Question Does anyone know how to preserve Gardenias? Jolie Rouge?

This house that we moved to last July has a great yard and things are blooming all around. We have enjoyed a spring filled with all kinds of "bulb" flowers, roses, lilies, blue hydrangea, and more. There is also a very large Gardenia bush that is blooming.

I have seen the flower posts, Jolie Rouge, so I thought you might know. I thought a whole bunch of preserved gardenia flowers would be a nice gift for my MIL who likes them.

Thanks!

Unhappy ;( I am sorry :(

I have to say that I have never had any luck with preserving flowers short of pressing & pounding. When I tried drying them (by silicate or air) they tend to turn yellow and fall apart or just mildew & mold. Too much humidy here.... I will try looking up something. Have you tried www.marthastewart.com ? She has an archive of past "Good Things" and it sounds like a Martha-moment to me ! I think you can even post questions - it couldn't hurt to try. Please keep us posted with your efforts....

I was in Gatlinburg, TN,holding a rose, waiting for my family to come down out of the space needle, or whatever that thing is. A lady (I could hardly understand her, she was not from the States and I am from the South) told me to hang my rose upside down and spray with hairspray. Just hairspray, I asked. She told me she had done it many times, according to her accent. I've tried 2-3 times with no avail. Maybe I don't let them dry enough? I have tried a couple of ways with no success, if you want to take her word for it, you give it a try as well. You may have many flowers to experiment with. That is all I understood, hand upside down and spray with hairspray.

I bookmarked that site, here is what it says about Gardenias, what to use, etc.
Gardenia Foliage; glycerin, Turns an attractive black. I don't want a black gardenia.

Maybe there isn't a WAY to keep them white. Because that site really has the info on preserving flowers.
