Hi.. Does anyone know how to get your credit score for free?
I know how to get your credit report online for free, (thanks to OP on this board ) but it does not show your FICO score, and it says you have to buy your score. Any ideas. I am really starting to establish my own credit and was wondering my score. I hope to be able to purchase a house in the next year or two.
Many thanks...

The 3 top credit bureaus will only give you your credit score if you pay. The only thing they give you free, is one copy of your credit report, per year.

This probably is not something you'd want to do necessarily...but if you apply for a Washington Mutual Credit Card (and get accepted), they give you your credit- score for free. My husband uses this card and gets his score free.
However:
https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp
does charge you to get your credit-score, but I believe this site is much cheaper than most credit score sites....
anyway...not sure if any of this helps...

the gov't is actually changing the way it compiles your score in early to mid-2008. if you're planning on getting your fico score now, it could be completely different come june. if i was you, i'd wait until all the new regulations are in place and then get a copy of your score.

Aside from the credit card companies providing their subscribers with the score, I don't think there is a free site to get that score, as there is for the credit reports.
I have a WaMu card, and I can get my FICO score from their site.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) passed a law in 2004 regarding credit reports, but that did not include the FICO scores.

Since you can get your report from 3 different companies and it's free once a year, I would get one and then in a few months get another then skip a few months and it's almost time for your free ones again. I did get my FICO score and it wasn't much. About $5 I believe. There's Experian, Transunion, and Equifax. You can get one of each, once a year.

How FICO 08 Changes Your Credit Score
The FICO system, whose credit scores lenders use to determine whether you're credit-worthy and how favorable to set the terms, is set for a makeover. An article in today's WSJ reveals more of the changes in store than previously disclosed, here's how they'll affect your credit score:
+ situations where scores will rise, - situations where scores will fall
+ Mess up every so often
- Consumers who consistently mess up
+ Won't get dinged as hard when you apply for credit from multiple sources
+ Having a mix of credit types, like having a credit card, mortgage, and auto loan at the same time
- Spending near the limit of your total available credit
+ If you're 90 days late on payments on one account and your other credit accounts are in good standing
- 90 days late and you have other delinquent accounts
- Being an authorized user on someone else's account with good credit will no longer help your score
