Been out "trash pickin' " again
This time I scored a novel with color illustrations and a reference Bible with illustrations both published before 1923 (making them public domain). I dont know what to do with the Bible after I take the illustrations out of it, the pages are falling out of it now. I don't want to throw it away, even though it was being thrown out when I found it. But if I put it on Freecycle, who would want it? I thought about putting pages from it in the collage packs Im making up but that idea doesnt sit well with me. I am thinking that a Sunday School class could use in making pictures about Bible verses, like cutting out a verse from the Bible and making a picture about it. Any ideas?

Where do you do trash picking? From dumpsters? or from the curb where people have put trash? Years ago we could go to the city dump and climb through it but of course that isn't allowed now. And to jump in a dumpster, no , I wouldn't do that now but might have years ago.

I know where the library sets out the books they dont want (and feels they can't sell) on Friday afternoon for pick up on Monday. I dont have to get into a dumpster, its just "curb shopping".

Honestly, I don't think that the children cutting books (especially the Bible) is a good idea. I am just being honest. I had a set of animal encyclopedias that my dad got from the garbage (he runs the town recycling) and I did not want the books, but was going to let my day care kids cut them up. I am a huge book lover and just could not do it. I think it sends the wrong message to kids about how books should be respected.

I see your point. The Bible I trash picked is falling apart, so it isn't much use as it is. Remember, it was being thrown out. What is worse, throwing out a Bible, or using it to inform and educate people about it thru art? But you are right in saying that if you just let kids cut up books then they might cut up their parents library. My mother used to let me cut up her magazines, after she read them, for collage. She made it clear that I was susposed to ask permission, not just cut them up
