Here's how to fashion a Fourth of July T-shirt with a real patriotic flare.
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Plain T-shirt
Newspaper
Glittery fabric paint
Paper plate
Pipe cleaners
Time needed: Under 1 Hour
1. Start by placing a few sheets of newspaper inside a plain T-shirt.
2. Pour one or more colors of glittery fabric paint onto a paper plate.
3. Create a stamp (for each color paint) to print fireworks: arrange four pipe cleaners in a bunch, pinch the center, then bend all eight ends over your thumb and twist them together a few times, forming a loop. Spread apart the ends and bend up the tips, as shown.
4. To use the stamp, dip it into the paint so that it's evenly coated and press it firmly onto the fabric.
5. Once you've finished your design, allow the paint to dry thoroughly, and refer to the paint manufacturer's directions before laundering the shirt.

Turn a handful of noodles into super-simple stamps that add patriotic punch to your holiday tees. This project is easy enough for preschoolers --and fun for older kids-- making it an ideal craft for a weekend gathering of extended family.
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Pasta shapes
Corrugated cardboard
Tacky glue
Scissors
Waxed paper
T-shirt
1-inch flat foam brush
Washable fabric glue (we used Aleene's OK To Wash-It)
Washable glitter (we used Tulip Fashion Glitter)
Time needed: About 2 to 3 Hours
1. To make each firework burst, arrange a single type of pasta on the cardboard. Affix the pieces with tacky glue. Let the glue dry, then trim the excess cardboard.
2. Insert a sheet of waxed paper into the shirt to prevent bleed-through. Using the foam brush, generously coat the surface of the pasta with the fabric glue, then press the stamp firmly onto the shirt.
3. Sprinkle glitter over the stamped area, then shake off the excess (doing this over a piece of creased paper makes it easy to funnel the loose glitter back into the bottle).
4. Repeat the process to make more bursts. Let the shirt dry completely, then give it a final shake. Follow the package directions for setting and curing the glue.
Whether you're attending a small family gathering or lining up with the whole town to catch the local parade, these jazzy tees will let you show your patriotism in style.
CRAFT MATERIALS:
White T-shirts
Newspaper
Corrugated cardboard stars
Red or blue fabric paint
Cardboard squares
Time needed: About 2 to 3 Hours
1. To make one, first slip sheets of newspaper inside a plain white shirt so that when you print on the fabric, the paint won't bleed through to the other side.
2. Next, cut out several corrugated cardboard stars. Peel away the top layer of each star to expose the ribbed layer. Coat the corrugation with red or blue fabric paint and then firmly and evenly press the painted surface against the shirt. Carefully lift away the star.
3. When you've finished stamping your design, let the paint dry completely and then set it according to the manufacturer's directions.
4. Tip: To make the painting process less messy for kids, glue a cardboard square onto the back of each star for a handle.
To make these bold designs, use a stencil made from freezer paper -- it's waxed on one side and adheres to fabric when ironed. Then hold an outdoor paint-splattering session, peel away the stencil, and behold your stellar work.
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Freezer paper
White cotton T-shirt
Pencil
Craft knife
Iron
Cardboard
Red, blue, and metallic silver fabric paint
Paintbrushes
Time needed: Afternoon or Evening
1. On a protected surface, lay out a sheet of freezer paper large enough to completely cover the shirt's front. Draw or trace your star design onto the paper, then cut along the lines with a craft knife (a parent's job).
2. Lay the paper over the shirt (waxy side down), positioning the holes as desired. Using your iron's cotton setting, press the paper onto the shirt (a parent's job).
3. Slip a piece of cardboard inside the shirt. Lay it on a protected surface. Fill in the stencil with a background color. When the paint is dry, splatter and drip the other colors over it to create streaks and splashes. Leave it flat to dry overnight, then peel away the stencil.
4. To make the shirt colorfast, follow the directions on the paint package.
