I cut them about as wide as my thumb. Basically the thinner the cut, the easier it is to work with.

This looks absolutely amazing! If you market these, you might be able to start a whole new trend, kinda like the purses made from seat belts a few years back. I'm not very good at crocheting - my ex MIL taught me the basics and I've tried teaching myself more since then, I just don't practice enough I guess (or maybe I'm just so afraid of failing that I don't try enough?). As mom i am said her grandmother did, I think this would make an amazing rug for in the kitchen... I don't see very much staining plastic if it was to spill!
