Being from Louisiana, we always used tooth paste on our bug bites. My Grandmother would swear by it. Then again we also put D.S.M.O. on burns. It's real interesting stuff. It's a by-product of the paper mills. You use it and you can taste the mill for a solid week, but you won't have a scar.

The toothpaste really works well...I think it's interesting that you posted this one Creole_Queen, because I thought my family was the only one that did that...And I'm from Louisiana too!!! Strange.... What part are you from (I'm from around Lafayette...Scott actually...)

microgoddess--I'm from Baton Rouge, but spent summers in Varnado(about seven miles north of Bogalusa) at my grandparents. That's how we had access to the DSMO. the local drug stores would get it from Crown Zellerback and sell it. We also use meat tenderizer for stings as well as tobacco.
