Obama KNEW ... and lied to the American people

The White House SITUATION ROOM got an email indicating the attack on Benghazi was a terrorist attack AS IT HAPPENED.

Email to White House Situation Room at 6:07 PM on 9/11: "Ansar al-Sharia Claims Responsibility for Benghazi Attack"

Multiple MSM outlets are reporting tonight that they recovered emails from anonymous government sources showing that both the State Department and White House knew within two hours of the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that an Islamist militant group had claimed responsibility. Via Reuters:

White House told of militant claim two hours after Libya attack: emails

By Mark Hosenball WASHINGTON | Tue Oct 23, 2012 9:11pm EDT

(Reuters) - Officials at the White House and State Department were advised two hours after attackers assaulted the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11 that an Islamic militant group had claimed credit for the attack, official emails show.

The emails, obtained by Reuters from government sources not connected with U.S. spy agencies or the State Department and who requested anonymity, specifically mention that the Libyan group called Ansar al-Sharia had asserted responsibility for the attacks.

The brief emails also show how U.S. diplomats described the attack, even as it was still under way, to Washington.

U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed in the Benghazi assault, which President Barack Obama and other U.S. officials ultimately acknowledged was a "terrorist" attack carried out by militants with suspected links to al Qaeda affiliates or sympathizers.

Administration spokesmen, including White House spokesman Jay Carney, citing an unclassified assessment prepared by the CIA, maintained for days that the attacks likely were a spontaneous protest against an anti-Muslim film.

While officials did mention the possible involvement of "extremists," they did not lay blame on any specific militant groups or possible links to al Qaeda or its affiliates until intelligence officials publicly alleged that on September 28.

There were indications that extremists with possible al Qaeda connections were involved, but also evidence that the attacks could have erupted spontaneously, they said, adding that government experts wanted to be cautious about pointing fingers prematurely.

U.S. intelligence officials have emphasized since shortly after the attack that early intelligence reporting about the attack was mixed.

Spokesmen for the White House and State Department had no immediate response to requests for comments on the emails.

    MISSIVES FROM LIBYA

The records obtained by Reuters consist of three emails dispatched by the State Department's Operations Center to multiple government offices, including addresses at the White House, Pentagon, intelligence community and FBI, on the afternoon of September 11.

The first email, timed at 4:05 p.m. Washington time - or 10:05 p.m. Benghazi time, 20-30 minutes after the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission allegedly began - carried the subject line "U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi Under Attack" and the notation "SBU", meaning "Sensitive But Unclassified."

The text said the State Department's regional security office had reported that the diplomatic mission in Benghazi was "under attack. Embassy in Tripoli reports approximately 20 armed people fired shots; explosions have been heard as well."

The message continued: "Ambassador Stevens, who is currently in Benghazi, and four ... personnel are in the compound safe haven. The 17th of February militia is providing security support."

A second email, headed "Update 1: U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi" and timed 4:54 p.m. Washington time, said that the Embassy in Tripoli had reported that "the firing at the U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi had stopped and the compound had been cleared." It said a "response team" was at the site attempting to locate missing personnel.

A third email, also marked SBU and sent at 6:07 p.m. Washington time, carried the subject line: "Update 2: Ansar al-Sharia Claims Responsibility for Benghazi Attack."

The message reported: "Embassy Tripoli reports the group claimed responsibility on Facebook and Twitter and has called for an attack on Embassy Tripoli."

While some information identifying recipients of this message was redacted from copies of the messages obtained by Reuters, a government source said that one of the addresses to which the message was sent was the White House Situation Room, the president's secure command post.

Other addressees included intelligence and military units as well as one used by the FBI command center, the source said.

It was not known what other messages were received by agencies in Washington from Libya that day about who might have been behind the attacks.

Intelligence experts caution that initial reports from the scene of any attack or disaster are often inaccurate.

By the morning of September 12, the day after the Benghazi attack, Reuters reported that there were indications that members of both Ansar al-Sharia, a militia based in the Benghazi area, and al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, the North African affiliate of al Qaeda's faltering central command, may have been involved in organizing the attacks.

One U.S. intelligence official said that during the first classified briefing about Benghazi given to members of Congress, officials "carefully laid out the full range of sparsely available information, relying on the best analysis available at the time."

The official added, however, that the initial analysis of the attack that was presented to legislators was mixed. "Briefers said extremists were involved in attacks that appeared spontaneous, there may have been a variety of motivating factors, and possible links to groups such as (al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and Ansar al-Sharia) were being looked at closely," the official said.

If this report is true, then the President, Secretary of State and Susan Rice ought to resign immediately. Remember, we impeached Clinton because he lied to us.

    ..

I want to know why Reuters is keeping this important piece of news so obscure and which has also affected global politics so much? This is enough for a few sackings in the State Dept and elsewhere.

    ..

    This just keeps getting worse.

    We know Obama lies.

But why lie about this for weeks and weeks.

    I am done with Obama.

    There is NO TRUST left.

    ..

The administration knew about it DURING the attack. The only person who had to authority to allow the military to intervene is The President and he did nothing. This is borderline criminal. This better be on the front page of The New York Times tomorrow. This is too big for even them to ignore.

    ..

Yes on TV tonight it said our Ambassador went through 7 hrs of hell as the Pres, VP were in Oval Office receiving calls. Help overhead in drones & it would have only taken 1 hr to get help from base in Italy... If I were the families, I'd sue the hell out of the Govt. BTW...no mention of the only person who half way took blame, Hiliary with Pres, VP. If people stil vote for this idiot liar, nothing will change their minds, they are too in love with him and he could do no wrong in their eyes.

    ..

e to get off that high horse and face the music. If the Prez thought it was offensive to suggest that he or his staff politicized this tragedy (2nd debate) then finding that EVERYONE on his staff politicized this tragedy is far worse than offensive. It is the epitome of callousness and disdain for the American people. He and everyone around him perpetuated this lie for as long as they dared.

And yes, Candy Crowley, you were a part of it by lying during the debate and assisting in the distortion of anything near the truth.

    ..

This is lightyears beyond Watergate. one died during Nixon's coverup of Watergate. Nixon covered up a burglary. Obama and his ilk are covering up a terrorist attack. The question is, why?

    ..

When I think of the weeks and weeks of front page stories of the anguish that was ABU GHRAIB, it makes me wonder how much effort our "intellectually curious" cheerleading media will devote to this.

I'm really trying hard to think when we last had a presidential/administration scandal of this magnitude. And silence from the lapdogs. Disgusting.

    ..

Yes. And the "demeaning" poses of the prisoners were portrayed as "torture."

Yet, our CinC ignores his own Ambassador being attacked by Islamists and not only ignores it, but spins the story to keep him from looking bad.

    Oh yeah...the video.

    ..

This confirms what anyone with a brain already knew. News of an attack on an American Embassy is going to reach the white house, state and the intelligence community immediately. I just wonder if this will get any MSM play at all. The media has been shockingly derelict thus far, and I don't expect anything better.

    ..

I am sure this falls in the area of an impeachable offense, but he will be voted out before proceedings could begin. Could he possibly face criminal charges after he is escorted out of the White House?

Luckily, Mitt Romney pressed President Obama on this hard last night, causing Obama to commit, in a high profile setting, to a version of events that increasingly appears inconsistent with the emerging facts.
    http://patterico.com/2012/10/23/obam...nghazi-attack/

7.I went back and read the transcript and Obama never answers the moderator’s question about what happened in Libya. And Mitt just talks general policy, good stuff, but not Libya.

Now with respect to Libya, as I indicated in the last debate, when we received that phone call, I immediately made sure that, number one, that we did everything we could to secure those Americans who were still in harm’s way…
Pure BS, but I guess Mitt didn’t want a brawl, he just wanted to sound like a president. And leave the brawling to his surrogates.

    ..

nationalreview.com: [Columnist Marc] Thiessen’s findings in the Washington Post indicate that Obama’s PDB [Presidential Daily Brief] meeting was scheduled for the morning of Wednesday, September 12. However, he postponed it in order to address shocked and distraught personnel at the State Department at 10:50 a.m. This was the perfectly correct thing to do.

However, Obama did not re-schedule his PDB meeting, which he could have squeezed in before departing for Andrews Air Force Base at 2:05 p.m. Had he picked the brains of top officials from the CIA, Pentagon, and other national-security entities, he might have asked:

    • Who killed our people?
    • Was this perpetrated by a video-fueled mob or a well-prepared band of terrorists?
    • Was this a one-off attack, or should American diplomats elsewhere expect similar bloodshed?
    • What are America’s options for responding to this carnage?
    • What else should the President of the United States know?

Rather than focus like a steel-cutting laser on these life-and-death matters, Obama instead flew to a campaign rally in Las Vegas.

nbcchicago.com, October 6, 2010: After news broke out of the shooting at the Fort Hood Army post in Texas, the nation watched in horror as the toll of dead and injured climbed. The White House was notified immediately and by late afternoon, word went out that the president would speak about the incident prior to a previously scheduled appearance.

At about 5 p.m., cable stations went to the president. The situation called for not only his trademark eloquence, but also grace and perspective. But instead of a somber chief executive offering reassuring words and expressions of sympathy and compassion, viewers saw a wildly disconnected and inappropriately light president making introductory remarks. At the event, a Tribal Nations Conference hosted by the Department of Interior’s Bureau of Indian affairs, the president thanked various staffers and offered a “shout-out” to “Dr. Joe Medicine Crow — that Congressional Medal of Honor winner.” Three minutes in, the president spoke about the shooting, in measured and appropriate terms.

Anyone at home aware of the major news story of the previous hours had to have been stunned. An incident like this requires a scrapping of the early light banter.

What was all that “we’re still looking at it” bs when the terrorists copped to it right after the attack? Obama told The View days later that they were still looking at it.

    ...

Romney was just playing it smart. Since he did not have the full scoop on everything that transpired in Benghazi and who was told what when, it would be foolishly risky to dive into the issue – especially when undoubtedly he can see from polling that he’s on the track to win, and foreign policy is not at the top of voters’ concerns. Like Reagan in 1980, he only needed to reassure the swing voters that he’s not a warmongering lunatic, and he did.

Mitt was smart. Obama's men would have put it on Romney's shoulders and made it his problem. Good thing Romney didn't say much. I bet Obama had a million excuses ready to defend his administration. Romney would made a good point man for the US when talking to our enemies. He knows when to hold them and when to fold them. LOL

A Commander in Chief should know that. But this is a man who thinks wars can be fought by unmanned aerial drones like the ones that watched impotently from the sky as over 30 Americans were attacked in Benghazi: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-33816_16...-libya-attack/

CBS News has been told that, hours after the attack began, an unmanned Predator drone was sent over the U.S. mission in Benghazi, and that the drone and other reconnaissance aircraft apparently observed the final hours of the protracted battle.

... The Pentagon says it did move a team of special operators from central Europe to the large Naval Air Station in Sigonella, Italy, but gave no other details. Sigonella is just an hour's flight from Libya. Other nearby bases include Aviano and Souda Bay. Military sources tell CBS News that resources at the three bases include fighter jets and Specter AC-130 gunships, which the sources say can be extremely effective in flying in and buzzing a crowd to disperse it.

Rick Nelson, a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and a former Navy pilot who worked in counter-terrorism, says such missions can be very risky. "A lot can go well, right, as we saw with the bin Laden raid. It was a very successful event," he says. "But also, when there are high risk activities like this. a lot can go wrong, as we saw with the Iranian hostage rescue decades ago."

Add to the controversy the fact that the last two Americans didn't die until more than six hours into the attack, and the question of U.S. military help becomes very important.
It's entirely possible that the military could not have arrived in time to save Ambassador Stevens or the three other Americans who lost their lives in the Benghazi attack. But they could have secured our consulate and driven home the message that the United States will not passively sit and watch as our Ambassador is murdered and our consulate and sensitive documents looted.

What kind of message is sent when the President of the United States responds serious questions about military readiness with ignorant and dismissive quips about ships being as antiquated as horses and bayonets? http://www.memeorandum.com/121023/p11#a121023p11

What kind of message is sent when the press are not only able to gain access to our consulate, but retrieve sensitive documents left lying around but the President of the United States can't manage to get his investigators into the country?

What kind of message is sent by a President whose first instinct was to blame a movie no one has actually seen for the Benghazi attack - who, years after the disastrous attack on our troops at Fort Hood, is still hesitant to label it a terrorist attack? http://www.blackfive.net/main/2012/10/mil-links-1.html

It is hard to believe this is still in dispute:
Nearly three years after the shooting rampage at Fort Hood, many of those affected are urging the U.S. government to declare it a terrorist attack, saying wounded soldiers and victims' relatives otherwise won't receive the same benefits as those in a combat zone.

This was ruled a "workplace dispute". Really? A guy running through an area yelling "Allu Akbar" who we find out was radicalized by a Muslim Imam who preached jihad against the US? Sounds like the administration's description of the Benghazi incident. "Spontaneous protests that got out of hand". Yeah, Ft. Hood was as much an "act of terrorism" as was Benghazi (as it is now recognized).
This is a president who likes to think of his leadership style as cooly cerebral and dispassionate. Like an unmanned predator drone, he hovers over world events from a safe distance, taking it all in.

    And doing absolutely nothing.

Anybody see where republican voters are getting letters that say they can't vote because they're not registered. Some democrats got them but mostly republican voters have. I heard it on HLN this morning. People will do anything to win.

Jay Carney: We knew instantaneously about those Benghazi emails — everybody did
    By Doug Powers • October 25, 2012 12:02 AM

Jay Carney held a press gaggle Wednesday and addressed emails http://michellemalkin.com/2012/10/24...nt-benghazi-2/ that were sent just a couple hours after Benghazi alerting the White House and others that an Al Qaeda affiliated group had claimed responsibility for the attack on the 9/11 anniversary. Carney’s reaction? Everybody knew about that: http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2...nstantaneously

Carney acknowledged today not only that the White House knew, but that it knew “instantaneously”:

“The email you’re referring to was an open-source, unclassified email referring to an assertion made on a social media site that everyone in this room had access to and knew about instantaneously.”

Instantaneously. Yet the Obama administration claimed for weeks that they were giving Americans the best available information.

Hillary Clinton on Wednesday said all the fuss over those emails is “cherrypicking a story” http://freebeacon.com/clinton-on-ema...self-evidence/ — something that is only proper if anger over a video is the culprit with absolutely no evidence to back it up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xk6s5...layer_embedded

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton downplayed State Department emails that show the White House was alerted that a militant group had claimed responsibility for the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on the day of that attack.

“The Independent Accountability Review Board is already hard at work looking at everything, not cherrypicking one story here or one document there,” Clinton said at the Wednesday press conference. “But looking at everything, which I highly recommend as the appropriate approach to something as complex as an attack like this.”

If they were waiting to gather all the information before saying publicly who was responsible for the attack and what the motive was, why the immediate focus on the video? The attack took place on the anniversary of 9/11, but the administration’s initial reaction was to downplay what should have been at the top of a painfully obvious list of possibilities. Instead they decided to run with the video story. Here’s Hillary the day after the attack: http://www.nationaljournal.com/natio...libya-20120912

There is no higher priority than protecting our men and women wherever they serve. We are working to determine the precise motivations and methods of those who carried out this assault. Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior, along with the protest that took place at our Embassy in Cairo yesterday, as a response to inflammatory material posted on the internet. America’s commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation. But let me be clear – there is no justification for this, none. Violence like this is no way to honor religion or faith. And as long as there are those who would take innocent life in the name of God, the world will never know a true and lasting peace.

On the surface it would appear that Hillary broke her “no cherrypicking” rule on day one after the attack, but in fairness to her she didn’t set that standard until, uh, yesterday.

And forget that Joe Biden was still claiming last week that all available intelligence at the time pointed to spontaneous anger over a video being the cause of the attack. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...=feeds-newsxml

So far there’s been no explanation why information in emails from State Department officials on the ground in a country where a US consulate was under siege don’t qualify as “available intelligence” while rumors originating from who-knows-where saying the attack was caused by a YouTube video do.

    **Written by Doug Powers http://michellemalkin.com/2012/10/25...mail-benghazi/

It seems to me Obama and his merry minions watched video in real time at the White House from a drone and maybe they asked Libya for permission but they did nothing, no intervention, no drone diversion, nothing, while associates of Al Qaeda during a seven hour attack tortured, sodomized and murdered Americans while American military resources were close by. This is got to be why the President and senior administration officials lied and covered up. They could have saved their lives but Barack Obama’s campaign took priority.

Their incompetence proved deadly, they did nothing to save American lives then scapegoated a hapless civilian and lied and lied and lied, and Obama is still lying to save himself.

It may be the truth is stranger and far worse than the fiction a corrupt administration is trying to feed the American people.

Let's put this in perspective. Let's say that benghazi was a person who had a medical problem and the white house was an er doctor.......

patient: doctor, I have a pain in my chest. am I having a heart attack?
doctor: I don't know if that is true or not. Go home, go to sleep, see if it goes away and if the pain persists tomorrow, let me know

    24 hrs later
patient: doctor I still have this pain.......
doctor: what did you eat yesterday. you might be suffering from heart burn. go home and see if it goes away

    24 hrs later......
patient: doc...(gasp)...i think it is real (gasp)
doctor: we do not know that. go home and let's wait because you don't know what is true and what is false

patient does not return to er..................................but ends up in the morgue. cause of death: will have to investigate ..........

“WH: ‘We Decline to Comment’ on When Obama Learned of E-Mails, Met With NSC on Benghazi”

After all, “transparency” was a marketing term, not an agreement to sign our own death certificate: http://cnsnews.com/news/article/wh-w...t-nsc-benghazi

The White House is declining to say when President Barack Obama first learned of three e-mails that the State Department sent to the White House on Sept. 11, 2012, directly notifying the Executive Office of the President that the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi was under attack, that U.S. Amb. Chris Stevens was at the Benghazi mission at the time of the attack, and that the group Ansar al-Sharia had taken credit for the attack.

The White House also declined to say when the president first met with the National Security Council after the Benghazi attack.

“I have been asked by one of our spokespeople to relay ‘that we decline to comment,’” said White House National Security Staff aide Debbie Bird in a written response to CNSNews.com.

CNSNews.com had asked Bird: 1) “When did the President first meet with the National Security Council after the Benghazi attack on 9/11/12?” 2) “When did White House staff first discuss the substance of the e-mails that went to the White House with the President or with the National Security Advisor?”

Carney also took a question about the e-mails today during a press gaggle held aboard Air Force One at 9:34 a.m. A reporter asked: “Jay, there are some emails that have emerged, which suggest that the White House and other areas of the government were told within hours of the Benghazi attack that an extremist group had claimed responsibility. How is that compatible with the idea that it was a spontaneous attack?”

Carney downplayed the significance of the State Department emails.

“There were emails about all sorts of information that was becoming available in the aftermath of the attack,” Carney said. “The email you’re referring to was an open-source, unclassified email referring to an assertion made on a social media site that everyone in this room had access to and knew about instantaneously. There was a variety of information coming in.

    [...]

“Again,” said Carney, “this was an open-source, unclassified email about a posting on a Facebook site. I would also note I think that within a few hours, that organization itself claimed that it had not been responsible. Neither should be taken as fact. That’s why there’s an investigation underway.”

The NSC is chaired by the president, and includes Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, National Security Advisor Tom Donilon, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Martin Dempsey, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. A NSC meeting would allow the leader of the intelligence community to communicate directly with the leader of the State Department in the presence of the president and for all of them to weigh any conflicting information.

The three emails in question, which were obtained by CBS News, were sent by the State Department to various government officials, including two officials in the Executive Office of the President, on Sept. 11, 2012, while the attack on the Benghazi was taking place and immediately after it had taken place.

Funny, they were dubious about the facts of a terror attack they themselves were able to witness in real time — and yet they were comfortable enough with the assertion that a YouTube video had caused rioting (which they now disavow having ever witnessed, because it didn’t happen) to allow the filmmaker’s identity be known, where he lived known, and while a Pakistan official responded by putting a bounty on the head of this US filmmaker, the Administration responded by buying ads apologizing for our First Amendment.

So you’ll excuse me if I don’t take lectures about rushes to judgment from this Administration and all its various lackeys involved in the cover up of mass murder. That’s just the way I roll.

The White House also declined to say when the president first met with the National Security Council after the Benghazi attack.
After returning from Vegas and NYC ?

    ..

There were fighters and AC130 gunships an hour away in Italy. They knew our people were in trouble and fighting terrorists.

    They. Did. Nothing.

They deliberately, willingly, and dispassionately turned their backs on people calling for help, hoping for help, and receiving exactly nothing.

Nothing except the honor of being a prop in a flag-draped coffin at a stump speech.

But Obama is a good man.

    *spit*

    ..

They did worse than nothing. They blamed America for the murder of America’s representatives.

    ..

Just listened to Ed Driscoll’s interview of Evan Sayet. It’s not a funny coincidence that the subject of blaming America (of necessity from the leftist’s view as Sayet sees it) lands front and center there.

    ..

Carney’s reaction? Everybody knew about that... EXCEPT the POTUS ??

Glenn Beck’s Explosive Interview With Charles Woods, Father of Slain Seal
    October, 25, 2012 — nicedeb

The Blaze has a video and report up about the interview Glenn Beck did with the father of slain Navy Seal, Tyrone Woods.

This is truly eye popping stuff.

The father of one of the former Navy SEALs killed in the terrorist attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya says President Barack Obama wouldn’t even look him in the eye and Vice President Joe Biden was disrespectful during the ceremony when his son’s body returned to America. He also says the White House’s story on the attack doesn’t pass the smell test.

Charles Woods, father of Tyrone Woods, called into “The Glenn Beck Program” on TheBlazeTV Thursday and recounted his interactions with the president, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Biden at the ceremony for the Libya victims at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. He told host Glenn Beck that what they told him, coupled with new reports that indicate the Obama administration knew very good and well, almost immediately, that a terrorist attack was occurring in Benghazi, make him certain that the American people are not getting the whole truth.

Vice President Biden, as he has become known to do, reportedly made a wildly inappropriate comment to the father who had just lost his hero son.

Woods said Biden came over to his family and asked in a “loud and boisterous” voice, “Did your son always have balls the size of cue balls?”

“Are these the words of someone who is sorry?” said Woods.
Are they even the words of someone who has any sense of decency or decorum?

That’s not even the worst of it.

Woods also described his brief encounter with the emotionless, limp fish “Commander in Chief” during the ceremony for the Libya victims.
“When he finally came over to where we were, I could tell that he was rather conflicted, a person who was not at peace with himself,” Woods said. “Shaking hands with him, quite frankly, was like shaking hands with a dead fish. His face was pointed towards me but he would not look me in the eye, his eyes were over my shoulder.”

“I could tell that he was not sorry,” he added. “He had no remorse.”
And Hillary’s comments were really the most egregious of all – because she promised Woods that the United States of America would exact vengeance on the guilty party who……created the YouTube video (?!)

After apologizing for his loss, Woods said Clinton told him that the U.S. would “make sure that the person who made that film is arrested and prosecuted.”

Fallen SEAL’s father: We need to find out who it was that gave the command “Don’t go rescue them”

Earlier in the day, Woods called into the Lars Larson Show and revealed many of the same startling details about the Obama administration’s response to the Benghazi terrorist attack.
