UPDATE: Investigators have warned police to be on the lookout for a "darker-skinned or black male" with a possible foreign accent in connection with Monday's bombings at the Boston Marathon, according to a law enforcement advisory obtained by CNN. The man was seen with a black backpack and sweatshirt and was trying to get into a restricted area about five minutes before the first explosion, the lookout notice states.

Lelisa Desisa, Rita Jeptoo win Boston Marathon
Elite races end before explosions

BOSTON (AP) Ethiopia's Lelisa Desisa and Kenya's Rita Jeptoo took the elite titles Monday in the 117th edition of the Boston Marathon, their moments of triumph providing no clue to the chaos and horror to follow later in the day.

About two hours after the winners crossed the line, there was a loud explosion on the north side of Boylston Street, just before the photo bridge that marks the finish line. Another explosion could be heard a few seconds later.

The Boston Marathon said that bombs caused the two explosions and that organizers were working with authorities to determine what happened. The Boston Police Department said two people were killed and 23 others injured.

Desisa won a three-way sprint down Boylston Street to finish in 2 hours, 10 minutes, 22 seconds and snap a string of three consecutive Kenyan victories. "Here we have a relative newcomer," said Ethiopia's Gebregziabher Gebremariam, who finished third. "Everything changes."

In only his second race at the 26.2-mile distance, Desisa finished 5 seconds ahead of Kenya's Micah Kogo to earn $150,000 and the traditional olive wreath. American Jason Hartmann finished fourth for the second year in a row.

Jeptoo won the women's race for the second time. Jeptoo, who also won in 2006, finished in 2:26:25 for her first victory in a major race since taking two years off after having a baby.

After a series of close finishes in the women's race - five consecutive years with 3 seconds or less separating the top two - Jeptoo had a relatively comfortable 33-second margin over Meseret Hailu of Ethiopia. Defending champion Sharon Cherop of Kenya was another 3 seconds back.

Shalane Flanagan, of nearby Marblehead, was fourth in the women's division in her attempt to earn the first American victory in Boston since 1985. (Two-time winner Joan Benoit Samuelson, running on the 30th anniversary of her 1983 victory, finished in 2:50:29 to set a world record for her age group.)

Desisa, 23, was among a group of nine men - all from Kenya or Ethiopia - who broke away from the pack in the first half of the race. There were three remaining when they came out of Kenmore Square with a mile to go. But Desisa quickly pulled away and widened his distance in the sprint to the tape. It's Desisa's second victory in as many marathons, having won in Dubai in January in 2:04:45.

Temperatures in the high 40s greeted the field of 24,662 at the start in Hopkinton. It climbed to 54 degrees by the time the winners reached Copley Square in Boston, not far from the site of the explosions.

Race day got started with 26 seconds of silence in honor of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. A little more than 2 hours later, the lead runners passed the Mile 26 marker, which was decorated with the Newtown, Conn., seal and dedicated to the memory of those killed there.

In another shameful display of utter ignorance and desperation to cover over what will obviously be shown to be a Muslim Jihadist orchestrated bombing, CNN “national security” analyst peter Bergen spewed forth the same kind of non-sense that occurs when things like the explosions at the Boston Marathon take place. He told CNN anchor Jake Tapper that is could be “right-wing extremists.”

“I’m reminded of Oklahoma City, which was a bombing, which was initially treated as a gas explosion. First reports are often erroneous,” he said.

“Once the device — if it a device — is found;” he continued, “what kind of explosives were used. So for instance, if it was hydrogen peroxide, this is a signature of al Qaeda. If it was more conventional explosives, which are much harder to get hold of now — that might be some other kind of right-wing extremist. … We’ve also seen, for instance, right-wing groups trying to attack the Martin Luther King parade in Oregon in 2010.”

I completely disagree with Bergen about even talking “right-wing extremists,” just like I disagreed with Nida Khan of the Huffington Post who tweeted:

I simply pose that the one thought that should come to Americans’ minds is not “anti-government” groups, whatever that is or “right-wing extremists” but our minds should instantly think Islamic Jihadists. To reference Timothy McVeigh seems ridiculous. There is so much coverup in the Oklahoma City bombing it’s unreal. But more to the point, whether Americans are going to wake up or not, we are at war with Islam, spiritually, politically and by means of their violence.

Why is it that after the Aurora shooting that the Tea Party was fingered? Why is it that the first reaction is not Jihadists? While Bergen did make reference to al-Qaeda, it seems clear that his first thought was to Timothy McVeigh, not towards Islam.

That is true to a certain extent; however, there are things that tend to exacerbate the possibility of a terrorist attack. For example, a free-flow of people across our southern border. And the silent immigration of Muslims into this country. The Obama administration would never reveal how many Muslims are flowing into this country. On Friday the story of a serial mass murderer who'd been protected by government and hidden by media, finally started to break, will Monday's bombing be sufficient to re bury it? We're facing an unprecedented financial crisis and along comes Sandy Hook like a flag distracting the bull and media saturates us with gibberish about gun control.

Mick was right about the devil, people who seek power end up working for him. We are no longer governed by law but by men. Supreme court rulings have little to do with the original intent and the war to free the slaves didn't free them, it enslaved everyone.

After this horrible incident, to be consistent, the knee jerk left needs to pass a law requiring background checks for back pack purchasers. And they should require cameras to be placed in everyone's homes so police can stop people from making bombs.

Boston Grieves for Martin Richard, 8-Year-Old Killed, and His 'Beloved' Family

The bombings in Boston on Monday took an unimaginable toll on one of the Dorchester neighborhood's most beloved families – taking the life of 8-year-old Martin Richard and seriously wounding his mother and sister. Martin died from his injuries. His sister Jane, 7, lost a leg, while their mother Denise had surgery for a brain injury, WHDH reported. A third child, an older son, was reportedly not injured.

The family had gathered in Copley Square to cheer on father Bill, a community leader in the Ashmont section of Dorchester, who was running the iconic race.

Friends of the Richard family gathered Monday night at Tavolo Restaurant, just down the street from Peabody Square, to grieve, according to the Boston Globe. http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/201...VsL/story.html

"They are beloved by this community," said Ayanna Pressley, a city councilor at large. "They contribute in many ways. That's why you see this outpouring. It's surreal. It's tragic."

A single candle was lit in front of the family's home, and the word "Peace" was written on the sidewalk in front of it, WHDH said.

The local Dorchester Reporter newspaper said both Bill and Denise Richard were respected as civic leaders in the area.

Bill helped to lead the transformation of Peabody Square over the past decade. The family is said to be deeply involved in Dorchester life, from kids' baseball and soccer to their church, St. Ann's parish in Neponset.

More than 100 people were wounded in the attacks, many of them critically. A massive investigation is underway, under the direction of the FBI.

I’ve hesitated to comment on yesterday’s Boston terror attack. Much of what could be said right now would be either obvious, or premature.

In the ‘obvious’ category: To attack masses of ordinary people trying to do something happy is singularly evil. (Some call it ‘cowardly’; but that’s not enough: It’s human evil.) Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.

As to ‘premature’, I haven’t seen much real info yet on the identity or motives of the perpetrators. But hey, if you have seen something (or, as we get more news), please feel free to post it in the comments. Ditto for patterns in the Obama administration’s response.

As to patterns in the media coverage, it does seem as though some of the usual suspects want to wrongly insinuate the patriotic Right being at fault; but even there, the pattern (if any) is still forming.

As to the Gosnell trial and its possible impacts, here are a few items of interest:

•The lamestream media has finally been forced to send reporters to the trial.

•Other unsafe/unsanitary abortion clinics are coming to light. (I thought these clinics were supposed to be better than back alleys?)

•LauraW (at Ace) puts her finger on why this matter is so sensitive for the pro-abortion Left: “As long as the belief persists among most reasonable people that the child has not been formed yet, and will not suffer, they will tolerate [abortion]…However, as soon as they understand that big, live, squealing babies are being murdered in abortion facilities, the spell is broken.”
