Why do some stores do this???
Ok, I'm sure you're all aware of the coupons for the free 18 oz. purina puppy chow coupons. The only place I was able to find these was at a kroger in the next town over so I was excited when they came out in the next Sunday's paper thinking I'd be able to trade for a bunch and save on dog food. After the first coupon came out Kroger quickly pulled it's stock of the small boxes. I asked to speak with the manager as to when they'd be getting more in as the coupon had come out again with more than a month til the expiration. He told me there would absolutely positively not be any more of the 18 oz. boxes in the store because it was a one time promotion from purina for people to try a smaller size. I asked him if he was sure as purina had put out another coupon and should probably supply stores with the product, again I was told there would not be anymore as it was pruninas promotion.
Guess what was in the store today a day before the coupons expire???? Why do stores pull specials that there are good coupons for? What are they out if they mail in the coupons and get back a handling fee on top of the coupon value??? This happens at my Walmart too, because they match prices, items I see everytime we go shopping will suddenly disappear off the shelves when a competitor has them on sale....anybody in the grocery store industry know anything about this? ![]() Quote:

I know our Walmart will pull Pepsi cubes when they are on sale at a super low price. One night before a sale was to start at our local Giant Eagle for Pepsi I was at Walmart and saw them pulling stock.

Re: Why do some stores do this???
I've never noticed stores doing this. I can kind of see them doing it if they price match. Not that it makes it right that they do it.
But for coupons I don't get why they would do that. If I'm not mistaken I believe the manufactory reimburses them plus they get a little extra for taking them. So they would end up making a little money for there trouble of taking them. Granted I don't think they get much for each coupon but it adds up. |

Re: Why do some stores do this???
Call the main office for the store and tell them what was done and then contact Purina I am sure they would like to know that you were lied to and that their product wasn't made available to customers for almost 30 days.

Re: Why do some stores do this???
I assumed as much that it was a promotion type thing. I never saw the boxes on the shelves, nor did I ever see a spot for them on the shelf. They were always in one of those cardboard display things. I had a coupon today and they didn't have them at Albertsons anymore, as we were leaving I was walking towards the aisle again and noticed one hidden on the bottom shelf pushed to the back where the dog treats are.

I thought wal-mart was suppose to have lower prices than anyone anyhow?? i would be calling corporate headquarters....and then i'd call one of those nosey tv reporters that does 'consumer reports'....lol. and what sense does it make to pull items when the competition has it on sale? thats just going to make me go back over to the competition. (i hate wal-mart anyhow..lol).

Re: Why do some stores do this???
I noticed this at walmart when those free razor coupons came out. Everytime I went the razors would be gone. Then the day before the coupon expired I went back and they had them a whole shelf full plus a couple racks.
