I'm not sure if this is what you were looking for, but I have used AVG for years without any problem...

Re: Can't Find Free Anti Virus Thread

R you running Windows XP HOME Edition? If so , open your browser and select Tools then Pop up blocker and see if it is onthen select settings on the pop up blocker menu and set it to low high or medium. You can also check of a box to alert you if pop ups blocked or to play a sound when they are blocked. If that doesn't work click tools again then select internet options from the drop down menu that appears.Select the Privacy tab and make sure that Block pop up windows has a check by it.If all else fails and I mean all else, then again do Tools>internet options and then select the advanced tab.You can then set internet explorer back to its default settings. If you have any add ons( coupon toolbar, google bar etc.) these are add ons and you can make them appear again after the reset, you will not lose them. You would again select Tools then Manage Add ons then enable or disable add ons - all of your add ons that you have used with your browser will be listed and you will be able to enable them again...or disable any that you think may have been in conflict with your pop up blocker! Hope this helps you Keoka3

Re: Can't Find Free Anti Virus Thread

Doming3735 be careful of testing the norton betas from the above links! If you also have the betas for Microsoft Defender,Media Player 11 and Internet Explorer 7 there are possible conflicts with the Norton.Check microsoft.com for any advice and also for security patch warnings.Norton usually takes some time to catchup after Microsoft has introduced a new feature or version of an operating system. There is usually no support for a beta also in its first incarnation and many on this board may not want that kind of headache. On the upside, I like Norton and appreciate the link and info you have posted.I am building myself a gaming PC, so I will probably download the betas and put them on a disc until I have my LAN Party Machine ready! LOL
Thanks again for the info...will save me some bucks...Norton is a bit pricey so your info was right on time

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 Free AVG virus scanner

Keoka3, if you authorized MSN Messenger to give you popups during installation (I think they call it a sponsor) no popup blocker will stop them because you allowed MSN to run. About all you can do with that is uninstall and reinstall MSN Messenger, and then read everything on each message screen before clicking OK, making sure to uncheck the box to authorize the sponsor.

Re: Can't Find Free Anti Virus Thread

I bought Norton because that's what we use at work. But some time ago I tried Trendmicro and it found a virus that Norton and AVG missed. Go to trendmicro.com and do a virus scan from their site. It's the best.

Re: Can't Find Free Anti Virus Thread

I bought Norton years ago never even used it, you can't depend on one antivirus for protection. Never run more then one at a time, disable one Or they will fight with one another. All the ones above are great.

For spyware.
