report before the Democratic and GOP conventions in July.

Hillary Email SHOWED Terrorists How to Kill Amb. Chris Stevens

An email released Monday pertaining to the Benghazi investigation from Hillary Clinton’s private email server revealed that a message detailing the location of murdered Ambassador Chris Stevens passed through the unsecured server, raising the possibility that terrorists could have intercepted the message.

According to Breitbart, the April 10, 2011, email from State Department employee Timmy Davis was forwarded to the server by Clinton’s aide, Huma Abedin.

“The situation in Ajdabiyah has worsened to the point where Stevens is considering departure from Benghazi,” Davis’ email read.

“The envoy’s delegation is currently doing a phased checkout (paying the hotel bills, moving some comms to the boat, etc). He will monitor the situation to see if it deteriorates further, but no decision has been made on departure. He will wait 2-3 more hours, then revisit the decision on departure.”

The email is the latest in a chain of emails that reveal Ambassador Stevens‘ location was readily available to anyone who could hack into Hillary Clinton’s unsecured private email server.

In March of 2011, an email stated that, “The current game plan is for Mr. Stevens to move no later than Wednesday from Malta to Benghazi. He will stage offshore initially for a one day visit during which he will have meetings with TNC (Transitional National Council) interlocutors and get a sense of the situation on the ground. The goal of this one day trip is for him to lay the groundwork for a stay of up to 30 days.”

Then, on April 8, another email reported that the “security situation in Benghazi remains quiet. Chris Stevens & team are in the hotel, moving only for meetings as required.”

On April 22, another email detailing Stevens’ travel plans: “I want to let you know about a temporary rotation in Benghazi. TNC Envoy Chris Stevens has been on the road since March 13, when he began his outreach mission, and has been in Benghazi since April 5.”

And then, on April 24, there was an email which told the exact time Ambassador Stevens would be having a meeting:

“Stevens will be meeting with MFA in one hour and will make a written request for better security at the hotel and for better security-related coordination. He still feels comfortable in the hotel. They are looking into the idea of moving into a villa, but that is some way off.”
We may never know whether terrorists were able to break into Hillary Clinton’s non-secure personal server, especially given the amount of subterfuge that Clinton has engaged in to ensure her emails stay buried.

To make things worse, Hillary Clinton doesn’t care. She’s willing to put her own electoral chances above the lives of four Americans, including a U.S. ambassador.

And this is the woman that Democrats want to make president.

It’s time for America to stand up and say no.

State Department Continues to Defy Subpoena, Citing Bogus, Nonexistent Privileges
    June 27, 2016 Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Select Committee on Benghazi Chairman Trey Gowdy (SC-04) released the following statement regarding the State Department’s continued refusal to provide information about the emails and records it is withholding from the committee based on bogus, nonexistent privileges:

“For nearly a year and a half, the State Department has withheld documents and information about Benghazi and Libya from the American people’s elected representatives in Congress. Whatever the administration is hiding, its justifications for doing so are imaginary and appear to be invented for the sake of convenience. That’s not how complying with a congressional subpoena works, and its well past time the department stops stonewalling.”

The Wall Street Journal reported May 13 that, “[c]iting ‘institutional interests’ and ‘confidentiality,’ the State Department has on four occasions chosen to withhold some documents from committee investigators[.]” In his May 11 letter to Secretary of State John Kerry, Chairman Gowdy noted these are “dubious legal ‘theories’ not recognized by the Constitution,” and gave the State Department until May 18 to provide “a log describing each document that has been withheld, the number of pages, and the legal basis for withholding the document.”

More than five weeks after that deadline, the State Department has still not complied.

The committee has repeatedly sought this information since the State Department first concocted these privileges 16 months ago. A department official told The Wall Street Journal any discussion of claiming executive privilege is premature, saying, “We fully intend to resolve this matter through our ongoing discussions with the committee.” Despite this pledge, the department has on several occasions failed to provide a response when it said it would.

The four Libya-related document productions to the committee the State Department has acknowledged withholding records from included the former Secretary of State’s emails, Accountability Review Board (ARB) records, and emails and records from Cheryl Mills, Jake Sullivan, and Susan Rice.

The Committee requested the records in question on November 18, 2014, and subpoenaed them on March 4, 2015. The Washington Free Beacon reported that despite the State Department being informed subpoenaed records should not be removed or transferred, the Department transferred records for archiving in April 2015, a month after the subpoena was issued. Some documents in this “overlooked” cache were finally produced to the Committee this year, on February 26, April 8 and May 5.

The Obama administration’s serial delays in producing documents total more than 10,000 days, the equivalent of over 27 years. Since (and including) New Year’s Eve, the committee has received more than 6,500 pages of documents from the State Department, including over 400 just last month.

I am surprised that this admin (pres, state dept, irs etc) hasn't used the excuse that they cannot turn over documents because someone's feeling will get hurt they appear to do it for everything else EXCEPT when it pertains to "those people on the other side".

Obama Now Refuses to Answer Any Questions about Benghazi
    Jordan Riddle
    12:05pm June 27, 2016

President Obama has decided that he is no longer going to answer any questions about the terror attacks in Benghazi that left four Americans dead.

Just look what happened when Rep. Trey Gowdy recently sent the White House a list of questions about the attack…

    From The Federalist Papers http://www.thefederalistpapers.org/u...about-benghazi
    via Politico: http://www.politico.com/story/2016/0...i-obama-224813

But Obama – through his lawyer, Neil Eggleston, flatly refused. Instead, Politico reports, he blasted the committee for even daring to send the President a list of questions. He said he encouraged Obama not to answer the questions “because of the implications of his response on the constitutional separation of powers,” according to a letter sent Saturday to Gowdy (R-S.C.) .

“If the president were to answer your questions, his response would suggest that Congress has the unilateral power to demand answers from the president about his official acts,” the letter reads.

Eggleston also accused the committee of political games – claiming the panel asked questions they already know the answer to – something the committee denies.

For its part, the committee said Obama’s refusal to cooperate only hinders their investigation.

“It’s no surprise President Obama would rather take questions from Derek Jeter than answer questions for the American people about the Benghazi terrorist attacks, which followed what he himself has called his worst mistake — failing to plan for what happened after the State Department pushed U.S. intervention in Libya,” said committee spokesman Jamal Ware.

“The White House’s fictional narrative today is the latest chapter of the story it has been spinning since 2012, when four of our fellow citizens were murdered by Al-Qaeda-linked terrorists in the tragic terrorist attacks in Benghazi.”
    How convenient.

Gowdy still hasn’t received a response from Obama, and I bet he never will.

Instead, he was sharply criticized for his panel’s “motives.”

    Makes sense, right?

Well guess what Obama ! you have to answer to the people ! They elected you and elected means they hired you to do a job. We can also fire you ! He really should be in prison by now.

    ..

Hate to point this out, but Congress DOES have unilateral power to investigate crimes committed by the president. If he doesn't reply, hold him in contempt and impeach him.

    ..

If he answered truthfully, he might just admit that he and Clinton were both complicit in running guns from Libya to Syria that wound up with our enemies.

    ..

Where is the Transparency he keeps claiming???

    ..

"Admit nothing, deny everything, make counter accusations."

this just goes to show he's hiding something, he's not gonna answer anymore questions about Benghazi because he knows him an killary are guilty. they both have something to hide. I saw 13 hours, an to me the way it happened, suggests the attack was planned prior to chris stevens arrival. they both wanted him dead for some reason.

Dems: Clinton never personally denied Benghazi security
By MATTHEW DALY, Associated Press - 11 hrs ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats on the House Benghazi panel said in a report Monday that security at the Libya facility the night of Sept. 11, 2012 was "woefully inadequate," but former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton never personally denied any requests from diplomats for additional protection.

The panel's five Democrats said after a two-year investigation that the military could not have done anything differently on the night of the attacks to save the lives of four Americans killed in Libya. U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens died in one of the two assaults that night at the U.S. outpost and CIA annex.

Democrats' release of their own report heightened the partisanship of the inquiry, which has been marked by accusations of Obama administration stonewalling and finger-pointing. Republicans on the panel missed a self-imposed deadline to issue a report "before summer," but the Democrats' move in issuing their report could spur the GOP's final product.

Whatever the timing, the Republican report is certain to have repercussions for Clinton, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.

The Democrats said they regretted that their 344-page report was not bipartisan, but said Republicans left them little choice after conducting "one of the longest and most partisan congressional investigations in history."

While the GOP-led panel's two-year inquiry obtained additional details about the twin attacks in Benghazi, it did not fundamentally alter conclusions of previous investigations, the Democrats said.

Democrats blamed inadequate security in Benghazi on decisions made by mid-level officials at the State Department and said that, contrary to repeated claims by Republicans, neither Clinton nor anyone else intentionally delayed the military's response or ordered a "stand down." The Democrats called GOP claims of a stand-down order baseless "and offensive to our men and women in uniform."

The report also disputes a Republican charge that the White House intentionally misled the American public by casting the Benghazi assault as one of the many protests over an offensive, anti-Muslim video, instead of a calculated terrorist attack that occurred on President Barack Obama's watch.

The Democrats said that the "assessments and information" that the CIA and other intelligence agencies provided to U.S. government officials "evolved" after the attacks but were not influenced by the upcoming 2012 presidential election or any other political factors.

Obama's critics have zeroed in on the talking points, a reference to a memo prepared for lawmakers and then-U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice to help her get ready for appearances on the Sunday news shows to discuss the attack less than a week after it occurred.

The Democrats said not a single witness that appeared before the Benghazi committee "identified evidence that intelligence assessments or CIA talking points provided to Congress and Ambassador Rice were influenced by political considerations," according to the report.

House Democrats mistakenly release transcript confirming big payout to Clinton friend Sidney Blumenthal
    By Evan Halper - June 27, 2016, 3:09 PM |Reporting from Washington

The Democrats on the House Benghazi committee released their final conclusions from the inquiry into attacks on Americans in that Libyan city in 2012, and in the report they say, once again, that the investigation is a politically motivated sham aimed at damaging the reputation of Hillary Clinton.

But the report, which the Democrats published as a preemptive strike before the Republican majority releases findings likely to charge ineptitude and deception by the former secretary of State, also revealed, apparently unintentionally, details about the eye-popping amount of money a close Clinton friend and advisor made in a contract with a pro-Clinton nonprofit.

Democrats released but redacted a transcript of Clinton confidant Sidney Blumenthal answering the committee’s questions to make the point that Republicans do not want the public to know what went on during the his interrogation, during which GOP members arguably used their subpoena power to conduct political opposition research unrelated to Benghazi.

But the redaction marks are easily erased by anyone able to use a computer’s cut-and-paste function. Once the marks are lifted, the transcript portion reveals some unflattering things for any partisans on the committee, Republican or Democrat. It shows that Republicans did, indeed, leverage their subpoena of Blumenthal for political gain, digging into his financial contracts with David Brock and forcing him to reveal the details of a lucrative financial arrangement that congressional sources would ultimately leak to Fox News.

And for Democrats, the exchange exposes once again the absurd amounts of money people in the orbit of the Clintons sometimes seem to rake in just for, well, being in the orbit of the Clintons. “I’d say it’s about $200,000 a year,” Blumenthal said when asked by a committee member how much the part-time work offering up advice and ideas was worth.

“Redacted due to Chairman Gowdy’s refusal to allow release of transcript,” says a footnote to the pages of thick black redaction marks. “If released, the transcript would show that Republicans asked Mr. Blumenthal questions about his relationship with Media Matters, David Brock and Correct the Record.” Brock is a longtime Clinton loyalist, and Correct the Record and Media Matters are among the nonprofits he uses to attack Clinton opponents.

And how did Blumenthal get such a contract? “I have had a very long friendship with the chairman of Media Matters, whose name is David Brock, from before he founded this organization, and I have sustained that friendship. And he asked me to help provide ideas and advice to him and his organizations,” Blumenthal said.

Actually, the two got to know each other during the impeachment of Bill Clinton, during Brock’s former incarnation as a right-wing “hit man” journalist. He was starting to undergo his political conversion and in the process was feeding then-White House aide Blumenthal intelligence about what the right was plotting against Bill Clinton. Both men wrote about it in their books.

Below is the full transcript excerpt that Democrats intended not to publish. It is unclear who the questioner is in the first section.

Q: Did you ever receive any payment from an organization called Media Matters?

A: Oh, yes. I did — I did receive payment in that period from Media Matters.

Q: Okay. And what was your relationship with Media Matters at that time period?

    A: I was a consultant to Media Matters. I’m sorry I—

    Q: That’s okay.

    A: I overlooked that.

Q: When did you become a consultant for Media Matters?

A: I would say the very end of 2012.

Q: Okay. And how did that come about, that you became a consultant for Media Matters?

A: I have had a very long friendship with the chairman of Media Matters, whose name is David Brock, from before he founded this organization, and I have sustained that friendship. And he asked me to help provide ideas and advice to him and his organizations.

Q: So you began your relationship, your paid relationship, with Media Matters at the end of 2012.

    A: Right.

Q: Does that continue to this day?

    A: It does.

Q: Okay. And what is your salary or your contract with Media Matters? How much money are you earning from them?

    A: I’d say it’s about $200,000 a year.

Q: And has that been roughly consistent from when you began receiving payment from Media Matters?

*[redacted due to Chairman Gowdy’s refusal to allow release of transcript].

    A: I would say it’s — I’d have to check. I think it’s increased a little bit. It’s increased some.

Q: Okay. Are you familiar with the organization American Bridge?

    A: Yes.

Q: Have you received any compensation from American Bridge over the last five years?

    A: Yes.

Q: Okay. And how much compensation have you received from American Bridge?

A: Well, when I talk about that amount of money, I mean all of those organizations.

Q: So all of David Brock’s entities —

    A: Right.

    Q: — combined are 200,000?

    A: About.

    Q: Okay.

    A: Something like that.

Q: Okay. So there’s American Bridge.

    A: Yes.

    Q: There’s Media Matters.

    A: Right.

Q: Are there any other organizations on which you have done work for Mr. Brock?

    A: Correct the Record

    Q: Okay.

    A: — is another organization.

    Q: Okay.

A: And then there’s the American Independent Institute, which is a journalistic foundation.

Q: So, when you receive your paycheck, who signs the paycheck? Where does that come from?

A: It’s deposited directly. I imagine it comes from David Brock.

Q: Okay. Not David Brock personally but one of his —

A: Whoever — whoever is responsible for that payment.
Blumenthal and Republican Select Committee Member Mike Pompeo had the following exchange about Correct the Record:

Q: Fair enough. I’m going to jump around a little bit. You said I think earlier this morning that you still are working for Correct the Record?

    A: I am.

Q: And tell me what the mission of Correct the Record is.

A: Correct the Record is pretty much what it says, to correct — it’s a nonprofit organization to correct the record about public misstatements about prominent Democrats.

Q: Including this committee. If this committee said something, Correct the Record might comment on things that it said incorrectly and indeed it has?

A: That may well be so.

Q: Have you written any of that?

    A: No.

Q: Yeah. So you haven’t made any comments as part of your role in Correct the Record related to this committee’s work? You haven’t written any —

A: I have not written those.

State Dept. misplaced $6B under Hillary Clinton

In this Sept. 14, 2012, file photo, Libyan military guards check one of the U.S. consulate's burned buildings in Benghazi, after a deadly attack on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, that killed four Americans. (AP Photo/Mohammad Hannon, File)

Benghazi : GOP lawmakers say Hillary Clinton created conditions for attack

The State Department misplaced and lost some $6 billion due to the improper filing of contracts during the past six years, mainly during the tenure of former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, according to a newly released Inspector General report.

The $6 billion in unaccounted funds poses a “significant financial risk and demonstrates a lack of internal control over the Department’s contract actions,” according to the report.

The alert, originally sent on March 20 and just released this week, warns that the missing contracting funds “could expose the department to substantial financial losses.”

The report centered on State Department contracts worth “more than $6 billion in which contract files were incomplete or could not be located at all,” according to the alert.

“The failure to maintain contract files adequately creates significant financial risk and demonstrates a lack of internal control over the Department’s contract actions,” the alert states.

Select Committee on Benghazi Releases Proposed Report

81 New Witnesses, 75,000 New Pages of Documents Reveal Significant New Information,

Fundamentally Changes the Public’s Understanding of the 2012 Terrorist Attacks that Killed Four Americans

Washington, D.C. – Select Committee on Benghazi Chairman Trey Gowdy (SC-04) released the following statement after the committee’s Majority released a mark of its investigative report:

“Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods were heroes who gave their lives in service to our country. Their bravery and the courageous actions of so many others on the ground that night should be honored.
“When the Select Committee was formed, I promised to conduct this investigation in a manner worthy of the American people’s respect, and worthy of the memory of those who died. That is exactly what my colleagues and I have done.
“Now, I simply ask the American people to read this report for themselves, look at the evidence we have collected, and reach their own conclusions. You can read this report in less time than our fellow citizens were taking fire and fighting for their lives on the rooftops and in the streets of Benghazi.”
The committee’s proposed report is just over 800 pages long and is comprised of five primary sections and 12 appendices. It details relevant events in 2011 and 2012.

The following facts are among the many new revelations in Part I:

•Despite President Obama and Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta’s clear orders to deploy military assets, nothing was sent to Benghazi, and nothing was en route to Libya at the time the last two Americans were killed almost 8 hours after the attacks began. [pg. 141]

•With Ambassador Stevens missing, the White House convened a roughly two-hour meeting at 7:30 PM, which resulted in action items focused on a YouTube video, and others containing the phrases “[i]f any deployment is made,” and “Libya must agree to any deployment,” and “[w]ill not deploy until order comes to go to either Tripoli or Benghazi.” [pg. 115]

•The Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff typically would have participated in the White House meeting, but did not attend because he went home to host a dinner party for foreign dignitaries. [pg. 107]

•A Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team (FAST) sat on a plane in Rota, Spain, for three hours, and changed in and out of their uniforms four times. [pg. 154]

•None of the relevant military forces met their required deployment timelines. [pg. 150]

•The Libyan forces that evacuated Americans from the CIA Annex to the Benghazi airport was not affiliated with any of the militias the CIA or State Department had developed a relationship with during the prior 18 months. Instead, it was comprised of former Qadhafi loyalists who the U.S. had helped remove from power during the Libyan revolution. [pg. 144]

Rep. Mike Pompeo (KS-04) released the following statement regarding these findings:

“We expect our government to make every effort to save the lives of Americans who serve in harm’s way. That did not happen in Benghazi. Politics were put ahead of the lives of Americans, and while the administration had made excuses and blamed the challenges posed by time and distance, the truth is that they did not try.”
Rep. Martha Roby (AL-02) released the following statement regarding these findings:

“Our committee’s insistence on additional information about the military’s response to the Benghazi attacks was met with strong opposition from the Defense Department, and now we know why. Instead of attempting to hide deficiencies in our posture and performance, it’s my hope our report will help ensure we fix what went wrong so that a tragedy like this never happens again.”
The following facts are among the many new revelations in Part II:

•Five of the 10 action items from the 7:30 PM White House meeting referenced the video, but no direct link or solid evidence existed connecting the attacks in Benghazi and the video at the time the meeting took place. The State Department senior officials at the meeting had access to eyewitness accounts to the attack in real time. The Diplomatic Security Command Center was in direct contact with the Diplomatic Security Agents on the ground in Benghazi and sent out multiple updates about the situation, including a “Terrorism Event Notification.” The State Department Watch Center had also notified Jake Sullivan and Cheryl Mills that it had set up a direct telephone line to Tripoli. There was no mention of the video from the agents on the ground. Greg Hicks—one of the last people to talk to Chris Stevens before he died—said there was virtually no discussion about the video in Libya leading up to the attacks. [pg. 28]

•The morning after the attacks, the National Security Council’s Deputy Spokesperson sent an email to nearly two dozen people from the White House, Defense Department, State Department, and intelligence community, stating: “Both the President and Secretary Clinton released statements this morning. … Please refer to those for any comments for the time being. To ensure we are all in sync on messaging for the rest of the day, Ben Rhodes will host a conference call for USG communicators on this chain at 9:15 ET today.” [pg. 39]

•Minutes before the President delivered his speech in the Rose Garden, Jake Sullivan wrote in an email to Ben Rhodes and others: “There was not really much violence in Egypt. And we are not saying that the violence in Libya erupted ‘over inflammatory videos.’” [pg. 44]

•According to Susan Rice, both Ben Rhodes and David Plouffe prepared her for her appearances on the Sunday morning talk shows following the attacks. Nobody from the FBI, Department of Defense, or CIA participated in her prep call. While Rhodes testified Plouffe would “normally” appear on the Sunday show prep calls, Rice testified she did not recall Plouffe being on prior calls and did not understand why he was on the call in this instance. [pg.98]

•On the Sunday shows, Susan Rice stated the FBI had “already begun looking at all sorts of evidence” and “FBI has a lead in this investigation.” But on Monday, the Deputy Director, Office of Maghreb Affairs sent an email stating: “McDonough apparently told the SVTS [Secure Video Teleconference] group today that everyone was required to ‘shut their pieholes’ about the Benghazi attack in light of the FBI investigation, due to start tomorrow.” [pg. 135]

•After Susan Rice’s Sunday show appearances, Jake Sullivan assured the Secretary of the State that Rice “wasn’t asked about whether we had any intel. But she did make clear our view that this started spontaneously and then evolved.” [pg. 128]

•Susan Rice’s comments on the Sunday talk shows were met with shock and disbelief by State Department employees in Washington. The Senior Libya Desk Officer, Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, State Department, wrote: “I think Rice was off the reservation on this one.” The Deputy Director, Office of Press and Public Diplomacy, Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, State Department, responded: “Off the reservation on five networks!” The Senior Advisor for Strategic Communications, Bureau of Near East Affairs, State Department, wrote: “WH [White House] very worried about the politics. This was all their doing.” [pg. 132]

•The CIA’s September 13, 2012, intelligence assessment was rife with errors. On the first page, there is a single mention of “the early stages of the protest” buried in one of the bullet points. The article cited to support the mention of a protest in this instance was actually from September 4. In other words, the analysts used an article from a full week before the attacks to support the premise that a protest had occurred just prior to the attack on September 11. [pg. 47]

•A headline on the following page of the CIA’s September 13 intelligence assessment stated “Extremists Capitalized on Benghazi Protests,” but nothing in the actual text box supports that title. As it turns out, the title of the text box was supposed to be “Extremists Capitalized on Cairo Protests.” That small but vital difference—from Cairo to Benghazi—had major implications in how people in the administration were able to message the attacks. [pg. 52]
