I know you don't want to pay for Antivirus but sometimes you got to. I personally love Trend Micro. They have a free online scanner though. You can just google for it. It scans for and removes nasties for free. Its called Housecall or something like that.
Though if you want install programs for free AVG and Avast for Antivirus. Windows is giving out free Antivirus (maybe in the future). There was talk about it in my business magazine.
For antispyware - spybot search and destroy.
Firewall - Zone Alarm.
