I AM THE MOM: Hospital Has Another Thing Coming When It Pushes 1-on-1 with Michigan Woman’s Daughter
By Emily Hulsey 5 hours ago

Christy Duffy is setting the internet on fire with a viral blog post about her recent experience at a Michigan hospital. It started when she was taking her daughter in for an appointment and saw this notice:

The flyer stated that new state laws require nurses to hold a “short 5 minute private conversation with your child.”

Duffy asked if she could opt out of the policy, but the receptionist explained that it was mandatory. Needless to say, Duffy was not pleased. The situation got even more absurd when the office manager described what exactly they would be speaking to her daughter about. She wrote on her blog:

She said there was a new policy that would allow a child to access his/her medical records online and the child would be allowed to block a parent from viewing the website. The nurse would also inform my children that the doctor’s office is a safe place for them to receive information about STDs, HIV and birth control.

That is what the nurse would be chatting about with my children without any pesky parental oversight.
Duffy then refused to let anyone speak with her daughter privately and insisted that she would, indeed, be opting out of the policy – whether they liked it or not.

After describing her experience, which some might describe as an overreaction to a well-intended law, she went on to explain why she so adamantly refused to comply:

Make sure this is crystal clear: what they want to do is talk to your child about sex and drugs (maybe rock and roll – who knows?) without your input. Is it really such a stretch to imagine that a doctor who does not value abstinence before marriage would encourage your daughters – as young as 12! – to receive birth control? Is it really such a stretch to imagine a nurse telling a young boy – because a 12 year old boy is a BOY – that she will give him condoms so he can be “safe”? Is this what you want told to your children without the ability to filter the info through your world view?
    Duffy ended by saying this:

I am the Mom. I will pick who can talk to my kids about sex and drugs. And rock-n-roll for that matter.
And she’s so on-point. Parents have the right to choose what is and isn’t said to their children; the government and medical personnel do not.

Maybe if more parents reacted like this mom did, there would be fewer out-of-control policies to speak up against.

it appears your rights as a parent are greatly diminished. you have the right to pay for everything that kids want....what the government wants. heck there are schools that will not allow a parent to send their child to school with a packed lunch. you have to pay for your child's college education but you can't get school info without their permission. the one good spot was when a child sued her parents (that she refused to obey) to pay for her college and the judge ruled in the parents favor....it doesn't always turn out that way. things are going backwards imho

Did you know if your child has a drug problem and has to get counseling the counselor doesn't have to talk to the parent at all and the child has the say whether the parent knows anything at all about how serious the problem is when they turn 14 the child has complete say about anything dealing with drugs, the parent is kept in the dark and has to find everything out on their own. This is government at work. Parents are to be responsible for everything a child does until they are 18 and the government won't allow us to do our job.
The "TALK" that woman refused is another Obama token to remove more of our rights.. Thanks for letting us know about this one.
The so called affordable care isn't affordable, it is expensive and with really high deductibles that a person can't afford to even go to the doctors.

My sons doctor asked my permission to have a short private talk. I knew the subject matter and with each sons permission, I agreed. I trust my sons and I had a great rapport with this pediatric group. However, my sons were freshman in high school. The doctor gave me kudos for my sons having knowledge of the subject matter, sex and drugs. I told the doc that I give them good information which is not always what the government pushes. I always had a great relationship with my boys. We converse about EVERYTHING! But I am also "THE MOM". I ultimately rule and they know this. I like my sons. But I am not their friend. I am the Mom who is responsible for making them respectful, responsible, compassionate, individual thinking men by instilling my moral values.

I had a lot of talks with my son but it didn't help, he still got into things he shouldn't have and we are still working to get him straightened out. One counselor even told him that she thought that marijuana should be legal! I felt that was not appropriate for the situation and he was worse while under her counseling until I put a stop to it.

Are you surprised? Latest: The Obama administration claims that emails connected to Lois Lerner, the IRS official at the center of the Tea Party-targeting scandal, are lost forever because her computer hard drive crashed.

what about all the illegals they are ushering into this country by the thousands, children too and no standard like if they are criminal or not, some are coming here very ill or with communicable diseases? Our government apparently is hiring nannies to take care of all the kids they are bringing in?

this I think may be how they will take the US from inside, we will become a third world country with disease and poverty with the influx of all the illegals that will get amnesty and use our services after not paying a cent into it, maybe it will start with Mexico and then progress to other nationalities, even our enemies, entering our country by the thousands and millions.

The Obama Admin Just Exempted US Territories From Obamacare

    6:11 PM 07/17/2014

The Obama administration issued yet another waiver to get out of Obamacare — for all the U.S. territories.

The exemption, posted Thursday on a Department of Health and Human Services website, frees U.S. territories from a host of Obamacare regulations on health insurance markets. The territories already weren’t subject to much of the health care law — the individual mandate doesn’t apply to the territories and premium subsidies aren’t available.

What did apply were a host of regulations on the health insurance markets operating in the territories. Obamacare’s rules for insurance companies — providing mandated health benefits to all customers, limits on insurer profits, and guaranteed coverage for those with pre-existing conditions — all force insurers to take a hit, but in the territories, the sweeteners that make Obamacare a great deal for insurance companies in the states don’t apply.

The individual mandate and premium subsidies were supposed to bring healthy and young customers into the insurance market. Even in the states, that’s not working nearly as well as the Obama administration had hoped. But without either provisions, the insurance markets in the territories were tanking due to the influx of sick patients and the new benefits insurers were required to provide.

The U.S. territories have been pleading with the Obama administration to exempt them from the regulations, but HHS officials had refused until now.

“HHS is not authorized to choose which provisions…might apply to the territories,” top HHS official Gary Cohen wrote last year, The Washington Post reported.

Now HHS believes it has the authority after all. The Public Health Service Act’s definition of the term “state” has led HHS to belatedly determine that most of Obamacare’s regulations don’t apply to the territories.

The territories will be exempted from guaranteed coverage, community rating, single risk pools, rate review, the medical loss ratio, and essential health benefits.

The evolved interpretation of the Public Health Service Act’s application to the territories came after representatives continued to protest that Obamacare was “undermining the stability” of the insurance markets in the territories.

A spokesman for Obamacare administrator the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said the territories were a special circumstance, the Post reports.
