Bottle Cap Brooch
Instructions to make a unique brooch using a bottle cap, submitted by Christina Panczyk.
Materials Needed:
Pin back (1 1/2")--(make sure pin back is at least 1/4" smaller than bottle cap base.)
Acid-free adhesive glue that dries hard and clear
Acid-free hard paper (Multimedia Art Board)
Small paint brush
Decorative paper (acid-free)
Found bottle cap (metal juice bottle cap approx 1 3/4" in diameter/dented and rusty makes for a more interesting jewelry design!)
Variety of beads (glass, wooden, ceramic)
Gold acrylic paint
High gloss spray paint or gloss medium
Plastic clothes pins to use as clamps to hold glued pieces together
Instructions:
1. Take a clean metal bottle cap and coat it with acrylic gold paint. Cover only the parts of the brooch that will show in the finished design. Let the coated bottle cap dry.
2. Cut a piece of hard paper in a round shape the same size of the bottle cap. Set aside.
3. Cut a piece of decorative paper the same size as your round piece of hard paper--glue the two pieces together. (Makes an attractive back for the brooch design.)
4. Glue the gold painted bottle cap to the the hard round piece of art board (back to back--bottle cap underside adheres to the plain hard paper side of hard paper base). Use plastic clothes pins to hold the pieces together until glue dries.
5. Pour a small amount of glue in the center of the front of the brooch. (the front center of the metal bottle cap should be slightly concave.)
6. Sprinkle some beads into the pool of glue. (I use multicolored glass beads for my brooch design, but, you could use a variety of shapes and sizes)
7. Let the glued beads dry completely. It is important to use glue that dries hard and clear.)
8. After the brooch is completely dry, glue a pin back to the backside of brooch--about a third down from the top of the back of brooch. Let the glued pin back dry completely.
9. In a well-ventilated area, spray the front and back of brooch with a high gloss acrylic spray. Or, you can coat the front and back of brooch with gloss medium. Let the brooch dry.
10. Wear proudly! This brooch makes a great handcrafted gift.

Bottle Cap Earrings
you need :
cotton swab
rubbing alcohol
2 bottle caps from glass bottles
jump rings
2 earwires
craft drill
medium craft drill bit
craft pliers
These bottle cap earrings are a great recycled craft project and allows you to use interesting bottle caps and turn them into bottle cap crafts.
1. Using the cotton swab and rubbing alcohol, clean off all of the bottle caps.
2. Next, use your craft drill and drill a hole through a bottle cap. Start at the back of the bottle cap, under the ridge, and drill all the way through. You will have to use some pressure.
3. Slip a jump ring through the hole and close it with the craft pliers.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the other bottle cap.
5. Make a chain of jump rings as long as you like and attach it to the jump ring you put through the bottle cap. This will be the length of your earrings. Make sure to close all of your jump rings!
6. Attach an earwire to the last jump ring on each chain.
You're finished...

CRAFT MATERIALS:
Plastic beads
Pinto beans
Pennies
Colored sand
Bottles
Craft knife
Mini sponge ball or foam football
Acrylic paints
Tacky glue
Bottle caps
Buttons
Mini ball
Golf tees
Plastic forks
Colored craft wire or pipe cleaners
Pencil
Craft foam or felt
Packing tape or duct tape
Time needed: Under 1 Hour
1. Fill your bottles with plastic beads, pennies, pinto beans, or colored sand.
2. For the head, use a craft knife (adults only) to cut a hole in a small ball (a mini sponge ball or foam football) large enough to fit over the cap of the bottle body it goes with. Pull the out a small amount of the inner foam once you cut the opening.
3. Add the facial features with acrylic paints, or use tacky glue to attatch bottle-cap or button eyes. For a bug-eyed effect, try cutting a mini ball in half.
4. For hair, make holes in the ball and insert golf tees or plastic forks ( you may need to trim the fork handles to half their length first).
5. Add ears by partially inserting plastic milk jug caps into slits cut into the sides of the ball.
6. For arms, curl colored craft wire (or a pipe cleaner) around a pencil. Then use a strip of packing or duct tape to attatch the center of the curled wire to the back of the bottle.
7. Cut out hands from craft foam or felt, and glue or tape them to the ends of the wire.
