Lightbulb "Recipes" In A Jar : Sand Art Cookies; Brownies; ECT

SAND ART COOKIES - organic and healthy!
You can easily use regular ingredients however for you
"not so healthy minded" friends and family.

1 cup raw cane sugar
1/2 cup whole rolled oats
1/2 cup carob coated candy pieces
1 1/4 cups fresh ground pastry flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup whole grain crisp rice cereal
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips ( organic) or use carob chips

In a 1 quart or 1 liter jar, layer the ingredients in the order given. Lightly pack down the jar after each addition. Attach a card with the following instructions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease
a cookie sheet. Empty the entire contents of the jar into a medium bowl. Add 1 large egg and 1/4 cup of margarine melted; mix well. Form dough into 1 inch balls and bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven.
Makes about 2 dozen cookies

BROWNIE MIX IN A JAR
2 1/4 cups raw cane sugar
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup raw chopped pecans
1 1/4 cups fresh ground pastry flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

1- Mix together flour, baking powder, and salt.
Set aside.

2- Layer ingredients in a 1 quart "wide mouth" canning jar. Press each layer firmly in place before adding the flour mixture. NOTE: Be sure to wipe out the inside of the jar with a dry paper towel after adding the cocoa powder.

3- Instructions to attach to jar:

Brownie Mix in a Jar II
1. Empty jar of brownie mix into a large mixing bowl.
Use your hands to thoroughly blend mix.
2. Add 3/4 cup butter melted. Add 4 eggs, slightly beaten.
3. Mix until completely blended.
4. Spread batter into a sprayed 9 x 13 inch baking pan.
5. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 minutes.
Cool completely in pan. Cut into 2 inch squares.
Makes 2 dozen Brownies.

BEAN SOUP MIX:

Layer 7-8 different kinds of dried beans in a canning jar.
Add spices and dried veggies on the top of the jar and
label with other ingredients to add, cooking times, etc.
One year I even added the chicken broth to the top of
the jar and my recipients only had to add water to make.

CHOCOLATE COVERED RAISIN COOKIES IN A JAR

Ingredients:
3/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup chocolate covered raisins
1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
1 3/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions:
Mix together the flour, baking powder and baking soda. Layer ingredients in order given in a quart size wide mouth canning jar. Press each layer firmly in place making sure you really pack it down before you add the flour mixture, it will be a tight fit but it will work. Attach these instructions to the jar:

Chocolate Covered Raisin Cookies
Empty cookie mix into large mixing bowl. Use your hands to thoroughly blend mix. Add 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened to room temperature. DO NOT USE DIET MARGARINE. Add 1 egg, slightly beaten and 1 teaspoon vanilla Mix until completely blended. You will need to finish mixing with your hands. Shape into walnut sized balls. Place 2 inches apart on a parchment lined cookie sheet. DO NOT USE WAXED PAPER. Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) 13 to 15 minutes until tops are very lightly browned. Cool
5 minutes on baking sheet.Remove cookies to racks to finish cooling. Makes 2 1/2 dozen

I have a question....

Regarding the Bean Soup Jar. I once had one called the "Fruits of the Spirit Bean Soup Mix". The beans were layed in the jars and the card attached assigned one "Fruit of the Spirit" (patience, kindness, etc.) to the beans.

I would like to make some of these up myself to give as gifts, but I don't have the recipe on how to prepare them. I still have the card, but there are no cooking instructions on it.

I know it sounds like a stupid question, but what do you do with the dried beans to make them into soup? Just pour them in water and bring to a boil...soak them in water then put in boiling water...how do you cook them?

I can create my own card which list of fruits of the spirit/corresponding beans, but also want to include instructions on how to make the soup!

Thanks for any help with this.

These are great and easy to do. I do up quite a few at a time just to keep handy for different occasions, going to visit someone, people dropping by or just as a thank you. For a little extra touch, I do a small cross stitch design for the lids, add some gingham fabric and a small wooden spoon tied on with crafting twine. They make nice gifts or bazaar items and folks really love them.
