Chelsea Clinton continues evolution into public figure as she moderates panel
The child hunger event, sponsored by the Association for a Better New York, drew leaders from the non-profit and business worlds.

She's very well-educated and seems to be laying a strong political foundation.

The last thing we need is another Clinton (or Bush) in politics.

    I'm not sure.

With both parents involved in politics, she'd have a great head start.

One of the Clintons is fueling new speculation that she might run for office one day.

Not Hillary Clinton - but Chelsea.

The former first daughter took a new step in her evolution as a public figure, moderating a panel discussion Monday on child hunger.

The event, sponsored by the Association for a Better New York, drew leaders from the non-profit and business worlds.

For much of her adult life, Chelsea Clinton was seen but not heard.

That began to change last year when she was hired by NBC News as a special correspondent.

In recent days, she has become more visible, moderating a discussion at NYU about climate change before taking on the moderator role again on Monday.

The audience listened intently as Clinton recalled her first visit to the city 25 years ago.

Her father, Bill Clinton, was governor of Arkansas, and the trip was something of an early Christmas present.

Her parents took her to see “Cats,” the Rockettes and the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.

"I was enchanted and I knew this was a place that I someday wanted to live, she said.

"And indeed, in 2003 I moved here and now this is where my husband and I call home - and I cannot imagine living anywhere else."

She made an oblique reference to politics, saying the national dialogue during the 2012 campaign did not include a coherent discussion of the needs of vulnerable children.

She took no questions from reporters.

Hillary Clinton, of course, is expected to consider running for President in 2012.

In an interview with Vogue magazine this year, Chelsea Clinton did not rule out running for office one day.

“If there were to be a point where it was something I felt called to do and I didn’t think there was someone who was sufficiently committed to building a healthier, more just, more equitable, more productive world? Then that would be a question I’d have to ask and answer.”

'She's the yin to my yang': Chelsea Clinton and husband Marc Mezvinsky break silence on their marriage, those 'break-up' rumours and children

Chelsea Clinton has spoken publicly for for the first time about her marriage - giving her mother the 'grandchildren she has always wanted', and following her parents into politics.
Famously protective of her private life, the 32-year-old daughter of Bill and Hillary Clinton has long stayed silent on her relationship with husband Marc Mezvinsky, but in a new interview, the pair candidly discuss their future.
In the new September issue of Vogue, Marc calls Chelsea 'the yin to [his] yang', while she admits to wanting children 'in a couple of years, hopefully...God willing'.

Her words come after widespread reports last year that the couple’s marriage was in trouble.
For the past two years, people have continued to ask if the pair were getting divorced, and though they have maintained that there was no truth to the rumours, it did inspire Chelsea to reevaluate her approach to the public eye.

Her chief of staff, Bari Lurie said: 'What put a strain on them was that the stories were being written because none of us were paying attention to it.
'It was an eye-opening lesson. Chelsea realized, "Maybe I need to get out there and demystify myself a little bit."'

Facing up to fame: Ms Clinton sparked a media storm when she married investment banker Mark Mezvinsky in 2010, in a lavish ceremony believed to have cost $3million
The article also reveals how the couple's romance evolved at Stanford University, where Marc was a sophomore and 'total playboy'.
Chelsea had just broken up with her boyfriend from Oxford University and 'used Marc [a longtime friend] as a shoulder to lean on,' according to Ms Lurie.
'Chelsea really used Marc as a shoulder to lean on, and it just kind of happened. She says that it’s like one of those bad after-school specials'
'It just kind of happened,' she added. 'She always says that it’s like one of those bad after-school specials.'
But though they have been married for over two years now, Chelsea and her husband are yet to have any children - another detail to fuel rumours of a rift.
And though her mother, Hillary is desperate for her daughter and son-in-law to hurry up on the grandchildren front, Chelsea is not to be rushed.
She admits: 'It’s certainly something that Marc and I talk a lot about. I always knew I was the center of my parents’ lives when I was growing up. And I am determined that our children feel the same way.

Like mother like daughter? Ms Clinton says it was after her mother's campaign, in 2008, that she reconsidered the idea of following in her footsteps
'Marc and I are both working really hard right now, but I think in a couple of years, hopefully... literally, God willing.
'And I hope my mom can wait that long.'
Chelsea also admitted - for the first time - that she would not rule out running for office herself.
'Before my mom's campaign I would have said no. And now I don’t know,' she said.
'If there were to be a point where it was something I felt called to do and I didn’t think there was someone who was sufficiently committed to building a healthier, more just, more equitable, more productive world?
'Then that would be a question I’d have to ask and answer.
    '

First daughter: Chelsea , in 1994 with her then-President father and mother Hillary, says she has long fielded questions about running for office herself
Ms Clinton also alludes to the Monica Lewinsky scandal that rocked her family, however she refuses to dwell on the downside.
'There were constant reminders of how blessed I really was, and the blessings always far outweighed the burdens,' she says of the Clinton's roller-coaster scandal during their time at the White House.

Opening up: The interview with the former First Daughter appears in the new September issue of Vogue
Ms Clinton, who sparked a media storm when she married Mr Mezvinsky in 2010, in a lavish ceremony believed to have cost $3million, admits it was only afterwards she decided fame was either 'something I could continue to ignore or it was something I could try to use to highlight causes that I really cared about.'
'Historically I deliberately tried to lead a private life in the public eye,' she said. 'And now I am trying to lead a purposefully public life.'
She added that the suggestion of her running for office has been a question she has fielded her whole life.
'Even during my father’s 1984 gubernatorial campaign, it was, "Do you want to grow up and be governor one day?" No. I am four,' she recalled.
She says she believes 'there are many ways for each of us to play our part...
'For a very long time that’s what my mom did. And then she went into elected public life. Her life is a testament to the principle that there are many ways to serve.'

The Real Story of Chelsea Clinton's Marriage

    By KIRA ZALAN
November 7, 2011 RSS Feed Print
Maybe Bill Clinton had more to do with his daughter Chelsea's wedding than the former president has revealed.

Appearing at a Georgetown University event last Friday, former President Bill Clinton reflected on his time in the White House, his economic achievements, and the back-room deals he reached with Congress. Sponsored by the Clinton Foundation, the event also featured Clinton's former advisers and political allies, who praised the former president for eliminating the budget deficit and expanding the U.S. economy.

One of the panelists, Marjorie Margolies, was serving her first term in Congress when, Clinton says, he asked her to cast the deciding vote for a $500 billion deficit reduction bill, which got her a lot of negative press. It "put her on the plank" to be a one-termer, Clinton admitted during his telling of the anecdote.

In return, "I asked Bill for his firstborn child," Margolies said in jest.

Looks like Clinton paid the piper. Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton married investment banker Marc Mezvinsky, Margolies's son, last year.

Reports: Chelsea Clinton’s Marriage On The Rocks
However, Daily News Gossip Columnist Says Otherwise
    February 3, 2011 11:30 PM

NEW YORK (CBS 2) – Is Chelsea Clinton’s marriage on the rocks already?

Reports flying that the six-month marriage is over — collapsing under pressure from work and family.

It was the marriage of the year. Last summer, former first daughter Clinton tied the knot with her college sweetheart, Marc Mezvinsky.

But their marital bliss may have just blown up.

“I think a lot of people are hoping that there’s trouble between Chelsea and Marc, but it’s just not the case,” Daily News gossip columnist Carson Griffith told CBS 2’s Hazel Sanchez.

Griffith said the honeymoon is not over for the newlyweds, despite reports the couple has split.

“Our inside sources between them, looks they’re still in love. They’re still a young, happy couple,” Griffith said.

A Clinton family spokesperson confirmed Mezvinsky is on a three-month break from his job as an investmentbanker, and is hitting the slopes in Jackson Hole, Wyo. His wife stayed behind at their posh Fifth Avenue apartment, where the doorman told CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer that Mezvinsky has been missing in action.

“I have not seen him,” the doorman said.

Some reports have 30-year-old Clinton seeking an annulment and claiming that she and her husband had been fighting over starting a family. Some believe Mezvinsky may have been feeling the pressure from his secretary of state mother-in-law, a speculation fed by former President Bill Clinton in a recent interview with David Letterman.

“Hillary wanted this marriage because she wants to be a grandmother more than she wanted to be president,” the former president said.

A source close to the Clintons told Sanchez Chelsea Clinton and Mezvinsky are very happy, and that she has flown to visit Marc since he left last month.

“What we can tell you is that instead of relationship crisis it looks like it might be a work crisis for Marc,” Griffith said.

But only the couple knows the truth.

Chelsea Clinton is currently pursuing her PhD. in public policy at Columbia University.

Where is Marc now? Back to banking? Work? The slopes?

Chelsea Clinton, Marc Mezvinsky celebrate their first anniversary Sunday
    By The Reliable Source

Was it really just a year ago we were obsessing about Chelsea Clinton’s wedding? No rumor was too outlandish, no detail too small for the marriage of the former first daughter to investment banker Marc Mezvinsky.

In the end, they had their 5-foot-high gluten-free chocolate wedding cake and ate it, too: A private ceremony in Rhinebeck, N.Y. with 400 guests who were asked to leave their cell phones at home, followed by a secret honeymoon in South Africa. On Sunday, the media-shy newlyweds will celebrate their first anniversary — and probably won’t share how they marked the occasion.

Marc and Chelsea with Hillary and Bill Clinton after the couples’ wedding. Their first year of marriage passed without incident — except for Mezvinsky’s ill-timed ski break. As Clinton studied for a Ph.D. at New York University, her husband quit his hedge fund job and headed to Jackson Hole, Wyo., in January for an extended ski vacation. Tabloids speculated that the marriage of six months was already on the rocks, and Mezvinsky hightailed it back to Manhattan — where the two quickly appeared in public hand-in-hand looking appropriately lovey-dovey.

Now everything seems on track: Mezvinsky, 33, is planning to launch his own hedge fund; Clinton, 31, just joined Jill Biden on the presidential delegation to the Women’s World Cup finals. The couple are regulars at charity and cultural events; Bill Clinton is already talking about having grandchildren.

Another happy ending: Turns out Rhinebeck itself got a huge wedding bump. “That weekend was special for us,” Mayor James Reardon told us Thursday. “It’s been nothing but positive for our village.” The hoopla was worth millions in free advertising; the exposure has brought a steady stream of tourists to the historic town.

“In the fall, I got calls every day: ‘I saw it on TV, it looks so charming,’ ” said Colleen Cruikshank, director of the area’s Chamber of Commerce. “We are absolutely still reaping the benefits.” But the wedding was more than an economic boost: “It was really nice for us as a community. We really celebrated and embraced it.”

Still up for grabs: Astor Courts, the elegant Beaux Arts estate on Hudson River where the couple was married. Despite all the publicity surrounding the property, it still hasn’t found a buyer. Originally listed for $12 million in 2009, the price jumped to $13.5 million right after the wedding, but is now reduced to $8.4 million.

    http://www.tradersmagazine.com/issue...-110123-1.html

The Volcker rule, named for former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker who backed the concept, forbids banks from engaging in proprietary trading, though certain market-making activities are still allowed. The rule is required by the Dodd-Frank Act, and the Securities and Exchange Commission is weighing how to formulate its specific wording.

In spite of the fact the rule hasn’t even been written yet, banks have been losing traders from their prop desks in anticipation. Last year, Bennett Grau and Mark Mallon left Goldman Sachs to start a new global macro hedge fund together with fellow Goldman alum Marc Mezvinsky. Another Goldman prop trader, Daniele Benatoff, jumped ship to launch the London-based hedge fund Benros Capital.

Goldman is far from alone. Peter Muller, who founded a Morgan Stanley prop group, left the nest last year, and is expected to launch a new hedge fund seeded by Morgan. Todd Edgar, who got poached by Barclays from JPMorgan in 2009, left last year as well—again, to start his own hedge fund. Add to that list Kay Haigh, who left Deutsche Bank to launch Avantium Investment Management.

Of course, those are all highly respected traders able to attract large amounts of capital.
Sorry, I just found that line quite hysterical....

War on women: Harry Reid floats Chelsea Clinton for president; Calls her ‘the daughter’

    Wait, what?

Sen. Reid gave a speech Monday morning and guess who he gave a presidential shout-out to?

His idiocy has come to this. Twitter users also noticed a little something else about his head pat to Chelsea: He didn’t even refer to her by name.

Daughter shmaughter! Who needs a name? What difference does it make and all?

Do we smell a hashtag? Take it away, Twitter!

Maybe she will become an ambassador in a tumultuous country and be assassinated. Then Hilary will know what difference it makes.

Chelsea Clinton's $600,000-Per-Year Salary at NBC
For ONE Story a Month? An Obvious Political Favor

    By Tim Graham | June 14, 2014

Dylan Byers and Maggie Haberman of Politico reported Chelsea Clinton earned an annual salary of $600,000 at NBC News before switching to a month-to-month contract earlier this year. http://www.politico.com/story/2014/0...ry-107827.html

This might not be a shocking number if the former president’s daughter was an experienced journalist with tons of charisma...and if she was churning out a pile of stories. So how many stories do you think Chelsea filed since joining NBC in November 2011?

The Business Insider website guessed 14, so they missed about half.

Our count using the Nexis news-data retrieval system is 28. That’s 14 stories in her first 12 months, 13 in her second 12 months, and only one since last November. Four of those ran more than once, so that’s 24 original stories. Most of her stories were fluffy stories about baby elephants or street musicians.

In other words, she was producing less than one story a month for about $50,000. How this doesn’t look like a Comcast/NBC favor to the Clintons is anyone’s guess. Remember that she was only the "talent" in these segments, the face and voice. The people writing and editing these segments were surely much poorer than Chelsea.

The whole enterprise has seemed over since last June, when NBC’s primetime magazine show Rock Center was cancelled. She did one Nightly News story on September 20, 2013, and then one this year on January 13. So for the last five months, it’s money for nothing.

Politico was right to add The New York Post take on this: in the end it looks like “just another spoiled, aimless child of rich, successful parents chauffeured through adulthood by Mommy and Daddy’s connections.”

    http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tim-gra...#ixzz34lUXY9yn

I think the funniest thing I have read about Chelsea and NBC is ----
"NBC asked Chelsea for her resume' and she handed them her birth certificate."
That seemed to sum it up perfectly.

    ..
