Illinois pushed forward on more restrictive firearms legislation yesterday. In response the Illinois State Rifle Association issued an “urgent alert” to its members warning them, “There would be no exemptions and no grandfathering.” ISRA stated in its alert, “You would have a very short window to turn in your guns to the state police and avoid prosecution.”
Chicago banned handguns years ago - 512 murders in 2012.

Ten New Gun Bills Introduced On First Day Of Congress
5 January 2013
On the first day of the 113th Congress, ten new bills were introduced with an emphasis on guns. The majority of these, eight, were introduced by Democrats. The two that were introduced by freshmen Republican Congressmen are designed to eliminate schools as “gun free zones.”
Four of the bills came from Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), who has been active for some time in trying to push more gun control legislation because of the fact that her husband was shot to death in 1993. McCarthy introduced HR 137, 138, 141, and 142.
HR 137 and HR138 would require people who are prohibited from purchasing a firearm to be cataloged in a national database and would also prevent transfers of high-capacity ammunition magazines.
Her HR 141 bill would require criminal background checks at all gun shows, while her HR 142 bill would require face-to-face purchases of ammunition, the licensing of dealers, and the reporting of bulk ammunition purchases. Can you imagine what this will do to internet business regarding ammunition? That’s right, it will kill it.

County Sheriff: Inmates using newspaper’s gun permit map to intimidate guards
By Doug Powers • January 5, 2013 02:39 PM
A while back, the Journal News, a suburban New York newspaper, published an interactive map featuring the names and addresses of people with gun permits in two counties. http://twitchy.com/2012/12/24/ny-pap...ates-outraged/ The paper wanted to publish the addresses of permit holders in a third, but the Putnam County Clerk denied the request, saying it would put lives in danger. http://twitchy.com/2013/01/03/putnam...er-says-clerk/
The gun permit map is such a bad idea that even Michael Bloomberg is up in the air about it http://www.politico.com/blogs/media/...ap-153370.html (currently Bloomberg feels the interactive map technology should only be used to locate people who drink large sodas).
Because crooks — like the rest of us — would prefer not to get shot, ex-burglars say the map is a treasure trove of information for criminals about which houses to avoid. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/01/04...-easier-safer/ However, it could also endanger the people who are more likely to be named and located on the map — specifically prison guards and other current and former law enforcement officials: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/01/04...#ixzz2H779tV2i
Law enforcement officials from a New York region where a local paper published a map identifying gun owners say prisoners are using the information to intimidate guards.
Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco, who spoke at a news conference flanked by other county officials, said the Journal News’ decision to post an online map of names and addresses of handgun owners Dec. 23 has put law enforcement officers in danger. “They have inmates coming up to them and telling them exactly where they live. That’s not acceptable to me,” Falco said, according to Newsday.
Robert Riley, an officer with the White Plains Police Department and president of its Patrolman’s Benevolent Association, agreed. “You have guys who work in New York City who live up here. Now their names and addresses are out there, too,” he said adding that there are 8,000 active and retired NYPD officers currently living in Rockland County.“I originally obtained a gun permit because I had previously been married to a man who attempted to strangle me… The first emotion I felt was, ‘Oh my gosh, he can find me.’”
In related news, a map of the location of gun owners in Texas has been published: http://beforeitsnews.com/tea-party/2...s-2471850.html

comments
The newspaper has two offices that are now protected by… armed security. Did they put two dots on their “where the guns are” map to let everybody know that?
...
the problem with this is simple. people on the right, for the most part, are not rabid individuals, and do not retaliate against people who belive differently then themself. however, not true for people on the left.
..
I have a question…
There are 80 million gun owners in the U.S. If 10% became militant that would be 8 million people. We have seen the “Million Men March” and the “Million Mom March” (or something). What would happen if we had the “Bitter Clingers Pissed March”? All would be locked and loaded. The DC PD, Capitol Police, Secret Service and every other police agency invented to protect the “elites” would be in “oh oh mode”.
...
I had to snicker a little in the Drudge Headlines on this topic:
Why can’t we publish list of women who get abortions? http://www.mediaite.com/tv/coulter-t...get-abortions/
Privacy only works when everyone works to protect not only their own privacy but that of someone else’s. When some or many people quit giving a damn about someone else’s privacy they should expect to have the same sentiment focused against them. If someone supports laws to take away my privacy, I have an OBLIGATION to remove theirs.
That NY newspaper deserves to be financialy crushed for this.
The Silver Lining to all this is that if and when Obama/Feinstein get their gun laws from Weepy Boehnor is that no cop in their right mind is every really going to cooperate with it.(I.E. collaborators will be few and far between) The left made NO FRIENDS in the LE community by this act.
..
What bothers me and has been bothering me is :
1) the purchase of millions of rounds of ammo by several fed Agencies
2) The Dropping of the School safety initiative by the justice department and the scaling back of prosecution of Gun Crimes by the feds as well
3) The above is a manufactured reason for the sock puppet regime to try and disarm the American Public
4) Notice how Ft Hood got swept under the Rug but Aurora and now Sandy Hook are the Cause of the day
...
On the gun issue, have you seem what the dhs is buying and how many? And IIRC this is just one of several fed agencies doing this? Now one has to wonder, with bho/team/d’s wanting to go full force against the 2nd, bho said it was one of his ‘top’ agenda’s for 2013, ARE WE citizens in danger from the feds going after any citizen who have guns and might be bent out of shape doing away with our 2nd? Me thinks this does not pass the smell test? I might suggest we keep up with what is happening with this?
http://www.wnd.com/2013/01/dhs-buys-...s/?cat_orig=us
...
Letget, you bring up an important point. Now add to that the US’s fiscal position. All it will take for the US debt to explode is a rise of interest rates (through a variety of means, not all of them under control of US Gov’t or the Too Big To Fail Banks), and the US Gov’t is going to be in a world of hurt with Kaos ensuing when freeloaders/government workers don’t get their checks/toys in the mail.
So their plan (by ‘their plan’ I mean Dems and Reps who have supported Boehnor/Obama on spending) is to make peaceful gun owners the scapegoat for what happens.
(Notice that I didn’t use the word ‘law-abiding’ but rather the word ‘peaceful’ in describing the majority of gun owners. We are entering a phase of history where a lot of laws placed over us are either evil in their intent or misapplied to benefit one group over another)

I Know What She Was Thinking...
Via Glenn http://pjmedia.com/instapundit/160939/ we see a story about a woman who, cornered by a home intruder, http://pjmedia.com/instapundit/160939/ emptied her .38 revolver into him. The aftermath will come as a shock to the gun controllers:
http://www.wsbtv.com/staff/kerry-kavanaugh
A woman hiding in her attic with children shot an intruder multiple times before fleeing to safety Friday.
The incident happened at a home on Henderson Ridge Lane in Loganville around 1 p.m. The woman was working in an upstairs office when she spotted a strange man outside a window, according to Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman. He said she took her 9-year-old twins to a crawlspace before the man broke in using a crowbar.
But the man eventually found the family."The perpetrator opens that door. Of course, at that time he's staring at her, her two children and a .38 revolver," Chapman told Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh.
The woman then shot him five times, but he survived, Chapman said. He said the woman ran out of bullets but threatened to shoot the intruder if he moved.
"She's standing over him, and she realizes she's fired all six rounds. And the guy's telling her to quit shooting," Chapman said.
The woman ran to a neighbor's home with her children. The intruder attempted to flee in his car but crashed into a wooded area and collapsed in a nearby driveway, Chapman said.
Deputies arrested 32-year-old Atlanta resident Paul Slater in connection with the crime. Chapman said they found him on the ground saying, "Help me. I'm close to dying." Slater was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment. Chapman said Slater was shot in the face and neck.
...
Channel 2’s Amy Napier Viteri learned from Chapman late Friday night that slater has been placed on a ventilator and suffers from punctured lungs, a punctured liver and a punctured stomach.
He said if Slater survives the night, doctors will try to operate in the morning to repair the damage.
Chapman said Slater has four exit wounds.
Still, she had a plausible defensive plan (hide!), a weapon and the composure to use it, she hit with most of her shots, and she and her kids are safe and the bad guy is down. Maybe the win could have been prettier, but it sure beats losing.
http://justoneminute.typepad.com/mai...-thinking.html
See, this is where one of those “assault weapons” might have come in handy.
UPDATE: A reader emails: “When some politician starts pontificating that no one needs more than a 10 round clip capacity (or 5, or 3) this is the story that should be shoved in their faces. She fired 6 shots, put 5 in the attacker and he was still kicking. What if there had been multiple attackers. Then that 30 round clip suddenly seems appropriate.”
See, that’s why I make sure the Insta-Wife has plenty of bullets. It’s out of kindness to any home invaders. Because what she’d do to them if she were out of bullets would be worse.
ANOTHER UPDATE: Donald Sensing emails: http://senseofevents.blogspot.com/20...ed-pastor.html
I have some insight as a retired Army artillery officer. First, you never want to be in a gunfight with barely enough firepower. The principle is called, “overmatch,” which should be self explanatory. As a Marine friend told me, when you go to a gunfight, bring not just a gun, bring all your guns. Bring all your friends and have them bring all their guns.
Bottom line, you do not want a gunfight to be a fair fight, whether on the battlefield on inside your own home.
Every time I read some bozo gun controller talking about what he thinks is “not necessary” for self defense, it further proves that gun controllers know nothing about guns, but plenty about control, and the gun-control movement is heavily northeast urban in character.
There is more out here in the real world to defend against than muggers or home invaders, hence I explained, “Why I Am an Armed Pastor.”
I also read on another blog the comments by a western rancher who explained that he always carries a .223 semi-auto rifle when working his own property. Why? Because of wolves. Six charged him one day and it took far more than 10 rounds from his “assault” rifle to drop two of them, after which the other four fled. Naturally, he started shooting at them at long range and they were running fast to boot, so he missed most shots. Which is exactly right: “Don’t shoot until you see the whites of their eyes” is musket shooting, not a good tactic to defend against multiple predators.
But gun controllers don’t get things like that. They think everything works like on TV or the movies, when a shooter never misses and every hit immediately kills. A more ignorant bunch can hardly be identified in America today.
Take a look at the home in the story – this is the soccer mom haven, the bastion of the American middle where no evil doth enter, yet here is the worst scenario possible. Woman alone at home with her children. We need images like this house/setting to combat the images of the anti-gun lobby. Images are powerful!

There has already been problems associated with what this lunatic woman has done! She has no regard for the families of police officers and people in law enforcement who now have their PRIVATE addresses easily found by criminals they have arrested and seen through to conviction. Criminals in prison are now threatening these officers and their families to their faces in jail. Society has always worked hard to protect the families of our law enforcement personnel. Shame on you!!! Please share this and protect our beloved law enforcement and their families.Laissez les bon temps rouler! Obama to use crony capitalism to pass gun control?
3:17 PM 01/06/2013
The Washington Post reports that a “working group” led by Vice President Biden is considering measures that would “require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the sources said.”
That’s not terribly surprising. What is perhaps more interesting is this tidbit:
To sell such changes, the White House is developing strategies to work around the National Rifle Association that one source said could include rallying support from Wal-Mart and other gun retailers for measures that would benefit their businesses.
In fact, this is precisely the kind of move my liberal Bloggingheads counterpart Bill Scher suggested in a New York Times op-ed titled “How Liberals Win,” this summer.
As Scher explained, http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/01/op...anted=all&_r=0
The necessity of corporate support for, or at least acquiescence to, liberal policies is not a new development in the history of American liberalism. Indeed it has been one of its hallmarks.Just look at how Mr. Obama handled the health care law. Recently released e-mail exchanges between the White House and the pharmaceutical lobby, which detail a path of compromises that won the drug industry’s support for the Affordable Care Act, certainly look more like “business as usual” than “change.” The e-mails include a White House promise of a “direct line of communication” to lobbyists, along with a suggestion to “stay quiet” about an agreement that buried a proposal for cheap drug imports.
But the e-mail trove is a case study in how liberal change becomes reality. The key to President Obama’s success was enlisting drug companies to pay for pro-reform advertisements. He also persuaded health insurers to forgo a major opposition campaign — by accepting the industry’s proposal for the individual mandate to buy private insurance and dropping plans for a competing public insurance option.
(Paging Tim Carney, Jonah Goldberg and Luigi Zingales.)

Australian Gun Law Update
Here's a thought to warm some of your hearts....
From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia
Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down Under.
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.
The first year results are now in: Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,
Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent;
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!
In the state of Victoria a lone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent.(Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!) While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed. There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins andassaults of the elderly, while the resident is at home.
Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in 'successfully ridding Australian society of guns....' You won't see this on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the State Assembly disseminating this information.
The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens. Take note Americans, before it's too late!
Will you be one of the sheep to turn yours in? WHY? You will need it.
FORWARD TO EVERYONE ON YOUR EMAIL LIST. [I DID]

BofA Freezes Gun Manufacturer’s Deposits Saying: “We Believe You Should Not Be Selling Guns On The Internet”
Posted by Jim Hoft on Sunday, January 6, 2013, 10:38 PM
On December 29, 2011, Joseph P Sirochman, the owner of American Spirit Arms posted this on Facebook, via Ironic Surrealism. http://www.ironicsurrealism.com/2013...-the-internet/
All,
My name is Joe Sirochman owner of American Spirit Arms and I wanted to share my recent experience with Bank of America .(which we have been doing business with for over 10 years)…. Everyone is familiar with the latest increase in guns sales , dealers selling out of inventory , Manufacturers back logged for months , large revenue all generated in the last two weeks …. American Spirit Arms is no exception to the overwhelming demand . What we have experienced is that our web site orders have jumped 500 % causing our web site E commerce processing larger Deposits to BANK OF AMERICA ..Well, this through up a huge RED Flag with Bank of America . So they decided to hold the deposits for further review , meaning that the orders/payments that were coming in through the web ,( being paid by the customer and that were shipped out by American Spirit Arms ),the BANK was keeping (UNDER REVIEW )..as you could imagine this made me furious…After countless hours on the phone with BANK OF AMERICA I finally got a Manager in the right department that told me the reason that the deposits were on hold for FURTHER REVIEW …HER EXACT WORDS WERE …
..” WE BELIEVE YOU SHOULD NOT BE SELLING GUNS and PARTS ON THE INTERNET “
…I flipped the F**k Out and told them that they have no right to make up their own new rules and regs..that we are a firearms Manufacturer with all the proper licensing FFL (Federal Firearm license ), SOT and that we follow all Federal and All States’ rules and regulations on shipping Firearms and parts ..and that we are also Audited by ATF and Homeland Security on a regular basis … She said that she understands that but that the deposits will be released After they have a chance to review and clear them …I told her that This was unacceptable and the those deposits (that were a week old by now ) needed to be released ASAP, that we are a small business and rely on the revenue to run and stay operational.
After that being said another Manager got involved and released one of the deposits (to help out )… So far to date after two weeks of sales only 1/3 of collected internet sales have been released ..I am still pissed and looking for another bank and options …
I just thought the public should know ..
I will keep everyone posted on new developments ..
Sincerely
Joseph P Sirochman

Schwarzenegger Says Film Violence Not Linked to School Shooting
Sunday, 06 Jan 2013 04:53 PM
Arnold Schwarzenegger may be one of the world's biggest action stars but the former governor of California says violence in films is entertainment and should not be linked to tragic events like the Connecticut school shooting in which 20 children died. The star of films such as "The Terminator," "Predator" and "True Lies" told a press conference before the opening of his new movie, "The Last Stand," on Jan. 18th that "one has to keep (the two) separate."
"(This is) entertainment and the other thing is a tragedy beyond belief. It's really serious and it's the real deal," Schwarzenegger, 65, told reporters.
The actor, who will star in his first leading role in the film since serving as California governor for seven years, said the tragedy in which a gunman killed 20 children and six staff at the Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, is about more than just guns. "We have to analyze how we deal with mental illness, how we deal with gun laws, how we deal with parenting," he said.
In "The Last Stand," Schwarzenegger plays a retired Los Angeles policeman who becomes a border town sheriff who must stop a violent drug lord from crossing the border. The film, with its violent scenes, is the type of movie that National Rifle Association chief Wayne LaPierre recently cited as a contributing factor to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
But Schwarzenegger said that gun laws and mental health guidance need reform, not Hollywood. "How can we do better with gun laws?" asked Schwarzenegger. "If there are any loopholes, if there's a problem, let's analyze it ... Are we really dealing with the mental problems the right way as a society?"
In terms of parenting, the former politician alluded to the Connecticut killer Adam Lanza's mother, Nancy, who was also shot and killed by her own son on that tragic day. "Does a mother need to collect guns and take her little kids shooting?" he asked.
"Everything has to be analyzed; no stone unturned," he added. "I think that's what we owe to our people."
