Gun control advocates lash out at NRA after felon shoots firefighters
Posted at 12:45 pm on December 25, 2012 by Twitchy Staff

    Henry Blodget@hblodget

So, will the NRA now suggest that firemen be armed with M16s? read.bi/V1ujSN [Two shot in "trap" in New York this morning]

    24 Dec 12
Yesterday, a New York man who served 17 years in prison for killing his grandmother reportedly set a house and car on fire and then shot at emergency personnel who showed up, killing two firefighters.

Gun control advocates immediately took to Twitter to express their outrage.

They weren’t outraged at the monster who carried out the shootings. No, they were outraged at the NRA.

The man who carried out the shootings, William Spengler, was a convicted felon. As such, he was not allowed to own guns legally. http://abcnews.go.com/US/gunman-shoo...4#.UNnfKG_AeW0

    Randy Herrmann@Herrmann8er

William Spangler (the pond scum that shot the firefighters) was a convicted felon, forbidden from owning firearms. Ya hear that leftists?

    24 Dec 12
William Spengler clearly was not someone who abides by the law. Would the proposals supported by gun control advocates have prevented him from obtaining his murder weapon? Color us skeptical.

    http://twitchy.com/2012/12/25/gun-co...-firefighters/

Here was a guy - with his grandmother's blood on his hands - who should not have been free amongst the rest of us, let alone in possession of firearms. However, let's not talk about the revolving door that is the criminal justice system, let's talk about gun control.

    ..

Amazing - the leftist liberal never blame the person responsible

    ..

Looks like all the loony, liberal stooges are chiming in. Carpet Bombing through knee jerk reaction and COMPLETELY missing the target... Again!

    IT'S THE CRIMINAL, STUPID!

A felon banned from owning a firearm. Gets one. Not at a gun show or store. He steals one. No big surprise there, Criminals by definition and actions don't obey the law.

He then sets a fire. Lays an ambush. Murders fire fighters.

Yet, the NRA is to blame?!!!!!!!

    ..

Yes once again it's time to hold people accountable for their actions. Just like any tool most things can be dangerous in the wrong hands. While I live in a state with strict gun control laws, murder is illegal and it does not stop criminals from breaking laws across the board. Making more laws simply restricts access to good law abiding people from what is their consitutional right. Point in hand, let us blame all the car manufacturers for the deaths of the people that choose to drink and drive and kill. That isn't going to happen, but stripping the rights of citizens of their 2nd amendment rights to push this administrations agenda. Criminals stealing weapons and that have commited violent crimes that should be locked up are free on the streets or people with mental issues that should have solid facilities to help them get no help. They just get stuck in a criminal facility with little to no help and recieve meds to calm them down so they can be interacted with easier. I have read many reports where undocumented aliens stack up multiple DUI reports including hit and runs, vehicular manslaughter, driving with no licences or on suspended ones. Let's take a good look at those stats and ponder. http://www.dui-usa.drinkdriving.org/...statistics.php Also while criminals choose to take the lives of all people including the defenseless children, it is ok for the left to agree with aborting said children? I think not...

    ...

Guess what, liberal twits...he was convicted of killing his grandmother... with a hammer. Maybe, he should have still been in jail. How it that, we should rehabilitate and not punish crap working for you? Wait, had he been executed, he wouldn't have been abel to do this. But, that would be cruel and unsual...whatever.

    ..

How does repeatedly striking someone with a HAMMER qualify as MANSLAUGHTER???

This is why we need strict gun control, now!
Posted by: Phineas on December 28, 2012 at 4:00 pm

“Guys like me love gun control!”
    ~ Al Capone

So we can be just like gun-banning Chicago: http://news.yahoo.com/chicago-reache...145951769.html

Chicago has logged its 500th homicide of 2012.

The last time the city reached the 500-homicide mark was in 2008, when the year ended with 512 killings. Last year, city records show Chicago had 435 homicides.

On Thursday, officials with the Chicago Police Department said the city was one homicide away from the 500 mark. Hours later, a 40-year-old man was fatally shot in the Austin neighborhood on the city’s West Side. Police say Nathaniel Jackson was found on the sidewalk outside a convenience store with a gunshot wound to the head late Thursday
See how much good gun control does?

Meanwhile, Jesse Jackson (1) tried desperately to defend Chicago’s gun ban: http://www.mediaite.com/tv/rev-jesse...ide-this-year/

Jackson was asked to defend Chicago’s gun ban, given the staggering rates of gun violence in America’s cities compared to other areas that do not have such strict gun laws and experience less gun violence.

“I think about Newtown, for example, they have three or four gun ranges. There are no gun ranges in Chicago,” Jackson replied. “Newtown is so different than the complexity of the urban crisis.”

“40 percent unemployment does matter,” Jackson continued. “Lack of education does matter.” He said that gun crime and joblessness are inextricably linked.

Jackson was asked again, given Chicago’s gun violence in spite of its strict gun laws, how even stricter gun laws can be justified.

“The guns are not coming from Chicago,” Jackson replied. “Chicago is in a bubble as the manufacturer — we’re a target market for gun flow. And they exploit the poverty and the pain.”

“It’s not gun violence. It’s also poverty and lack of education and lack of dreams, where people think killing is the only way out,” Jackson concluded. “This is the need for an urban policy of reconstruction.”
That’s pure Grade-A Great Society syrup there, ladled on thick. Trouble is, it deftly ignores some salient questions, such as that asked by Internet satirist Dave Burge, aka Iowahawk: https://twitter.com/iowahawkblog

    David Burge@iowahawkblog

Why does Chicago, with an ethnic and socioeconomic profile nearly identical to Houston, have almost 2x the gun homicide rate?

    28 Dec 12
And a further observation about civilized, urbane, liberal gun-banning Chicago versus knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, gun-fetishist Texas:

    David Burge@iowahawkblog

Texas has 2.2x as many gun homicides as Chicago. Texas has 10x the population of Chicago.

    28 Dec 12
Hmmm… Maybe the answer to Jackson’s “lack of dreams” isn’t to ban guns and set up a national “urban policy” (because the last one worked so well http://blogs.the-american-interest.c...-shade-of-lbj/ ), but to allow people to defend those dreams and their lives. Failing that, perhaps the good people of Chicago should consider moving to Texas and leaving that gun-free paradise to its fate.

The simple fact is that strict gun-control does not work, nor do gun buy-backs (PDF https://www.bja.gov/evaluation/e-news/apr-may10.pdf ). Chicago isn’t the only example. Great Britain in 1997 instituted a nearly total ban on handguns http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firearm...ment)_Act_1997 after the Dunblane school massacre, and the results have been awful: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...446855466.html

The results have not been what proponents of the act wanted. Within a decade of the handgun ban and the confiscation of handguns from registered owners, crime with handguns had doubled according to British government crime reports. Gun crime, not a serious problem in the past, now is. Armed street gangs have some British police carrying guns for the first time. Moreover, another massacre occurred in June 2010. Derrick Bird, a taxi driver in Cumbria, shot his brother and a colleague then drove off through rural villages killing 12 people and injuring 11 more before killing himself.
Gun control in the UK was first instituted under the 1920 Firearms Act, not, as one might think, to control “gun violence,” but out of fear of Bolshevik revolution. In spite of successively more restrictive measures, culminating in the 1997 confiscation of handguns, crime in Britain has gotten worse since 1954. http://reason.com/archives/2002/11/0...wisted-outcome (And it hasn’t stopped. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...#ixzz2FB3PHyXg )

While many gun-control advocates are barely concealed statist gun-grabbers http://www.nationalreview.com/corner...liana-johnson# who spit on our natural right to self-defense, I’ve no doubt that many others are sincerely moved by the horror such incidents as Sandy Hook, Dunblane, or Port Arthur and want to do something, anything to never let it happen again. But legislating based on emotion rarely leads to good results, as the history of gun control shows.

As Dan Mitchell likes to say, http://danieljmitchell.wordpress.com...gdoms-gun-ban/ “Bad government policy leads to more bad government policy.” If the previous gun-control law didn’t work the answer must be even-tighter regulations meant to discourage ownership, the inevitable destination of which is outright confiscation or its equivalent — “the Obamacare of gun control.” http://legalinsurrection.com/2012/12...f-gun-control/

And then we can all be just like Chicago.

Dick’s Sporting Goods is refusing to fill orders for guns that were paid for
December 30, 2012 By Cheryl Carpenter Klimek

In a move that potentially may spark a class action lawsuit, Dick’s Sporting Goods is refusing to fill orders for guns that were paid for weeks ago.

Russell Kellner of Flower Mound, Texas said he and his wife bought three Troy Defense Carbine Semi-Automatic Rifles on Black Friday at a cost of $799 each, a $300 dollar discount. “It was a heck of a deal,” said Kellner. They received two of them, but were then notified by Dick’s on Christmas Eve, that no more orders would be fulfilled.

Dick’s announced a week before Christmas it was suspending sales of modern sporting rifles in all stores, out of respect for the victims of the Connecticut massacre. The store has issued refunds and added a $100 gift card for the inconvenience, but Troy Blackall, who paid for two of the Troy Carbines at Dick’s and only received one says, “It’s unacceptable.”

“The guns have doubled and tripled in price now. So it’s not like we can get our money back and buy the guns someplace else,” Blackall said.

CBS DFW also reports that the manufacturer of the guns, Troy industries is “deeply dismayed and shocked that Dick’s stopped selling its rifle”, and that millions of dollars were invested after selecting Dick’s as the sole distributor of this particular rifle.

    See the entire report here:

Dicks is dead. troy industries will also sue and win.

This year, thousands have been killed and many more permanently harmed by drunk drivers. No ban or self policing of alcohol. o government outcry. Driving and drinking are privileges. Gun ownership is a right.

Flashback: Ted Nugent Shreds Piers Morgan to Pieces on Gun Control

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=SZCxArSFRcw

Say what you want about Ted Nugent. He’s opinionated- perhaps even pushy. However, in the age of overly-cautious soundbites and over-the-top sensitivity, Ted Nugent’s brand of in-your-face candor and unapologetic Americanism is as refreshing as iced tea on a hot summer day and as welcomed as a jacket on a cold winter night.

I was recently treated to a flashback of Nugent’s 2011 appearance on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight. In the above clip, Nugent hammered away at Morgan to such an extent that I had to share.

Piers Morgan, a British dandy who would know nothing of the pride of growing up in a nation that values an individual right to firearm ownership, has been quite vocal in recent weeks about gun control. Blind to the facts surrounding the controversial topic, the know-it-all Morgan who rose to national prominence judging trapeze artists with David Hasselhoff has been content with lashing out at anyone who challenges his narrative that guns, not ill-intent, causes gun violence.

And while it’s usually satisfying to see him put in his place by a political pundit, well-armed with facts and figures, it is particularly satisfying to see the fiery Nugent shred this pompous twit to pieces while simultaneously spouting facts and figures and telling Morgan to “kiss [his] ass.”

While Second Amendment-loving Americans stoop to liberal talking points and dignify questions like, “Why do you need an ‘assault weapon’ to hunt?” Nugent offers no apologies and proudly claims that those who wish to disarm him can “suck on [his] machine gun.”

Perhaps Nugent can be afforded more freedom than the average political pundit as he is both a musician and political figure; but I submit that when dealing with gun-grabbing fascists, we can all stand to be a little like the ‘Nuge.

Gun Control: When Defiance is Patriotism

Posted on December 27, 2012 by Greg Campbell

As America ponders gun control, one of the more salient points I have heard is indisputable and potent in its brevity: Gun control laws hinder the obtaining of illegal guns like drug laws control the obtaining of illegal drugs.

The truth is, throughout all this talk of “should we…,” not enough people are asking, “can we…?” The answer: No, banning guns has never worked.

Banning guns creates criminals from law-abiding citizens.

In a piece written by J.D. Tuccille of Reason.com, the process for obtaining a legal firearm permit is discussed. The hellish ordeal Tuccille describes gives a clear picture of why illegal guns continue to flow throughout society- because government has no interest in working with people to achieve honorable ends; they only wish to control them.

    Tuccille begins, http://reason.com/archives/2012/12/2...-bred-defian/1

“The sales clerk at the gun shop was helpful—he should have been. I paid a premium to have my paperwork submitted to the proper city paper-pushers by experts retained by the store. Although the term was never used, I assumed that meant the store made use of New York City’s peculiar breed of middlemen known as ‘expediters’ to get the permit processed. Eternally controversial, expediters are known for their detailed knowledge of the city’s byzantine regulatory procedures, their working relationships with bureaucrats, and their willingness to grease palms to make sure clients are given favorable consideration.

Even so, I waited. And I waited. And I finally blew my stack.

As the saying goes, I knew a guy who knew a guy. It took an email, a phone call, and a friendly meeting, and for less than 300 bucks, I was the proud owner of a semi-automatic variant of an AK-47—the famed assault rifle of the old Soviet bloc and of guerrilla fighters everywhere. It was legal in much of the United States, but strictly verboten in New York City.

And it cost me about a third of the ultimate price of that legal pistol.”
As is common in corrupt dictatorships, the means of getting special consideration from government bureaucrats is greasing palms. To exercise his Second Amendment rights, Tuccille had to pay off a middleman to get him what was already guaranteed to him in writing. And then, when the process became too ridiculously long, he went to the black market- the better game in town.

    He continued,

“As it turned out, the illicit rifle was not only cheaper and easier to obtain than the legal pistol, but the seller was much more pleasant to deal with than the cops administering the official process. The police officers at New York City’s One Police Plaza, once I actually got into the place, were flat-out rude. They weren’t abusive as much as surly in a special bureaucratic way, backed up by the implied threat that they could punish back-talk with a simple nudge of your papers into the trash can. I bit my tongue, but everybody has their own limit. A ‘customer’ at an adjoining desk in the cramped warren stood up, announced loudly that rather than put up with this treatment he’d buy his gun on the street, then stalked from the room.”
The right to keep and bear arms is a guaranteed right, not subject for further debate. It is deplorable that to exercise this right, one must not only ask for permission from the government, but must also pay them to ask for permission. Even worse, the process has become so convoluted that the man who wishes to exercise his right must pay a person to advocate for them in their quest to pay the government to ask for permission to own a firearm. Does anyone else see something wrong with this picture?

For a frame of reference, British subjects threw the Boston Tea Party as a protest of a fairly minor tax on the importation of tea. The Stamp Act, one of the so-called “intolerable acts,” was a modest tax on official stamps to be used on documents. We waged a revolution based, in part, on a principle that each man was sovereign, that government intrusion had become too unbearable. And now, we face crushing taxation, limits on speech, a government prone to retribution for dissent, rampant violations of privacy and a government that looks to curtail our right to bear arms while insisting that they are not.

I advocate not that revolution is the answer; I merely suggest we no longer support the incremental adding of links to the chain of tyranny to which we have all become too accustomed.

Earth First ('Prank' Hit List), Gannett's Journal News (Pistol Permit Holders)

    By Tom Blumer | December 24, 2012

What similarities are there between a domestic terrorist organization and the alleged journalists at the Journal News headquartered in White Plains, New York? At least two biggies: total lack of respect for privacy and complete disregard for others' safety. The domestic terror group Earth First has an "EAT(IT) "Eco Assassin Team (in Training)," which has tired of "the stale old debate about adopting nonviolence as a movement principle." Accordingly, the Earth First Journal (HT to J. Christian Adams at PJ Media; those wishing to go to the original need to go there first, as I would rather not directly link) has published a top ten "'Eco-F***ers Prank-Hit List,' at least until we come up with something more creative."

The Journal News has published its own (conveniently unbylined) list, complete with interactive maps. The maps contain "the addresses (and names) of all pistol permit holders in Westchester and Rockland counties." Really: http://www.lohud.com/interactive/art...hood-?gcheck=1

To create the map, The Journal News submitted Freedom of Information requests for the names and addresses of all pistol permit holders in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam. By state law, the information is public record.

The paper does not identify how publishing all of these names and addresses furthers its alleged "long and distinguished history of service to the residents and businesses in New York’s Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties." http://mediakit.lohud.com/article/99...age-Innovation Because it doesn't.

What it does is two things:

•Gives criminals an easy roadmap for identifying homes from which they might steal guns.

    • Arguably more dangerously, it identifies who doesn't have "pistols" as targets who will likely be less able to resist robbery, assault, or worse, both at home and especially in public.

Which of the two is the bigger danger is an open question. I believe it's the latter. If I'm right, the publishing of these maps should disturb the unarmed far more than those who are armed.

The Earth First Journal lists an address at the bottom of its newsletter issue. The Journal News's address can be found at its "about" page. No, I'm not going to identify either of them here, but Instapundit's question in response to what the Journal News has done is more than appropriate: "I guess nobody could object to people putting the newspaper staff’s addresses on the Web now, right?" http://pjmedia.com/instapundit/160286/

    Right.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who has publicly stated that "confiscation is an option," certainly will have an easier time carrying out such a wish now, won't he? http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tom-blu...ould-be-option

The anti-gun Journal News, who published the list of New York gun owners a few weeks ago, got such a negative reaction that they got scared and - ultimate irony - now has armed security at their offices!
