Media Covers up Democrat-Backed Planned Parenthood’s Support for Infanticide
By: Chairman Reince Priebus | April 3rd, 2013 at 01:34 PM

For almost as long as there have been two parties, there have been accusations of mainstream media bias. Conservatives know it’s real. Liberals insist it’s imagined. Bias is evident not only in how events are covered but also in what is covered—and more importantly what is not covered.

Consider two events from last week. First, in North Dakota the governor signed into law bills that would ban abortions when a fetal heartbeat is present and when the procedure is sought solely because of the baby’s genetics. The media, including most major outlets, went into a frenzy to stir up controversy, often casting pro-life conservatives in a negative light.

Then later in the week in Florida, lawmakers held a hearing about a bill to protect the lives of babies born during an attempted abortion procedure. The bill requires the abortionist to provide medical care to the newborn. It might seem obvious that a newborn should be cared for—but not to Planned Parenthood.

They sent a lobbyist to the Florida legislature to testify in opposition to the bill. Here are some excerpts between the legislators and the lobbyist, Alisa LaPolt Snow, published earlier in the Weekly Standard. They pretty much speak for themselves. http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/...on_712198.html

Rep. Jim Boyd: “If a baby is born on a table as a result of a botched abortion, what would Planned Parenthood want to have happen to that child that is struggling for life?”

Snow: “We [Planned Parenthood] believe that any decision that’s made should be left up to the woman, her family, and the physician.”

    ***

Rep. Daniel Davis: “What happens in a situation where a baby is alive, breathing on a table, moving? What do your physicians do at that point?”

Snow: “I do not have that information. I am not a physician. I am not an abortion provider. So I do not have that information.”

    ***

Rep. Jose Oliva: “You stated that a baby born alive on a table as a result of a botched abortion that that decision should be left to the doctor and the family. Is that what you’re saying?”

Snow: “That decision should be between the patient and the health care provider.”

Oliva: “I think that at that point the patient would be the child struggling on the table, wouldn’t you agree?”

Snow: “That’s a very good question. I really don’t know how to answer that. I would be glad to have some more conversations with you about this.”

You can watch the shocking exchange here—because you certainly didn’t see it on the news, a prime example of media bias.

And that bias is so upsetting because this largely uncovered event has serious implications.

Not once in her testimony did the Planned Parenthood representative say the newborn baby has a right to life. Not once did she say anyone has a duty to care for the child. Whether the living, breathing child survives is up to the adults in the room because, as we now know, Planned Parenthood doesn’t believe the baby has rights.

Planned Parenthood is an organization that receives taxpayer funding, including millions from the federal government. They also enjoy the unwavering support of almost all elected Democrats.

The President, the Senate Majority Leader, the House Democratic Leader, and the Chair of the Democratic National Committee (in whose home state this hearing occurred) made funding Planned Parenthood an issue in the 2012 campaign. They should now all be held to account for that outspoken support. If the media won’t, then voters must ask the pressing questions: Do these Democrats also believe a newborn has no rights? Do they also endorse infanticide?

I certainly hope not. I hope this is a place where we can all find common ground. Surely, all Americans can agree that a newborn deserves immediate medical care—and, if necessary, emergency care—regardless of the circumstances of birth.

As a proud pro-life Republican, I firmly believe that an unborn child has a right to life. I realize there are those who disagree, but I never thought there was a debate over whether a newborn child had a right to life. Some may not believe life begins at conception, but don’t we all agree life begins at birth?

    Apparently not.

Liberals often attack conservative lawmakers for casting a wary eye toward federal and state funding for Planned Parenthood. They can’t seem to comprehend why anyone would oppose giving taxpayer dollars to the abortion provider. Maybe now they can understand.

In the last election, Republicans were repeatedly asked about whether they supported cutting funding to Planned Parenthood. It’s time Democrats are asked whether they still support funding an organization that refuses to care for a newborn.

And this case of blatant media bias—cover-up really—should also be cause for some thoughtful self-examination among journalists.

That's a rough video to watch. 41% of pregnancies aborted. Lord help us. What, as a society, are we doing? They can't even say the words baby, fetus, kill.....politically correct terms only. We don't want anyone's feeling hurt.

In 1965, seven years before Roe v Wade, less then 10 percent of American babies were born to unwed mothers -- 24 percent to unwed black women and 3.1 percent to unwed white women. As of 2010, this was up to 41 percent of our babies born to unwed mothers -- 73 percent to black women and 29 percent to white women. Sixty percent of our out-of-wedlock births are to women in their 20's. Soon, as our resources diminish to care for our growing aging population, we will start dealing with our elderly as we do our unborn. But if everything is meaningless, who cares?" --columnist Star Parker

CNN legal analyst: Gosnell media blackout a ‘business decision’ and not evidence of bias
    By Doug Powers • April 28, 2013 02:22 PM

Talk to a lot of mainstream reporters and they’ll often lament how the corporate “bottom line” too often dictates what they are and aren’t able to report. However, as CNN’s legal analyst demonstrated, the “business decisions” excuse can provide the media convenient, albeit laughably weak, cover: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/matt-ha...snell-blackout (video at link )

ANDERSON COOPER: Joe, you have been in the courtroom. You have been following this trial. David, obviously, you picked up on this a long time ago. There’s been a lot of criticism of mainstream media, Jeff, for not covering this in the same way they covered the Jodi Arias trial or, you know, it’s not front page news in a lot of places. This is the first night we are covering it. Why do you think that is, that it hasn’t received the kind of front page coverage of it?

JEFFREY TOOBIN, CNN senior legal analyst: Well, the people making those criticisms by and large are conservatives, who are saying the liberal media is trying to protect abortion rights by not showing this horror show. I don’t buy that at all. You know, I think, I can only speak for CNN, and my knowledge of sort of this part of the media, the New Yorker where I work, I have some sense of, you know, mainstream New York Times. They don’t cover a story, it’s a business decision. We are not operating with a political agenda here. We pick stories, by and large, for reasons that we think people will be interested. I don’t think we’re covering this up. So, I just think that’s a way of trying to ginning up their supporters.
The trial of somebody who murdered babies and maimed women isn’t a story people are interested in? http://newsbusters.org/blogs/matt-ha...-not-gosnell-t For a while, CNN opted for better business decisions resulting in stories that would reel in a much larger share of news consumers, such as Mark Sanford’s “soap opera” and the “North Pond hermit” thief in Maine.

Related: And after all CNN has done for him, this is how President Obama thanks them? http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sh...#ixzz2RlfJHVs8

Update: Erick emails bit of perspective on why Toobin might want to avoid the subject. http://www.nydailynews.com/entertain...ticle-1.446944

By them making their decisions based on "business decisions" also implies that the people who fund you dictate what articles get written. They went from being a news source to a trade publication.

    ....

How many reporters were sent to Alaska to read Palin emails..?

    ..

insurgent sniper killing an American soldier? Did we really want to see that? I think we would have preferred the opposite.

    ...

Follow the money ... this is a billion dollar - cash on the barrel - BUSINESS.

    ..

they are right, it is a bad business decision to air this story, many abortion clinics may be closed because of this story, and that is bad for business. the democrats need abortion to be a thriving business to keep thier agenda alive, no matter how many babies are dead.

    ..

That sounds to be precisely the business the decision regarded. Do NOTHING to endanger the continued business of abortion !

    ...

You don't cover the trial for one and only one reason......if people saw the clinic, the babies, the baby parts and the filthy, disgusting conditions and filthy, disgusting people operating this place, Roe v. Wade would be overturned in the wink of an eye. -OR - If they did show the filth and disgusting conditions, the bleeding heart libbulls would want to throw money at it and clean it up, and find out some connection to Boooooosh.

    ..

ignorance is bliss.....5 minutes of this story would change even the most hardened baby killer

    ..

Actually no, the hardened baby killers think that the death of a black child is a good thing. Abortion and birth control are the solutions to the "negro problem" as Planned Parenthood's founder, eugenicist Margaret Sanger said.

How many times have you heard liberals chastise conservatives for "Opposing abortion, but being unwilling to pay welfare for the children who otherwise would be born." Think about that statement and what it says about the motives behind the liberal support for abortion.

    ..

Seems pretty clear to me, since most of the babies butchered by Gosnell were black, that CNN is racist. As racist as Gosnell, he had back stairs for a white only waiting room and ~ slightly cleaner facilities ~ because they feared "white women" would be more likely to complain about conditions.

    ..

3 dead in Boston gets wall to wall coverage. 4 baby killing moms and their doctor gets crickets? Here's why: the Boston marathon bombing - with close to 200 injured plus the 3 dead - took place in an area where you don't expect violence to happen---a city's downtown central business district. Where Gosnell's clinic was---you expect violence to happen because it's in the inner city. Naturally, the unexpected will get more coverage.

Obama becomes first sitting president to address Planned Parenthood
    1:02 PM 04/26/2013

President Obama became the first sitting U.S. president to deliver a speech to Planned Parenthood on Friday. The organization is America’s leading abortion provider.

During a speech at the Planned Parenthood National Conference in Washington, Obama told the room of about 1,000 attendees that the organization is here to stay, despite efforts by Republicans to strip the group of federal funding. Planned Parenthood received $542 million in federal funding in 2012. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013...payer-support/

“[N]o matter how great the challenge of opposition,” Obama told the crowd, “Planned Parenthood is not going anywhere. It’s not going anywhere today, it’s not going anywhere tomorrow.”

USA Today reports that President Obama never once mentioned the word “abortion” during his remarks, only the “right to choose.”

“One core principle has guided everything you do: that women should make their own decisions about their health,” Obama said. “Yet there are those in Congress who still want to turn back the clock with policies of the 1950s in the 21st century.” http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/p...peech/2115447/

Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards lauded Obama for passing Obamacare, which forces health insurers to raise rates on men to meet the higher cost of insuring women. “Because of President Obama, being a woman is no longer a pre-existing condition in America,” she exclaimed in her introduction of the president.

“Thank you Planned Parenthood. God bless you. God bless you,” Obama concluded.

My thing is.... what on earth would God BE blessing? It's not as if they are curing cancer or feeding homeless or training the unemployed. They are disposing of unwanted babies. I can't understand how that's worthy of a blessing by anyone.

"Taxpayer money represents 33 percent of Planned Parenthood's income"
"It is absolutely incredible," said Jim Sedlak, vice president of American Life League, "but the annual report just released by Planned Parenthood Federation of America shows that $114 million of the government funds received by Planned Parenthood were not needed and only increased the abortion giant's assets."

Sedlak was referring to the 2006 -- 2007 PPFA annual report released late last week. The report shows that PPFA had a total income of $1.02 billion. Of that total, $258.7 million came from donations; $366.9 million came from fees charged customers at its clinics; and a whopping $336.7 million came from the American taxpayer.

The report also showed that PPFA recorded a profit of $114.8 million and increased its total assets to $1.12 billion. "Taxpayer money represents 33 percent of Planned Parenthood's income," continued Sedlak, "yet it is clear that it does not need all this money. In these days of financial hardship all across the country, why are American taxpayers being forced to fund a billion dollar corporation that clearly does not need the money?"
Planned Parenthood tops $1 billion in assets
Posted by or from a variety of publications on EducationViews.orgon January 2, 2012in Health

46% of group’s income comes from taxpayers

The nation’s largest abortion provider topped $1 billion in total net assets in 2009-2010, its not the first time reaching that mark, according to Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report.

The report, released Friday, is sure to rekindle Republican lawmakers’ efforts to defund the organization in 2012. Five of the GOP presidential candidates have also signed a pledge to defund Planned Parenthood.

Almost half of the group’s annual revenue — 46 percent — comes from taxpayers in the form of grants, contracts and Medicaid payments, according to an analysis by the anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List.

Planned Parenthood said it does not receive any federal funding for abortions — only for contraception, prevention and other medical services for low-income women. “With over a billion in net assets and a business model centered on abortion and government subsidies,” SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement, “it is time for Planned Parenthood to end its reliance on taxpayer dollars.”

Planned Parenthood report reveals $87.4 million excess revenue; $1.2 billion assets
by Susan Michelle Tyrell - January 8, 2013, 3:55 pm ET

Americans often look with disdain on people who continually live off government assistance. While those from left to right would generally concur that welfare programs can be helpful for those in times of crisis, the majority of people grow weary, and even angry, when people live off of Uncle Sam for years on end.

This reality makes a mystery of the tolerance of Planned Parenthood’s dependence on Uncle Sam (and Uncle Obama). As we reported yesterday, Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report for the 2011-2012 reporting year shows that abortions were up by a few thousand. A total of 333,964 babies were killed in Planned Parenthood affiliates last year, and our government has helped line the abortion giant’s pocketbooks.

It’s no secret that Planned Parenthood receives both state and federal taxpayer funds, but somehow seeing it in full color in a season of American budget crises and the impending 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade gives this reality more of an impact.

A full 45% of Planned Parenthood’s funds are attributable to “Government Health Services Grants and Reimbursements.” This amounted to $542 million last year. While a drop in the bucket of our federal budget crisis, it does remind us that the government prioritizes an abortion provider, whether the money is “technically” for abortion or not, in a time of economic crisis.

Astoundingly, however, Planned Parenthood isn’t suffering for money. In fact, the same report declares an excess of $87.4 million in revenue and $1.2 billion in assets.

Planned Parenthood’s financial prosperity is aided in great part by its hefty government contributions. Clearly, it is a business doing well enough on its own, yet, like a person who bilks the system and takes from the real needy, Planned Parenthood openly takes its government handouts, builds up its assets, and kills its 333,964 liabilities.

The question we must ask is how this continues to happen even as public schools, charities, and service organizations lose money. Is the nation really so unaware of the abundance of riches the abortion giant possesses? Or are merely misled by the media, which makes Planned Parenthood sound like a happy health organization?

There was much ado about the TIME Magazine story last week whose cover announced that abortion activists have been “losing ever since” their Roe v. Wade victory.

But are we winning? When we see a report like this from the number-one provider of abortions in the nation, we dare not rest on the idea that TIME says we’re winning because we keep introducing laws to restrict abortion. Certainly we have made extraordinary advances, but as someone pointed out, with the advances science has made, the question of life should have been settled a long time ago. Whether abortion is taking a life or not ought not even be a debate with the technology we have to show the beginning of life.

We aren’t winning until Planned Parenthood is defunded, until abortion is a bad chapter of history. We don’t win until the voiceless can speak.

And as Planned Parenthood victoriously reported, 333,964 of them last year never got a chance to open their mouths.

Wisconsin Planned Parenthood Clinics Begin Closing After State Eliminates Funding
The Huffington Post | By Nick Wing Posted: 04/23/2013 3:45 pm EDT

Planned Parenthood began the process of shuttering a number of its Wisconsin clinics late last week, a move the women's health provider says is due to a measure pushed by Gov. Scott Walker (R) and state Republicans to strip it of state funding.

On Friday, the Planned Parenthood clinic in Shawano, Wis., closed its doors, Fox 11 reported, becoming the first of four planned closures announced in February.

"Governor's Walker's decision to turn away federal resources that would fill health coverage gaps in Wisconsin, coupled with his budget proposal to end BadgerCare coverage for women making over $11,490 a year is a challenge to the future of women's health," Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin CEO Teri Huyck said in a statement, according to CBS 58.

HuffPost's Laura Bassett reported in February on the legislative action that Planned Parenthood said forced it to announce the closures: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/0...tml?1361209500
Gov. Scott Walker (R) and the Republican-controlled state legislature passed a budget in 2011 that eliminates public funding for low-income and uninsured patients seeking reproductive health care at Planned Parenthood, the largest provider in the state, because some of its clinics offer abortions. The budget cuts defunded nine family planning health centers, which provide birth control, cervical and breast cancer screenings, annual exams, STD testing and treatment, Well Women Exams, pregnancy testing, and HIV testing.
Three other clinics, in Chippewa Falls, Beaver Dam and Johnson Creek, are set to close by July. Altogether, Planned Parenthood estimates that more than 2,000 patients will be affected by the closures.

In February, officials with Planned Parenthood said they would continue providing health services at the 23 remaining centers across Wisconsin.

No Major Religion Has Ever “Blessed” Abortion Like Obama Did
by Steven Ertelt | Washington, DC | 4/29/13 1:52 PM

If you missed it, President Obama gave a twelve-minute speech at the abortion giant’s annual gala, and finished with, “Thank you, Planned Parenthood. God bless you.”

There are so many things wrong with this, but let’s focus on the fact that it doesn’t make any sense. On this, pro-lifers and pro-choicers should agree.

First, Planned Parenthood. It is the nation’s largest abortion business. Abortion provides more of its revenues than any other product or service. It slices, stabs, chemical burns, and vacuums humans to death for $500-$900 a head.

Now God. Certainly, God is opposed to the cruel termination and destruction of His creation. No God would bless man’s arrogation of His role as he who gives and he who takes away. In fact, very early on God strongly registered His displeasure with man’s presumption that he might “be like God, knowing good and evil.” For these and other reasons no major religion has ever blessed abortion. But on Friday, April 26, President Obama did.

And just to cover all the bases, we can also agree that a thinking atheist wouldn’t invoke God. Without a belief in God and creation, one would not say “God bless.”

Therefore, given Planned Parenthood’s business, God’s favorable view of his own work as good, and the thinking atheist clarification, Barack Obama’s statement of blessing makes no sense.

The president’s nonsense brings to mind Hannah Arendt’s “banality of evil,” a phrase she coined fifty years ago after attending the trial of Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann. Arendt was commenting not just on the commonality of evil, but on its signature lack of depth and mental effort.

Arendt’s observations of evil’s thoughtlessness are recounted in an article by Alessandra Stoppa titled “Journey Into the Heart of Nothingness.” The author recalls Eichman’s vapid final words before being hanged, in which he both rejected eternal life and vowed “we shall all meet again.” More nonsense. Stoppa elaborates: http://www.traces-cl.com/

‘Evil is banal because it has no root,’ wrote Arendt… Banality is, therefore, this ‘absence of thought.’ It was not that Eichmann was stupid. He was thoughtless, ‘something by no means identical to stupidity.’ The evil of which Arendt speaks is ‘distance from reality’ — from oneself, first of all. It is a void of reason, caused by a lack of relationship with facts.
Arendt’s comments about evil caused a stir, particularly because she observed Eichmann to be “neither demoniac nor monstrous.” He was aware of the consequences of his actions. He was not mentally ill. His evil was frustrating because it had no identifiable root, nothing on which to affix blame other than a fallen nature that was apparently common. As Arendt later said, “Only good is radical.”

Eichmann’s banality was simply his being “out of the habit of thinking” and having an “incapacity to let himself be interrogated by the facts.” He lived in the superficial and used innocuous words to empty reality of its meaning — executions were “mercy deaths” and “medical questions.” It was easy and lazy to see death camps as medical research facilities. (It is interesting that Eichmann’s “medical questions” (today’s “healthcare”) was a useful obfuscation; as if the presence of sterilized instruments, a lab coat or scrubs could validate a monstrous act.)

Eichmann’s thoughtless linguistic fictions were the mechanism by which Nazism achieved its humanity-denying distance and requisite alienation. Nazis gave us “terminate, liquidate and evacuate” for murder; “cleansing” for killing; “bacillus” for Jew; and, “resettlement” for death camp. Loading Zyklon B poison gas pellets from the roofs of Auschwitz gas chambers was antiseptically procedural, but it was antiseptically procedural murder. On a related note, Gosnell’s dirty late-term abortion operation is a disgrace, but Tiller’s antiseptically clean late term abortion clinic was deemed model healthcare for women.

Abortion ideologues have likewise given us the fictions of “potential human being,” “product of conception,” “pre-embryo,” “fetus,” “fetal tissue,” “fetal matter,” “medical waste,” “garbage,” “parasite” and “punishment” for baby and human. One abortion doctor described an abortion as a “defense mechanism …against the local invasion …and deleterious effects of the parasite.” Like Eichmann, they are aware of the results of their actions. They are not mentally ill.

Pope Benedict once commented that “the world is suffering from a lack of thought.” In her disturbing observations of Adolf Eichmann, Hannah Arendt concurred. In fact, our failure to think and the banality of evil are on display in the disconnect between revulsion at Gosnell, who induced labor and then killed, and the continued defense of so many others who kill first. The Gosnell trial has exposed abortion’s failure of logic and reliance on the non-sequitur of human outside the womb but inhuman inside it.

What we, as politically-obligated citizens and a nation, do with that obvious non-sequitur will determine if we are just common and unthinking, or radically good. In a void of reason, we can invoke God’s blessing on abortion and pretend Planned Parenthood does mammograms; or we can let ourselves be interrogated by the facts, bear witness and tip the scale. If we refuse to think, we are as common as the many Germans who did the same in Eichmann’s era.
