    Well if it's based on one individual who can generate the most bang for the buck and not collectively as a group.....then we might as well send Michael Jackson's coffin on a national tour.....that will generate interest, security, travel expenses, etc. and a preponderance of tacky souvenirs....

    Presidential vacations: What a difference a President makes
    Posted by: Sister Toldjah on August 28, 2009 at 6:45 pm

    This should give you a good Friday evening chuckle:

    After a mid-August trip to America’s national parks and a weeklong vacation on Martha’s Vineyard, President Obama plans …

    … to take a little more time away from the office next week.

    Obama will head to Camp David on Wednesday, Sept. 2, and stay through the weekend, White House spokesman Bill Burton told reporters in a Thursday briefing.

    Joking that it may have been “wishful thinking” to suggest Obama’s current trip out of Washington would coincide with a news-free week, Burton quipped that the president needs a “break from his vacation.”

    For the second time in just a few days, however, the deputy press secretary emphasized that Obama hasn’t disengaged from his responsibilities.

    “When you’re president, you’ve always got that job,” Burton said.

    On Monday, Burton pointed to former President George W. Bush’s vacation habits to defend scattered criticism of Obama’s August schedule.

    “As I recall, the previous president [took] quite a bit of vacation himself, and I don’t think anyone bemoaned that,” Burton said.
    Look, I really don’t care if Obama wants to take a “second vacation” – Burton’s right about one thing: A President never really is on “vacation.”

    However, his comment about not thinking anyone “bemoaned” Bush’s vacations? Um … was he asleep for the last eight years? http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s...=f&oq=&aqi=g10

    And speaking of funny, my hat is off to Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) – another strong conservative woman who liberals hate – and her response to an ObamaCare supporter at a town hall meeting she hosted last night:
    http://news.postbulletin.com/newsman...?z=16&a=413518
    A good share of the crowd applauded her repeatedly during the 90-minute meeting. They cheered when she responded to a man interrupting her as she described babies being born in the hallways of overcrowded British hospitals.

    “I’ll tell you what, I’ve given birth here probably more times than you, sir,” Bachmann said. “I’ve given birth in the Stillwater hospital and I’ll tell you it is the finest care you could ever receive.”
    Here’s the video: http://www.eyeblast.tv/public/video.aspx?v=Gd8z4zprpr

    Zing!

    She’s gonna have a tough re-election fight next year, thanks to the left’s constant demonization of her. She, like Palin, is another strong conservative woman who the left loves to hate. To read more about this amazing woman, click here. http://michellebachmann/about.php I didn’t know that, in addition to having five kids, she and her husband had also fostered 23 kids. She is a strong proponent of foster care and adoption. She and her husband also both operate a small mental health care clinic. God bless ‘em.

    The difference between a liberal and a conservative:

    A liberal states what he would assume to be a better world and tells what has to be destroyed in order to make it work, all because he has conceived of it.

    A conservative sees a problem, looks at previous attempts to find solutions to the problem, figures out what will really work in the real world and goes about getting it done.

    That’s why liberals can look at the disasters that are health care in Canada, Great Britain, nearly all of Europe, Cuba, etc., and say it will be different this time.

    Michele Bachmann is truly magnificent… I love her nearly as much as Sarah Palin. She’s spearheading a lot of efforts that are driving the Democrats nuts.

    Concerning Barack’s “vacation woes,” did he forget that he, Michelle, the kids, and the Secret Service shut down the Grand Canyon to the public just two weeks ago for 7 hours? How is that NOT a vacation? Don’t think he got much “presidential work” done while there, but maybe I’m just not understanding how “hard it is” to be president. Crikey, I LIVE in Arizona and my kids have never been to the Grand Canyon – I’ve only been there twice in my life. And that’s because for us to travel up there from the Phoenix area, stay one day and one night, eat 3 meals a day at restaurants, then drive all the way home, would be a PRICEY VACATION for us on our limited budget. As it is for most folks whose jobs aren’t that of POTUS.

    Snort.

    Being the leader of the greatest nation on earth demands some personal sacrifices.

    So Bush was a callous, out of touch moron wasting time in Crawford. Obama really deserves the time off, and it isn’t really time off because he’s working all the time anyway.

    And who couldn’t have seen this coming? Remember how grossly offensive Bush’s “swagger” was, although he characterized it as “walking?” So it was with no surprise at all when a few months back I read glowing accounts of Obama’s “swagga,” which was a wonderfully admirable thing which brought great credit to this nation.

    Again, calling them wh res is an insult to prostitutes.

    In that vein, thank you, ST, for your blog. I miss it when I’m not able to get to it daily.

    And Steve, try to think of one physical attribute of GW that was not ridiculed (starting with caricatures of him with Dumbo ears) by the MSM, yet those same hypocritical jerks praise the exact same attributes in Duh-1 (starting with an incredibly poor speaking ability without TOTUS.) His ears, his swagger, his smirk – all positives for His Hollowness, laughable in GW.

    My take on it is at least he's staying here in the USA to generate some $$$ where ever he goes... better than him leaving the country.

    Politicians including the president will never scale back when it comes to them. But they'll tell others how they need to make sacrifices for the country.

    Well it all turned out that he would have been up here for Ted Kennedy's funeral anyway. (he's giving the eulogy) So the the government would have footed the bill for the flights and entourage for that. He paid for the rental of the vacation home with his own funds. If he can afford it, he's earned it. Cutting back should mean living within one's means and if he has the means to pay for a rental, he's helping the economy on the Vineyard.

    One of the consprisay nutjobs would read that and translate it to mean that O had Teddy killed to justify the vacation...

    He paid for the rental of the vacation home with his own funds.
    That is true; but all the additional security required is paid for by tax monies and the inconviences are paid by Joe Public.

    Example: Bush came to NO to give a speech after Gustav; unable to fly in and out of NO, they flew out of BR which security concerns required that they shut down 80 miles of interstate for three hours. How many people missed appointments; late for work ect ect ect. Whenever the POTUS moves, chaos follows.

    Poll: Nearly Two-Thirds of Americans Scaling Back Summer Vacation Plans Due to the Economy
    By Doug Powers • June 29, 2011 11:25 AM

    This morning I read a CNBC economic survey which included the following: http://www.cnbc.com/id/43494358

    60% of the public is reacting to higher food and gas prices by scaling back on summer vacation plans…

    Timing is everything, because no more than five minutes later I ran across this story: http://www.boston.com/news/nation/ar...ard_once_more/

    President Obama, for the third straight year, is planning to return to Martha’s Vineyard for vacation this summer, according to a White House official.

    The Obamas are scheduled to spend seven to 10 days on the island in mid- to late August, according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of security concerns.

    Some have wondered if public “perception” would be taken into greater consideration with 2012 just around the corner. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GJX8...layer_embedded

    There’s your answer. Now get back to work and up your game, America! http://www.wtov9.com/politics/28378354/detail.html

    WH says Obama to vacation in Martha's Vineyard
    AP – 8 hrs ago

    WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama will vacation with his family in Martha's Vineyard at the end of this month as he's done in years past, the White House said Wednesday, despite the weak economy and negotiations on the nation's debt problem. Press secretary Jay Carney defended Obama's plans to take a break even as he's pledged urgent action on those issues. "I don't think Americans out there would begrudge that notion that the president would spend some time with his family," Carney said.

    Carney added that there's really no such thing as a presidential vacation since Obama will travel with his aides, receive regular briefings on national security and the economy and be able to return to Washington if necessary. "The presidency travels with you. He will be in constant communication," Carney said at the White House briefing.

    Last August, the president, Michelle Obama and their two daughters spent 10 days at a rented farm on the wealthy island retreat in Massachusetts.

    It must be all that fund raising that tuckered him out. We know it wasn't all the work he put into submitting a budget. And then takes yet ANOTHER vacation?? He knows nothing and he does nothing.This president is a disgrace to this once great country.

    ~~~
    I begrudge it. Alot! He is going to fly the family up there on Air Force One with his entourage, limos, Secret Service, logistics support etc.and put it on the tax payer's tab. Well if you cannot afford Martha's Vineyard, eat cake!
    ~~~

    With the state of the economy, nation, and very high unemployment, you would think that Obama would demonstrate a little restraint in his uncontrolled spending, personal travel

    ~~~
    Ho, Hum economy tanking, approval ratings tanking, stock market tanking, no new jobs, four wars, no SS, No medicare, housing in crisis, states are broke, Ho Hum, Michelle it's time to step out for another taxpayer vacation and hide out for a while until someone figures out what to do next!
    ~~~

    Why not? It's not like there are stock market issues, high unemployment, debt problems, or ongoing wars to deal with...

    ~~~
    If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines 1 year ago, you would have $49.00 today! If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG, you would have $33.00. If you purchased $1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers, you would have $0.00. But, if you purchased $1,000 worth of beer, drank it all, and then turned in the aluminum cans for recycling, you would have $214.00. Therefore, currently the best investment plan is to drink & recycle. It's called the 401-Keg Plan!
    ~~~

    Nero fiddled while Rome burned, Obama will play golf while the usa is going down.

    Carney 2001: President’s on Vacation
    Carney 2011: No Such Thing as a Presidential Vacation
    Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 12:25pm by Doug Powers

    Here’s White House Press Secretary Jay Carney this week in response to a question about whether President Obama planned to carry on with a vacation on Martha’s Vineyard scheduled for later this month:

    And I don’t think Americans out there would begrudge that notion that the president would spend some time with his family. It is also, I think — as anyone who has covered it in the past, either in this administration or others, there’s no such thing as a presidential vacation.

    Ten years ago, in a Time article Carney wrote while covering the Bush administration, it didn’t sound like there’s no such thing as a presidential vacation:

    Back in July, when they were planning what the President should do during his month-long vacation (as part of their effort to persuade the public that he wasn’t actually on vacation in the generally accepted sense of what vacation means — i.e., having fun and not working), the image-makers hit upon a clever idea. Every week, they decided, they would send the President somewhere outside Texas for a day or a day and a half to hold an event of some kind in which he would mix with “real Americans.”

    The events would have little in common, except for the fact that they would be held far from Washington in the middle of August. But to tie them together, to make it seem as though the President were engaged in some concentrated activity of presidential purpose, they would name the entire series of trips — together with his down time at his ranch in Crawford, Texas — the “Home to the Heartland” tour.

    During his first week of vacation, Bush ventured all the way to Waco —about 25 minutes from Crawford — to “help build” a house with Habitat for Humanity. Though Bush actually spent about 15 minutes doing anything, the print media dutifully reported his activity. More importantly, of course, the images of Bush at work on a good deed were carried across the nation on television and in photographs.
    Times have changed.

    I’m also willing to bet that, years ago, Carney wouldn’t have claimed that unemployment checks mailed out during the Bush years were a great way to stimulate the economy and create jobs.
