Side note : why would the CDC do a study of this nature? CDC studies diseases and their effects on the public.
..
And now the proposed US Surgeon General, if confirmed, will carry on the political fight. He's 36 or 37 (I think). Since he's got less than 10 years as a Public Health MD it is clear that his nomination has more to do with his political contributions and his loud anti-gun stance. We need an experienced doc in that role, not someone nominated because he's an anti-gunner with money.Laissez les bon temps rouler! How to Understand Georgia's 'Guns Everywhere' Law: Four Blunt Points
By Paul M. Barrett March 25, 2014
Georgia appears poised to enact a so-called guns-everywhere law, making it easier for firearm permit holders to take their weapons into bars, churches, and even airports. Approved last week by the state legislature, the bill awaits the signature of Republican Governor Nathan Deal, a strong gun-rights advocate up for reelection this fall. His opponent, Jason Carter, a Democratic state senator and grandson of former President Jimmy Carter, voted for the legislation, so enactment seems assured.
Non-gun owners doubtless find all this baffling. Here are four blunt points to sort out what’s going on and how to respond:
1. The Newtown school massacre led to “guns everywhere.”
Perverse as it may sound, the horrific mass shooting in December 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary produced a burst of state-level gun control bills around the country and then triggered a much stronger pro-gun backlash. The counter-reaction has now reached its apogee in Georgia. In the past year alone, 21 states have enacted laws expanding gun rights, according to the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. Several states added piecemeal provisions allowing firearms on college campuses or in bars or churches. Georgia’s politicians, egged on by the National Rifle Association, have gone for broke.
2. Georgia illustrates the NRA’s structural advantage on gun control.
As if we needed a fresh demonstration of this phenomenon, the gun-rights lobby currently enjoys a fundamental edge in the debate about regulating firearms. In an era of falling crime rates, liberal enthusiasm for gun control simply doesn’t pack much political punch outside certain blue-state environments. Yes, people get riled up, understandably, by mass shootings at schools or movie theaters. Over and over, we’ve seen those emotions fade quickly, giving way to a more sustained counter-reaction from the pro-gun side. The NRA has skillfully responded to calls for stricter gun control by portraying them as evidence that liberals’ real agenda is confiscating firearms—all firearms.
A cadre of highly motivated, well organized pro-gun voters believe the NRA scare tactics and rally behind ever-more-aggressive measures to expand gun rights. Thus, we now have concealed-carry laws in all 50 states. We have traditional self-defense laws replaced by stand-your-ground—and in Georgia, guns everywhere. Even those who deplore these developments at some point must acknowledge the pattern. At present (and maybe always), the intensity of pro-gun passion exceeds that of anti-gun passion.
3. Skeptics of expansive gun rights need to respond intelligently.
The smart response is not scorn or exaggeration. For better or worse, gun ownership has come to symbolize a range of deeply felt ideas about culture and government authority. Making fun of people who view their firearms as emblems of liberty and traditional values (however they define those values) will neither change minds nor repeal legislation.
Exaggerating the practical effects of gun-rights legislation doesn’t make sense, either. The Georgia measure allows guns in bars and churches under certain circumstances. Saloon owners who don’t want weapons in their establishments would have to post a sign saying so. That doesn’t sound so onerous; a lot of bars in pro-gun precincts already have such signs. Worshipers in Georgia wouldn’t be allowed to pack heat unless their congregation affirmatively votes to “opt in” to the guns-everywhere law. Personally, I wouldn’t choose a synagogue whose congregants thought they needed Glocks to celebrate the sabbath. But that’s me. If someone else’s congregation feels safer knowing that people are armed, I say: Let them go with God. I doubt that enactment of Georgia’s law will lead to a rash of shoot-outs. If it does, Georgians can reassess.
4. The best response to gun-rights extremism is a focus on fighting crime.
Rather than engage with the NRA on the cultural battlefield, where gun-rights advocates have the upper hand, liberals should focus on the most-pressing problem related to firearms—that their prevalence in American society makes our violent crime more lethal. Broadly speaking, this approach would have liberals emphasize more aggressive enforcement of existing laws against illegal gun possession, rather than obsess about situations that allow law-abiding citizens to own guns and carry them on their person. Still speaking broadly, the anti-crime approach would have liberals ask how the extraordinary successes in reducing violent crime in places like New York—where gun control laws have not changed for decades—can be replicated elsewhere.
http://www.businessweek.com/articles...r-blunt-points
I think this is half of what gun owners have wanted liberals to do all along. enforce laws, stop blaming the tool for the crime, keep guns out of the hands of criminals and mentally ill. stop banning guns because you think they look scary.
..
Background checks will do nothing but provide a list to the government of EVERY gun owner out there. Are you really telling me that if we keep a registry, guns won't be sold on street corners anymore?
...
Well we have it now in Connecticut, register the guns, Step one, Step two surrender the guns or destroy them. Step 3 The Goose step. Those in favor of gun control, raise your right arm. Sieg Heil !
..
I think our Founding Fathers also realized back then that it was up to the individual to take care of himself because government can and will not be able to take car of you.
...
Nor can they today, as evidenced by many cases were the police have no obligation to "serve and protect" or if you live in an area where it may take the police more than a few minutes for them to get to you, in an emergency situation you need to be at least able to fight back.Laissez les bon temps rouler! CA Democrat Arrested For Allegedly Conspiring To Sell Guns, Missile Launchers To Muslim Rebels
12 hours ago
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrtbc...layer_embedded
Democratic California state Senator Leland Yee will become the poster boy for the most hypocritical leftist gun control advocacy after being arrested Wednesday night for allegedly trafficking in… you guessed it! Guns!
Not just any guns, mind you – he is being accused of looking into supplying assault weapons and shoulder-launched missiles to rebel Muslims.
Yes. Really: http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/201...-federal-case/
On Page 84 of a federal criminal complaint, the undercover agent “UCE 4599″ describes a conversation with Senator Leland Yee and political consultant Keith Jackson and about sales of guns, assault weapons, and even shoulder-launched missiles to support Muslim rebels fighting the government in the Philippines.
From the LA Times: http://www.latimes.com/local/la-me-y...,3801978.story
The organized crime figure known as Shrimp Boy, whose name is Raymond Chow, identifies himself as the “dragon head” of that Freemason organization on his Facebook page. The indictment says that Chow, 54, whose criminal history includes racketeering and robbery, has a position of “supreme authority” in the Triad, an international organized crime group.
…The federal complaint reads like a bad crime novel with off-the-books firearms deals made in parking lots and confessions whispered in a booth at a karaoke bar. Chow is described as a “judge” in his organization — if one member of the group kills another, it’s up to Chow to determine whether the killing was justified.

Can you taste the hypocrisy?
Here’s a pretty amazing tweet from his gun ban advocacy:
Certain members of the media have already been trying to downplay the incredible charges, so don’t expect to see the story developed too much in the mainstream media. We’ll have up to date developments as soon as possible.

He didn't do any thing different than what Eric Holder did in "Fast n Furious" (selling guns and weapons to the Drug Cartel). He just didn't have the President on his side (E.O.) to stop the investigation....you can stop and think that the Democrats are the biggest illegal gun runners in this country but yet they demonze the law-bidding citizens to having guns and to take them away.....hypocrites all of them....P.S. this Yee was trying to silence or take Rush L. off the air....Karma...LOL
,,
Can you say treason?
,,
Criminals are for gun control so that they don't have to worry about their victims shooting back.
..
He should not have been able to run in the first place...
"The indictment says that Chow, 54, whose criminal history includes racketeering and robbery, has a position of “supreme authority” in the Triad, an international organized crime group."
All of this and it is yet to make the main stream media web pages, gee I wonder why! No azz covering by the concerned parties going on is there? "I am sure MSNBC and CNN will be following this story diligently"...says absolutely no one.Laissez les bon temps rouler! ASSAULT VEHICLE
It's black. It's scary looking.
It was clearly designed to KILL innocent people
by enabling its driver to exceed the speed limit
by over 100 miles per hour.
32,367 People were killed
on roadways in 2011.
Americans don't NEED 470 HP
BAN THEM
This is the same "logic" that some use to defend their position for gun control. For those that support the 2nd Amendment, this is absolute nonsense. Do you agree?
..
The "Assault Vehicle Ban" would include:
- No one should need more than 200 Horsepower
- Vehicle more than 4 cylinders will require license and background check
- Vehicles with a seating capacity of more than 4 may be used for "Terrorist Activities" and will be outlawedLaissez les bon temps rouler! I love that word combination "glaring hypocrisy". Trips off the tongue most satisfyingly, sort of like a perfect 3-round burst.
They just keep coming. this is my favorite one so far ... it really drives home the glaring hypocrisy of the gun grabber mentality... "Laws for THEE, but not for ME"

Fed Gov: Annual Auto-Related Deaths Three Times Higher than Gun-Related Deaths
by AWR Hawkins 6 Jan 2013
According to the federal government, the number of people killed in automobile-related deaths annually is approximately three times higher than the number of people killed by all gun-related deaths combined -- handgun, shotgun, and rifle.
Yet there is, to my knowledge, no concerted effort to ban automobiles.
In a post on Jan. 3, I pointed out that FBI crime statistics show more people are consistently killed each year with hammers and clubs than with rifles. http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Governm...an-With-Rifles
This information was pertinent because Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) is planning to push legislation to ban several classes of rifles as we speak. Here is the link to her legislation. http://www.feinstein.senate.gov/publ...ssault-weapons
For this post, I will be adding the number of rifle-related deaths with the number of deaths in which handguns and shotguns were used as well. This is pertinent because Feinstein's legislation includes a ban on many of the most popular handguns in the United States.
I will contrast the total number of gun deaths per year with another number -- the total number of people killed each year in automobile-related deaths.
After all, if the Democrats' real concern is safety, wouldn't you assume they'd like to know what poses the greatest threat to human life?
According to the FBI, the total number of gun deaths for 2005 was 10,158, for 2006 it was 10,225, and for 2007 it was 10,129. These numbers fluctuate a little, dropping from time to time. For example, in 2010 the total number of gun related deaths was 8,775 and in 2011 it was 8,583.
These numbers can seem high. And snatched out of thin air by gun-grabbers, these numbers seem to represent death on an unbelievable scale. But when compared with other types of death -- like car accidents, and/or the reckless and intentionally-fatal uses of an automobile -- the gun death numbers literally pale in comparison
For example, according to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the total number of deaths related to automobiles in 2009 was 34,485. In other words, more people died via automobiles in 2009 alone than died in gun-related deaths for the years 2005, 2006, and 2007 combined.
Moreover, according to the CDC, more people died from falls in 2009 alone than died in gun-related deaths for the years 2009, 2010, and most of 2011 combined. (Total number of deaths via falls in 2009 was 24,792.)
The bottom line: Driving down the interstate and climbing rocks and ladders is exceedingly dangerous when compared with owning and using handguns, shotguns, and rifles.

ERIC HOLDER WANTS ‘GUN TRACKING BRACELETS’ FOR ALL GUN OWNERS!
Attorney General Eric Holder said on Friday that gun tracking bracelets are something the Justice Department (DOJ) wants to “explore” as part of its gun control efforts
April7, 2014
Attorney General Eric Holder said on Friday that gun tracking bracelets are something the Justice Department (DOJ) wants to “explore” as part of its gun control efforts.
When discussing gun violence prevention programs within the DOJ, Holder told a House appropriations subcommittee that his agency is looking into technological innovations.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=1E3bnUGkua8
“I think that one of the things that we learned when we were trying to get passed those common sense reforms last year, Vice President Biden and I had a meeting with a group of technology people and we talked about how guns can be made more safe,” he said.
“By making them either through finger print identification, the gun talks to a bracelet or something that you might wear, how guns can be used only by the person who is lawfully in possession of the weapon.”
“It’s those kinds of things that I think we want to try to explore so that we can make sure that people have the ability to enjoy their Second Amendment rights, but at the same time decreasing the misuse of weapons that lead to the kinds of things that we see on a daily basis,” Holder said.
The Justice Department has requested $382.1 million in increased spending for its fiscal year 2014 budget for “gun safety.”
Included in the proposal is $2 million for “Gun Safety Technology” grants, which would award prizes for technologies that are “proven to be reliable and effective.”
President Barack Obama’s budget proposal also calls for $1.1 billion to “protect Americans from gun violence—including $182 million to support the president’s ‘Now is the Time’ gun safety initiative.”
A recent innovation allows a gun owner to only unlock a safe with a fingerprint scan and an “RFID-equipped bracelet.”
Others have suggested manufacturing GPS tracking and RFID chips into every gun. RFID chips transmit location data and are used by law enforcement agencies to send automatic alerts if a weapon moves away from the tracker, indicating that the gun is lost or stolen.
