This whole bunch of steer we call the horny bunch

PUTNAM COUNTY, Florida, June 19, 2007 (NBC) - In a remote part of Putnam County, Florida is a big pasture with a herd of cattle. The only thing is the herd is not like anything you have probably ever seen.

What makes the head of 32 special is on top of the thousands of pounds worth of meat sits an enormous set of horns that could slice right through you.

"This whole bunch of steer we call the horny bunch," Buster Waggener said, who takes care of the exotic cattle.

They are Long-Tusis, a cross between a Longhorn and a Watusis. The group is so rare; you can't find them in too many places. That is why traffic along county road 315, in Putnam County, often stops for a quick look.

"They're a novelty,” Waggener said. “Everybody likes to stop by.”

The largest of the bunch is Wide Clyde.

"He's 10 feet through the swell,” Waggener said. “He's 7'9" from tip to tip."

While Wide Clyde has everybody beat on horn size, his brother wins in weight at 2,400 pounds.

For the most part, they don't do much of anything. They stand, stare and eat all day long. They are calm creatures who wouldn't mind if you came close for a touch but it's not a good idea.

Most of the cattle have battle wounds from the rush in for food, and they've scratched up their friends and family.

But those horns are good for something.

"They can take the tip of the horn and hit him (flies),” Waggener said. “They know exactly where their tips are at all times.”

A fly doesn't have a chance and neither does the Lone Star state.

These guys prove not everything is bigger in Texas.

Somewhere in Texas, there is a man with a big white Cadillac who is salivating at the site of those horns.
The oil is all in Texas, but the dipsticks are in D.C.
