Bangle Bracelet Craft
I am thinking Mother's Day or Teacher's Gifts for my scouts to make ...
From totally glamorous to simple and chic, your ensemble is a fun way to express your personality, your interests, even your current mood. With this simple craft, you and your friends can take any outfit to new heights with unique, handcrafted bangle bracelets. Find inspiration in decorative papers, ribbons, fabrics, even yarn to take your dated jewelry from plain to pretty in a few simple steps. So get crafting and prepare to make a seriously stylish statement.
Project 1: All Wrapped Up
Be it yarn, fabric, ribbon or even scraps of decorative trim, encasing your bracelets in a striking material is a quick and simple way to dress up your bangles. Wrapping them in soft materials also offers a gentler feel against your skin and prevents the bracelets from clanking together and scratching.
Step 1: Gather Materials: Choose from a large assortment of bangle shapes and sizes by asking your friends to bring along old bracelets that they would like to repurpose. In addition, you can scope out thrift stores, craft centers and discount accessory stores for inexpensive options. For a complete list of project materials, download our easy-to-follow
Step 2: Get Gluing: Along the inside of your bangle, draw a thin line of craft glue and adhere the loose end of your wrapping material in place. Let dry.
Step 3: Wrap It Up: Once dry, begin tightly wrapping your material around the bangle. If using fabric, slightly overlap the pieces each time you wrap around the bracelet. Continue all the way around the bracelet until fully covered, then cut the material and fasten the loose end in place with a small dab of glue. Let dry completely before wearing.
Tip: To add delicate texture and blended color to your bangles, try twisting, knotting or braiding together several pieces of material in various hues, patterns and designs.
Project 2: Decorative Decoupage
With a simple decoupage technique and a creative approach, you can turn your favorite scraps of decorative paper into wearable art.
Step 1: Sort Through Scraps: Decoupage is the perfect project for finally making use of decorative papers you’ve stowed away. Choose from scraps of wallpaper, maps, greeting cards, newsprint, magazines, calendars, photographs and more to craft a one-of-a-kind bangle you’ll wear with pride.
Step 2: Measure Twice, Cut Once: With your ruler, measure the width of your bangle, then cut your paper into pieces slightly longer than double the width of your bracelet. Cut enough paper pieces to completely cover your bangle.
Tip: In lieu of cutting your paper pieces to a clean edge, try gently tearing your sheets into scraps to achieve a handcrafted, vintage effect.
Step 3: Strip by Strip: Paint the backside of your first paper scrap with the decoupage medium, then wrap it tightly around the bangle, smoothing away any air bubbles with your fingertips. Continue applying the paper strips, always overlapping the piece you previously laid.
Step 4: Simple Details: Once your bracelet is entirely covered, measure and cut a paper strip to cover the paper joints along the interior of the bracelet. The paper strip should be approximately as wide as the bangle and long enough to completely circle the inside. Apply a thin line of glue along the interior of the bracelet, then adhere the paper strip in place.
Tip: Turn your bangles into eye candy by choosing a bold print or whimsical shock of color for the interior paper. You can even write a special quotation or message on the strip you adhere to the inside.
Step 5: Finishing Touch: Brush the entire piece with a final thin coat of the decoupage medium. Let dry for several hours before wearing.
A Gorgeous Gift
With virtually endless options for decorating, these customized bangle bracelets make a lovely gift for any friend or relative. As you craft, keep your loved one’s sense of style in mind—the colors, textures and silhouettes she wears regularly will inspire you as you create her accessory. For the understated woman always in black, try spicing up her neutral palette with a bold animal print. Or for your friend who’s always spotted in the same patterned blouse, combine several pieces of yarn and craft a bangle that echoes its colors.
Too many people you’d like to craft for? Get your girlfriends together for this craft and host a fun-filled gift exchange at the end of the project. Arrange the finished bangles along your dining room table and let each guest choose a bracelet to take home. With such unique creations, everyone is sure to leave your party wearing a custom piece that they adore.
Clean-Up:
When trimming small scraps of fabric, paper and string, it’s easy to end up with a messy floor. For quick clean-up, use Swiffer® SweeperVac. It gets it all—big and small—by trapping and locking small particles with a Dry Cloth, then lifting larger pieces with a powerful vacuum.
Working with craft glue can leave scuffs and smudges on your favorite surfaces. With Mr. Clean® Wipes, you can wipe away and disinfect even the toughest messes with ease.

Knotted Anklet
This knotted anklet is such a cinch to make, it won't be long before your child is mass-producing colorful thread jewelry for all his friends. CRAFT MATERIALS:
Scissors
Embroidery thread (2 or more colors)
1 button
Masking tape
Time needed: Under 1 Hour
1. Cut eight to ten 3-foot lengths of embroidery thread and arrange them in a bunch so that the ends match up.
2. At one end of the bunch, tie a loop that's slightly bigger than the button and tape it to a stationary surface. Separate one thread from the rest.
3. Wrap it around the bunch and then up over itself, as shown above. Pull it taut.
4. Continue wrapping and knotting the same strand around the bunch until you wish to change colors.
5. Simply separate a new thread from the group and blend the last one back in. Change colors as often as you like.
6. When you're near the end, tie a tight overhand knot.
7. Thread the loose ends through the button holes, tie them in a knot, and trim off any excess.

Use the outer cord to tie another square knot snugly up under the power bead. Continue with beads and knots until you have enough to fit around your ankle.
Finish with an overhand knot. Trim cord ends leaving a few inches to tie around your ankle.

Woven Bracelet
You can create a terrific design for a woven bracelet by simply wrapping and weaving lanyard laces. After you've finished making your bracelet, you can bend it to fit your wrist.
Wrap and bend lanyard laces to showcase designs on your woven bracelets.
What You'll Need:
3 lanyard laces: 4 yards red, 1-2/3 yards yellow, 40 inches black
Aluminum bracelet blank, 1 inch wide
Metal fingernail file
Ruler
Scissors
Masking tape
Paper clip
Low-temperature glue gun and glue (adult help needed)
How to Make a Woven Bracelet:
Step 1: Smooth the edges and corners of the bracelet blank with the fingernail file.
Step 2: Cut six 10-inch pieces of yellow lace. Cut four 10-inch pieces of black lace. Position laces side by side on a piece of tape as follows: two yellow, two black, two yellow, two black, two yellow.
Step 3: Center the bracelet blank on top of the laces. Fold one end of laces over to the back of the bracelet blank. Tape the lace ends to the back of the bracelet blank.
Step 4: Insert one end of the red lace under the yellow and black laces on the back of the bracelet blank. Glue the end to hold.
Step 5: Tightly wrap the red lace around the bracelet blank seven times, making sure the lanyard touches the one beside it, covering the yellow and black laces on front and back. Keep the laces flat.
Step 6: Lift the outside yellow laces. Wrap the red lace once. Keep the red lace wrapped as close to the last one as possible.
Step 7: Keeping the outside yellow laces up, lift the next yellow laces. Wrap the red lace once. Pull all laces tight.
Step 8: Lay the yellow laces back down. Lift the outside black laces, and wrap the red lace once.
Step 9: Keeping the outside black laces up, lift the next black laces. Wrap the red lace once.
Step 10: Lay the black laces back down. Lift the two center yellow laces, and wrap the red lace twice.
Step 11: Lay the yellow laces back down. Lift all the black laces, and wrap the red lace once.
Step 12: Lay the inside black laces back down, and wrap the red lace once.
Step 13: Lay the black laces back down. Lift the two outside yellow laces on both sides, and wrap the red lace once.
Step 14: Lay the inside yellow laces on each side back down, and wrap the red lace once.
Step 15: Lay the outside yellow laces back down. Wrap the red lace four times. Pull all laces tight.
Step 16: Repeat steps 6 through 15 three more times, omitting step 15 the last time. Pull the yellow and black laces tight, and keep the red lace as close to the lace beside it as possible.
Step 17: After the last repeat of the design, fold the yellow and black laces over to the back of the bracelet blank. Trim the laces to one inch and tape down. Wrap the red lace around the bracelet blank seven times following the same wrapping technique as in step 5.
Step 18: Unbend one end of the paper clip. With the straightened end, slightly loosen the yellow and black laces at the end of the bracelet blank back. Trim the red lace end at an angle. Insert the end under the yellow and black laces.
Step 19: Remove the paper clip, and pull the red lace tight. Glue the lace end to hold. Trim the end.
Now that you've mastered weaving, keep reading to learn how to make another handmade bracelet.

How to Make a Memory Wire Bracelet
The instructions below are for making a simple memory-wire bracelet.
http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Memory-Wire-Bracelet
Things You'll Need
round nose pliers
memory wire for bracelets
beads
memory wire cutters
Take the memory wire and measure around your wrist twice if an adult and three times if a child.
Cut the memory wire with pliers made for memory wire. Other cutters may be damaged if used on memory wire.
Loop one end of the memory wire with pliers. Place the wire in between the round nose pliers and push the wire around with your finger creating a small thin oval. Be sure to fully crimp the end of the wire to avoid sharp edges that may cause discomfort when worn. String beads on to the memory wire.
Beginners may choose to use beads of similar colors, but don't hesitate to try a variety of shapes, colors and sizes for an eclectic look!
Generally start with a metal bead and enlarge the size of bead used thereafter to give a tapering look to the ends of each side. Aesthetically it has been recommended to clump same type beads in odd numbers (3,5,7) before adding an alternate bead, metal component (small metal bead, metal spacer *usually irregular thin component (like a flat pancake) made to cause a definite space between beads bringing attention and focus to that point).
For example: 6 Med blue round beads 6mm, two 6mm crystal bicone beads (pointed on each end), 1 6mm Square crystal bead 2 spacers and 3 Round 5mm silver balls would be arranged in the following order;1 5mm metal ball followed by 3 6mm blue beads then add an additional 5mm metal ball followed by one of the 6mm bicones, spacer, square crystal, spacer, bicone, metal ball and 3 more additional 6 mm blue beads, and repeat until desired length has been met, ending the piece again with the smaller metal ball.
-oOOOo0@[ ]@0oOOOoOOOo0@[ ]@0oOOOoOOOo-
Curl the other end of the memory wire using the pliers, again being sure to leave a smooth end. Any sharp ponts can be dulled with an emery board.
Tips
Choose your beads in advance and have them arranged in the pattern you desire. Setting them on a towel or arranging in a slight long grooved surface makes it easier to arrange and determine beforehand. This will help you determine if you like the look you are creating prior to stringing the entire thing and realizing you hate it. Your pattern may be symmetrical - or not!
Choose from a wide variety of materials such as glass, wood, stone, or precious metal. You may wish to "frame" your larger beads with smaller beads such as seed beads or rondelles.
Memory wire bracelets are especially popular when strung with dangle beads or charms.

How to Make the Chinese Staircase Bracelet
Want to make a gift for your friends? Give them a friendship bracelet and tell them you made it! They'll be very thankful.
Things You'll Need
3 colors or more embroidery floss (about 1 - 1 1/2 arm lengths long)
Tape or clip
Patience and Kindness
Choose your thread. You can use embroidery floss, or plain yarn.
Cut your thread It is usually better to have cut too much, than to not have enough.
Wrap the thread about 4-5 times around your wrist. That much seems to do the job pretty well.
Knot three strings together at one side, so they stay together.
Tape the knotted end onto the edge of a table or to a chair.Tape the knotted side to a table, or stable surface to work on. Another way to do it is to clip it using a clipboard. You can also use a safety pin and pin it to a small pillow, or to the knee of your jeans; or make a loop with the string and put it around your toe. This is convenient especially if you are traveling.
Hold two strings in one hand and the other string in the other hand. Then make a '4' shape with the one string over the two strings..
Take the tail, or end, of the '4' by putting your hand in the wide space of the '4' and pull the tail.
Repeat this 10 to 15 times, then switch colors. You don't HAVE to switch, but if you decide not to, make sure the one color you want to use is longer than the others.
time to switch colors!
Repeat the colors again, or until the bracelet can fit around your wrist loosely, so you can take it off and put on.
Knot the open side, and tie the bracelet together.
Tips
Choose colors of string that go well together (e.g. red, white and blue).
You can use more than three strings.
As you stitch down the bracelet make sure that the pattern is curving nicely and looks like a spiral staircase. You may have to untwist the bracelet between stitches. As you become more experienced your bracelets will look more uniform.
Choose contrasting colors
You can also use a safety pin to pin the string to towels, carpets, pillows, or the knee of your jeans to hold the threads.
Warnings
Sometimes you may get bad knots in the string. Stop what you're doing and carefully pick out the knot. Some people use a small gadget called a "seam ripper" (available at any drugstore, fabric store, or craft store that sells sewing notions). Also, this craft may be hard for small hands.
Remember to tighten each knot, but not too tightly. You'll quickly get the hang of the right tightness as you look at the results of your finished work.
Don't use tape on expensive wood

Oh I love this! I've got a ton of old bangles that were hand me downs from my Mom when I went through my junk jewelry stage that I think my niece and cousin would have a ball redoing. Thanks!
