    Major anti-gun senator shoots intruder

    Thursday January 10, 2013, 3:51 pm

    State Senator R.C. Soles (D – NC)
Long time Anti-Gun Advocate State Senator R.C. Soles, 74, shot one of two intruders at his home just outside Tabor City , N.C. about 5 p.m. Sunday, the prosecutor for the politician’s home county said.

The intruder, Kyle Blackburn, was taken to a South Carolina hospital, but the injuries were not reported to be life-threatening, according to Rex Gore, district attorney for Columbus, Bladen andBrunswick counties..

The State Bureau of Investigation and Columbus County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the shooting, Gore said. Soles, who was not arrested, declined to discuss the incident Sunday evening. “I am not in a position to talk to you,” Soles said by telephone. “I’m right in the middle of an investigation.”

The Senator, who has made a career of being against gun ownership for the general public, didn’t hesitate to defend himself with his own gun when he believed he was in immediate danger and he was the victim.

In typical hypocritical liberal fashion, the “Do as i say and not as i do” Anti-Gun Activist Lawmaker picked up his gun and took action in what apparently was a self-defense shooting. Why hypocritical you may ask? It is because his long legislative record shows that the actions that he took to protect his family, his own response to a dangerous life threatening situation, are actions that he feels ordinary citizens should not have if they were faced with an identical situation.

It has prompted some to ask if the Senator believes his life and personal safety is more valuable than yours or mine.

NYTimes coming up new categories of people who should be barred from Second Amendment
    [Darleen Click]

    Alcoholics and misdemeanor ‘violence’ http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/24/op...anted=all&_r=0

But a focus on mass murder, while critical, does not get at the broader issue of gun violence, including the hundreds of single-victim murders, suicides, nonfatal shootings and other gun crimes that occur daily in the United States. And focusing on the mentally ill, most of whom are not violent, overlooks people who are at demonstrably increased risk of committing violent crimes but are not barred by federal law from buying and having guns.

These would include people who have been convicted of violent misdemeanors including assaults, and those who are alcohol abusers. Unless guns are also kept from these high-risk people, preventable gun violence will continue. [...]

President Obama has instructed the Justice Department to review the federal prohibitions on gun ownership and to make legislative and executive recommendations “to ensure dangerous people aren’t slipping through the cracks.” The answers are already out there.
One of the main things I object to, in this rush to find all sorts of people “unqualified” to own a firearm, is the mercenary use of suicide to inflate statistics of “gun violence.”

Certainly, suicide is tragic and in its wake it leaves devastated family and friends; however it doesn’t belong in any discussion about violence directed towards others.

    http://proteinwisdom.com/?p=47566

Part of a letter I’m putting together to email to my Congressman and Senators though the Senators are both very liberal Democrats.

“Of all the reasons to deny someone ownership of a firearm the mental health one seems on the surface to be one of the most reasonable. It is however one of the most slippery to define. Having a felony conviction or having been adjudicated as being mentally unstable are things which can be determined to be factual or not. But those cases are not what the proposals I’ve heard of are about. They are setting up a much more nebulous, arbitrary system of what mental states/conditions should lead to denial of firearm ownership. A system which could, and likely would, be bent and abused to the point that connections and/or political clout would be important factors in any determination. This cannot be allowed to happen.

With the PPACA coming into full effect in 2014 who knows what will be determined by bureaucratic action or executive order to be a mental defect that would prohibit someone from firearm ownership. Making the exercise of a Constitutional right subject to the whim of a bureaucrat would be an outrageous abuse of due process. “

    ...

Barack Obama will do whatever it takes to get at gun owners. He took a beating from his far-Left base the past four years for holding back, but quietly he was assembling his responses to whatever ‘lucky break’ might happen that would allow his machinations to commence. These political reactions, none of which were unexpected, are energized by the pent up rage he’s finally unleashing against those of us who kept him ‘caged’ for those four years.

I’m glad I’m not a conspiracy theorist, or I’d have to question the timing of these ‘lucky breaks’.

On Friday, liberal lawmakers in the Colorado state House passed legislation requiring background checks on private gun sales and placing limits on ammo magazines. A final vote may come today before the bills move on to the state Senate. Dems now hold majorities in both chambers and the governor’s mansion is occupied by Democrat John Hickenlooper.

Beretta’s future in Maryland tied to state’s gun-control debate
By Aaron C. Davis, Published: February 23, 2013

On the production floor of Beretta USA sits a hulking new barrel-making machine ready to churn out the next object of obsession in America’s love-hate relationship with guns: a civilian version of a machine gun designed for special operations forces and popularized in the video game Call of Duty.

Beretta, the nearly 500-year-old family-owned company that made one of James Bond’s firearms, has already invested more than $1 million in the machine and has planned to expand its plant further in Prince George’s County to ramp up production.

But under an assault-weapons ban that advanced late last week in the Maryland General Assembly, experts say the gun would be illegal in the state where it is produced.

Now Beretta is weighing whether the rifle line, and perhaps the company itself, should stay in a place increasingly hostile toward its products. Its iconic 9mm pistol — carried by every U.S. soldier and scores of police departments — would also be banned with its high capacity, 13-bullet magazine.

“Why expand in a place where the people who built the gun couldn’t buy it?” said Jeffrey Reh, general counsel for Beretta.

Concern that the company will leave, and take its 300 jobs with it, is palpable among state lawmakers who worry it could be collateral damage from Gov. Martin O’Malley’s proposed gun-control bill.

Among other restrictions, O’Malley’s bill would ban assault rifles, magazines with more than 10 bullets and any new guns with two or more “military-like” features. Gun experts said it’s a near-certainty that Beretta’s semiautomatic version of the ARX-160, now only a prototype, would be banned under O’Malley’s bill.

“I’m concerned. I think they’re going to move,” said Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. (D-Calvert). “They sell guns across the world and in every state in the union — to places a lot more friendly to the company than this state.”

In Beretta’s low-slung factory along the Potomac River in Accokeek, where walls are lined with trophy heads of caribou, wild boars and black bears shot by employees, the legislation proposed by O’Malley (D) feels like an affront.

In testimony this month in Annapolis, Reh, who oversees the plant, warned lawmakers to consider carefully the company’s future. Reh pointed to the last time Maryland ratcheted up gun restrictions in the 1990s: Beretta responded by moving its warehouse operation to Virginia.

“I think they thought we were bluffing” in the 1990s, Reh said. “But Berettas don’t bluff.”

    Growth of a company

The small U.S. division that Beretta started 35 years ago in Prince George’s has added substantial swagger to a company that already billed itself as the “World’s Oldest Industrial Dynasty.”

From behind the modest brick facade of an abandoned gun plant it purchased in 1977 on Indian Head Highway, Beretta won a landmark contract to become the standard sidearm of all U.S. military personnel in 1985. To the chagrin of American competitors, it soon replaced the venerable Colt 45.

More than a half-million of the company’s guns have been shipped to the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines, each stamped as made in Accokeek.

NRA Uncovers DOJ Gun Memo, AP Not Pleased

    Posted on February 26, 2013

Listen to this. This is from the AP, and they’re mad about this. The NRA has found a Justice Department memo, and they are using it to accuse the Obama administration of wanting to commandeer your guns. They are furious here in this AP story.

“The National Rifle Association is using a Justice Department memo it obtained to argue in ads that the Obama [regime] believes its gun control plans won’t work unless the government seizes firearms and requires national gun registration…” Now, when everybody makes that accusation, what happens? If you, for example, say, “The regime wants to take your guns,” there are catcalls of protest, howls of protest, and you are accused of being a conspiracy kook.

They say, “Nobody’s ever suggested that! What are you talking about? Nobody wants to take your guns!” I think it’s even happened to me. What happened is, the NRA managed to get their hands on a DOJ (Department of Justice) memo that undercuts all of these claims that the regime does not want to get hold of your guns. The AP makes it clear that the only way Obama will get what he wants is through registration and eventually banning guns. That’s what the memo says.

The NRA has found it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=jHmxY7zE5uc

The AP is furious at the NRA for having found the memo and using it now. The AP even says, quote, "The NRA's assertion and its obtaining of the memo in the first place underscore the no-holds-barred battle under way as Washington's fight over gun restrictions heats up." Now, isn't this what American journalists used to do before the work began to exclusively represent the Democrat Party?

It used to be that if memos like this existed, if there were a secret memo that basically said the purpose of gun registration was to eventually be able to ban them, if there was such a memo, wouldn't the media be the ones to find that memo, and wouldn't the media win a Pulitzer for doing so? Speaking truth to power and all of that gibberish.

Well, now it don't work that way anymore. The media helps regimes hide such memos. The NRA got its hand on the memo and now the NRA is the bad guy. The AP is outraged that this crime researcher had the temerity to question Obama on his gun proposals. And never mind that this crime researcher at the NRA is actually the acting director of the National Institute of Justice. That's the Department of Justice research arm. He had previously been with the Rand corporation. He studied criminal justice issues. He's got a PhD in statistics. This guy found the memo.

The AP is essentially saying, "Who the hell is this guy to question Obama's expertise on guns? Who is this guy to question Obama's expertise on crime?" Because Obama's the expert in everything. He's the expert on health care. He's the expert on jobs. He's the expert on drugs. He's the expert manufacturing and selling them. He's the expert on everything. Nobody in any of these industries knows anything compared to what Obama knows. And nobody in these industries cares as much as Obama does. He's the expert on health care. He's the expert on health insurance. He's the expert on hospitals and how to run them. He's the expert in determining who should get treated medically and who shouldn't be.

The point is the NRA has this crime researcher that found this memo, and the memo undercuts all of Obama's claims. The memo makes it clear that the only way the government will get what they want is through registration and eventually banning guns. It's a memo that spells out current policy about guns and the policy is X. And what the memo points out is the only way to get to X is to take people's guns from them. You start by registering every damn one of them. It's one of these internal memos, government bureaucrat says, "Look, we eventually want to make having a gun illegal, how do we do it with the Second Amendment?"

So a bunch of guys start writing a memo. "Okay, if that's really what you want to do, here's how you would have to do it given the Constitution, the Second Amendment." That's what was found. It's a theoretical memo. It's not a policy memo yet. It's a theoretical memo, somebody asked to put together a policy, and what the memo makes clear is that the only way that Obama can get what he wants or that the government can get what they want regarding guns is massive, full-fledged registration and the eventual banning of guns.

I want to be very clear about this. Nobody has proposed banning guns. What has happened is somebody at the regime said to somebody else, "What do we have to do to get to point A or X?" And so these big thinkers accept the assignment, they look at it and they say, "If you really want to get to X, the only way you can get there, to have that policy, is total registration, but you're eventually gonna have to ban guns. It's the only way you can effect what you want, is to ban guns." That is what's been discovered. And that's what the NRA is using. And the NRA's being very careful. They're not accusing anybody of having this policy. All they're saying is that there exists a memo explaining, "If that's your objective, this is how you do it," not that they've put anything in a motion yet.

This undercuts the idea, you know, when the regime says, "We're not even thinking about banning guns." They are thinking about it. That's about all they're doing, but it is something that is in a memo under consideration, maybe seriously, unseriously, but the point is, it's being thought about. And the AP is furious that the NRA found the memo, because, according to the AP, they're misusing it, they're stating it's applicable in ways that it isn't, and that's not what the NRA is doing. The NRA is simply doing what I just did. The NRA is pointing out, "Hey, look, there's some people in government who are tinkering with how to get to point A on a policy, and here's what they would have to do to do it."

"A Justice Department official called the memo an unfinished review of gun violence research and said it does not represent administration policy." I'm sure it doesn't yet. "The memo says requiring background checks for more gun purchases could help, but also could lead to more illicit weapons sales. It says banning assault weapons and high capacity ammunition magazines produced in the future but exempting those already owned by the public, as Obama has proposed, would have limited impact because people now own so many of those items."

So they're coming up with ways around that. It would be like if John F. Kennedy says, "I need to get to the moon in ten years," so a bunch of people at NASA put together the plan. "This is what we would have to do." That's all that's happened. Don't anybody misunderstand. The point is the memo exists. The AP tried to suppress it along with the rest of the media. The NRA's hated and reviled, found it, and so now the NRA is the problem, not the regime.

AZ Gov Says Drug Cartels Ready to Cross into US Because Borders Not Secure

The four southwestern states that border Mexico have been experiencing the flood of illegal immigration and drug trafficking. Millions of illegal aliens pour over the border that at times looks like shoppers on Black Friday.

When President Obama stopped enforcing the federal immigration laws, some of the states felt they had to take action into their own hands. One such state was Arizona, which passed SB 70 in an effort to crack down on illegals and illegal drugs crossing into the state. The law was challenged and went all the way to the US Supreme Court, where they upheld most of the law, but did strike down part of it.

Since then, the federal government has done virtually nothing to secure our international border with Mexico. Ranchers and citizens along the border are constantly reporting the dangers of living in the area. Some ranchers say that they encounter illegals almost on a daily basis and a number of them are armed and dangerous. Many homes have been burglarized and cattle have been poached. Tons of littler have been left behind by the flood if illegals crossing into the country.

Being concerned for the safety of her state and citizens, Gov. Jan Brewer recently took a tour of the Arizona-Mexico border and saw for herself the dangers of an unsecured border. In a news interview, she said: http://www.newsmax.com/US/Arizona-Br...o_code=128E5-1

“I was just down there last week.”

“I was with the National Guard. I was in a Blackhawk. I saw them on the other side, the drug cartels, ready to come across in the middle of the night. It is not secure.”

“The ranchers will tell you, if you sit down and talk to them, that they’re fearful, that the border patrol is too far north.”

“They need to get closer to the border because they let them go so far, and then they just sort of blend in, and they’re destroying their land and destroying their cattle, they’re destroying their water.”

“They’re frustrated. And I believe that until the ranchers, law enforcement, is satisfied and they tell us that this border is secured, there’s not going to be a whole lot of movement.”
And what is Obama’s response? Let’s give the illegals a path to citizenship. He is doing nothing to stop the flow of drugs and illegals. When the states try to take action because Obama won’t, he takes them to court to block their efforts to secure their borders and protect US citizens. Brewer believes that any form of immigration reform will stall until the border problem is first resolved.

In all honesty, Obama’s flagrant disregard for US law and national security borders on treason. Instead of deporting the millions of illegals, he is giving aide to them, which according to Article 3, Section 3 of the US Constitution:

“Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”
Obama is giving aid and comfort to not only millions of illegal aliens, but also to the drug cartels that are crossing the border on a daily basis. His failure to secure the border, knowing that this illegal trafficking is occurring on a daily basis, is rendering aid and comfort to an enemy.

I truly believe that Gov. Jan Brewer and AZ Attorney General Tom Horne should file charges of treason against President Obama and US Attorney General Eric Holder for failing to uphold US immigration laws and failure to secure our international borders. I suspect it will take this type of drastic action to get Congress to take action against them.

When I first heard about Joe Biden’s response to a question about home defense, I said, “What?” As it turns out, I wasn’t alone in my shock over the extremely dangerous advice given by Biden as an alternative to owning an AR-15 or a high-capacity magazine for any other semiautomatic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=Kj1GaX_-E-E

If you follow the Vice President’s advice here, you may well find yourself in prison for negligent homicide, as US News explains: http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/...-biden-in-jail

Before we get to Steven Nelson’s analysis of the “the worst type of advice,” Allahpundit made a point about the weapon choice:

A shotgun is a good choice for home defense, but not the double-barreled type, unless you’re fortunate to only have one threat in front of you. It takes too much time to open the weapon, pull out the spent shells, and reload, especially when frightened and stressed. A pump-action shotgun is a much better choice because (a) it holds more rounds in case there is more than one threat, and (b) no one can possibly mistake the cha-chunk of a pump loading the shell. A shotgun is easier to aim because you don’t need as much precision to hit the target, as you would with an AR-15 and especially a pistol under stress. If you get close, you’ll probably score a hit.

The rest, however, is nonsense — and dangerous nonsense, seemingly taken from TV shows rather than any sort of instruction on firearms use. Anyone who has gone through a firearms safety course knows this basic rule: Never fire a “warning shot” into the air — especially when it means you have to reload immediately, as you would with two blasts from a double-barreled shotgun; you’ve just effectively disarmed yourself.

But more to the point, it ignores the physics of the ammunition. What goes up must come down, and when it does, it can kill — and often does:

It also ignores another key legal fact that people who study to carry weapons learn immediately, which is that one cannot use deadly force to protect property. Self-defense in homicides only apply when there is a reasonable belief that one’s life is in imminent danger (or that of another):

    Besides, it’s also tactically stupid:

If Biden doesn’t have the common sense to understand any of the above, let alone all of the above, why should anyone trust his efforts to rewrite gun laws that limit our legal rights to self-defense?

    http://hotair.com/archives/2013/02/2...-you-arrested/
VP Joe Biden lectured women everywhere the other day to just get a double barrel shotgun for their home protection. He patronizingly stated that it was easier to handle and was therefore far superior to the AR-15. Once again, ol' Joe didn't disappoint, taking his idiocy (yeah, I said it) to a new level. Watch. Learn. Laugh.

Joe Biden’s shotgun self-defense clinic, part III
    By Doug Powers • February 28, 2013 10:16 AM

Lesson #1: If you want to keep people away, buy some shotgun shells. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=wcxVovpJdi8 http://www.nydailynews.com/news/poli...icle-1.1246228 http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/...medium=twitter

Lesson #2: If intruders are coming, walk outside onto the balcony and fire two blasts into the air. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/...91J03720130220

And now, lesson #3: If you can’t make it outside to fire the warning shots, just blast through the closed door: http://www.fieldandstream.com/articl...iden-interview

Well, the way in which we measure it is—I think most scholars would say—is that as long as you have a weapon sufficient to be able to provide your self-defense,” Biden said. “I did one of these town-hall meetings on the Internet and one guy said, “Well, what happens when the end days come? What happens when there’s the earthquake? I live in California, and I have to protect myself.”

I said, “Well, you know, my shotgun will do better for you than your AR-15, because you want to keep someone away from your house, just fire the shotgun through the door.” Most people can handle a shotgun a hell of a lot better than they can a semiautomatic weapon in terms of both their aim and in terms of their ability to deter people coming. We can argue whether that’s true or not, but it is no argument that, for example, a shotgun could do the same job of protecting you. Now, granted, you can come back and say, “Well, a machine gun could do a better job of protecting me.” No one’s arguing we should make machine guns legal.

This would explain why Joe’s mailman is so jumpy. And the local Girl Scout cookie sales force. And the paperboy.

Lesson #1: If you want to keep people away, buy some shotgun shells. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=wcxVovpJdi8 http://www.nydailynews.com/news/poli...icle-1.1246228 http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/...medium=twitter

Lesson #2: If intruders are coming, walk outside onto the balcony and fire two blasts into the air. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/...91J03720130220

And now, lesson #3: If you can’t make it outside to fire the warning shots, just blast through the closed door: http://www.fieldandstream.com/articl...iden-interview

This would explain why Joe’s mailman is so jumpy. And the local Girl Scout cookie sales force. And the paperboy.

We must keep guns out of our schools, even if they’re made of pastry or pixels
    6:31 PM 03/04/2013

We already know how dangerous it is to allow our children to bring bubble-guns and index fingers into the classroom. It seems like every week there’s a new, approximately gun-shaped object that’s putting our children at risk by being very clearly unable to fire projectiles of any kind.

Eric Owens reports on a new one: http://dailycaller.com/2013/03/02/se...ed-like-a-gun/ Video http://www.wtvynews4.com/video/?auto...clipId=8545799

Yet another student has been suspended for having something that represents a gun, but isn’t actually anything like a real gun.

This time, it was a breakfast pastry.

Josh Welch, a second-grader at Park Elementary School in Baltimore, Maryland, was suspended for two days because his teacher thought he shaped the strawberry, pre-baked toaster pastry into something resembling a gun. WBFF, the FOX affiliate in Baltimore, broke the story.

Okay, I’d have been on the kid’s side if he’d merely fashioned a facsimile of a deadly weapon out of a Pop Tart. But then he went too far and made a death threat: “Bang bang.” Wrong move, son. Throw the book at this thug. Just save a lot of time and trouble by putting him in jail right now. He’s obviously a murderer-in-waiting.

Speaking of future criminals, check out this other prospective hoodlum. Erica Blitz at The Blaze reports: http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013...gun-at-school/

Actor, entrepreneur, and writer Joseph C. Phillips, best known for his roles as Martin Kendall on “The Cosby Show” and Justus Ward on “General Hospital,” says his son’s school threatened police action after the student showed his friends a picture of his new BB gun. They also reportedly questioned his “mental state.”

Phillips explained for radio host Tony Katz on Saturday that California social studies teacher James DeLarme was walking by when he saw Phillips’ son and his friends looking at the picture…

The teacher “snatched” the camera out of his hands, and when the teen asked when he would get it back, the teacher reportedly responded: “That’s for the police to decide.”
If pictures of BB guns are outlawed… good!

It’s not about what makes sense. It’s about indoctrinating kids. You have to intimidate innocent children as early as possible, or else they might grow up and realize that their rights don’t go away when somebody else abuses his rights.

If your kid’s school allows gum, you need to talk to the principal. Somebody might mispronounce it.
