Talking

My fiance's mom makes these they are so easy and a great way to start your camping fires.

First you need egg cartons.
Then you will need candle wax. Left over candles or wax tarts that don't smell to much anymore. And sawdust.

You melt the candle wax cool slightly. Poor them in the egg cartons only about half full. Then add saw dust. After it is all cooled down you can cut them to individuals. They are really neat!

I use these year round campfires and in the fire place they are great. Anyway I wanted to add another idea for camp fires. For those of us that don't have a dishwasher. Roll up newspapers tie or rubberband shut and soak in your dirty dishwater. Let them dry for thoroughly (several days). The soap and grease from the water soaks into the paper and these "logs" make starting a camp fire even easier than with plan paper.

I make firestarters, and I use leftover wax also. I pour the melted wax in an old cupcake tin, add a small wick and after the wax has set up some I set a larger pinecone in it. As the wax hardens it will hold the pinecone. If the firestarters are hard to remove, I set them in the freezer for a few minutes. In the winter, I just set the pan outside on the deck, till they harden, then they pop right out. I sometimes add scented oils to the old wax. These look so nice in a wicker basket by our fireplace, and I get a lot of positive comments. I have also put them in baskets, wrapped in clear paper and used as gifts. They do work great. Just another idea. Hope you don't mind me sharing.

We use these for the Girl Scouts on campouts....Here's our recipe:

Use DRYER LINT, pack it very heavily in PAPER EGG CARTONS, pour paraffin wax over the lint into the crate. You can break off the pieces individually for the amount needed to start your fire.

Another fire starter. You can also dip the pinecones in the hot wax and roll them in saw dust. You can spices to the saw dust for a great scent when burned. Also there are chemicals you can add to make the fire colored. Salt, borax, magnesium others too I can't remember them all I have a list somewhere that tells what things burn what colors. Some people wrap a wick around the ends. They look beautiful in a basket fireside and make great christmas gifts.
